The gems will change these skills, giving them new attributes, effects, or change how they deal damage. Following the large popularity of alliances since they announced it, Bossa Studios, developers of Worlds Adrift, have decided to open a new hub allowing players to create or join alliances.

"Alliances are giving you the opportunity to really set up what you want to do as a group, whether that’s becoming a pirate band or setting up a trade network," Williams tells watchers in the studio’s new video. "You could also be, for example, whalers, maybe going around hunting all the rare species in the world. You also also just be good samaritans — it’s a rough world out there, so you could [be] dropping supplies off to stranded people or maybe hitching people a ride to nearby islands. You can really set up what you want and what you want your role to be."

On the occasion, they are also holding a competition for registered members that are in an alliance, with the following prizes being offered random draws:
  • 1x Alienware Alpha
  • 1x Razr Chroma keyboard
  • 10x Steam keys for the final game
  • 5x Player names included on an in item’s description in the final game

Blizzard, Another Mobile Games Gaint May Release a RTS Game

$

Blizzard
is celebrating its 25th anniversary this week, having released quite a few games in that time but the biggest wins for them have been Warcraft (including World of Warcraft), Starcraft, Diablo, and Hearthstone.

Some interesting details came out about the company's future plans from an interview with three executives from Blizzard. President and co-founder Michael Morhaime, senior vice president and co-founder Frank Pearce, and senior vice president Chris Metzen talked about some gifted idea about mobile games.

One interesting point that came out of it is that Blizzard isn't considering Virtual Reality as one of the next big steps for the company to take. This doesn't mean that down the road Blizzard won't jump into Virtual Reality, as all three executives are watching that platform's growth, but as it stands right now, Blizzard isn't considering it.

Everybody’s talking about VR and wearing funny helmets. Culturally, we’re interested, and we’re watching. How rad would it be to run around in World of Warcraft and see it 1-to-1? That does appear to be the next horizon. But we’re kind of watching. It’s possible that other companies will take more tentative steps and plant their flags. I don’t think we’re quite ready to conquer all that yet. - Senior Vice President Chris Metzen

The platform all three find more exciting right now happens to be mobile. As with any plans Blizzard has, outside of saying that mobile is an exciting platform and one the company is looking at for future plans heavily, no details were revealed about what those development plans actually include. The only real details mentioned was that the real-time strategy genre, something Blizzard has a lot of experience in, would definitely be something they consider for mobile.

Two other items Blizzard is looking at for mobile happen to be procedurally created content and user-created content. The latter is something that would technically be a first for the company. Both are meant to make it so any mobile released in the future would have deeper gameplay and an ongoing stream of content for it so that they don't get old.

Whatever the case may be, Blizzard will be taking a little while for their next mobile release. They know there is plenty of potential in mobile still, but figuring out which way to go with it will need to take some time. What type of game do you think Blizzard should release onto mobile next? An open-world MMORPG such as World of Warcraft, an RTS game like Starcraft, something like Diablo, or something completely different? Comment below.

Studio Wildcard, the team that never sleeps, delivers today its second jam-packed Xbox One update for the definitive online dinosaur experience,

ARK: Survival Evolved. Headlined by three new creatures and peppered with fun items like Beer Barrels and Electric Prods, ARK offers gamers the highly anticipated, exclusive Xbox One split-screen multiplayer functionality. Now Survivors can sit side-by-side on a couch or jump online with their fellow survivor, craft a few in-game beers, and then rampage into the fields to fight the scaley hordes!

Check out the ARK Dung Beetle & Dimetrodon Spotlight:

Watch the ARK Gallimimus Spotlight video:

Exclusive to the Xbox for extended period of time, the split-screen multiplayer functionality is available for both local offline play and Non-Dedicated online play as well.

New dinosaurs and creature featured in this update:
  • Gallimimus (with Three-Seater Passenger Saddle): While the Gallimimus in real life might have been a large, chicken-like omnivore belonging to the clade Ornithomimosauria (similar to today’s ostrich family and closely related to raptors and modern birds), in ARK: Survival Evolved it’s an herbivore with no natural means to defend itself except for running away. Luckily for the Gallimimus, it may very well be the fastest dinosaur on ARK, and is capable of ferrying up to three Survivors in a specially-designed Saddle!
  • Dimetrodon: Known as everyone’s favorite adaptable carnivore, the Dimetrodon offers players shade during excessive heat and shelter from extreme cold by way of its massive insulating sail running down its back. It is reasonably friendly to Survivors and its favorite place to roam is the swamplands plentiful with small prey.
  • Dung Beetle: The Dung Beetle is a wondrous organic biofactory that eats excrement and other useless waste and then metabolizes it to produce burnable oil that can power generators and fertilize crops. It is the perfect pet for cleaning up around the tribe’s dirty living quarters!

Today’s Xbox One version update also includes a battery of items and optimizations that bring content parity with the PC version through v234, including:
  • New Armor: SWAT-style Assault Armor tier
  • New Weapon: Electric Prod stunner weapon capable of rendering even the strongest survivor unconscious
  • New Structures: Greenhouse/Glass structure tileset to aid survivors in growing plants
  • Deep-Sea Loot Crates: Just what it sounds like. Cool stuff underwater.
  • Beer Barrel: These craftable Beer kegs can make tasty brews, with various status enhancing effects, however the subsequent ‘hangover’ effects are not so pleasant!
  • Loads of bug fixes, serious performance update (~15%), fixed memory leak
  • Non-dedicated servers now support up to Eight survivors and 33% larger tether distance

Japan-based Square Enix unveiled the service schedule for its Mecha Shooter Figureheads Online. The open beta for this squad-based strategic shooter will begin in the early March. Although there are still half a month, players could sign up and join in the upcoming Pre-Open Beta on February 25th to work together with teammates in this online battle.

Set in a future where meteorites make the surface of the earth uninhabitable and force mankind to live underground, unmanned robots are developed to work outside the subterranean shelters. In Figureheads Online, there are three types of weight classes for the mecha units. They are light, medium, and heavy classes, and each one comes with two different types of units.

Lightweight classes have Snipers that use sniper rifles and Engineers with a radar weapon. Middleweight classes have the Assault unit that comes with a rocket launcher weapon and the Support unit that has a repair kit. Heavyweight units have the Strikers with cannons and Heavy Assault class that comes with a Gatling Gun.

Figureheads Online

As far as the online 5v5 team battles go, each player will have their own three Figureheads, so with the players included, there will be a total of 20 units per side. Players and their Figureheads will all play a role in the strategic shootouts, with supporters in the back, and attackers in the frontline. You win by taking over the other team's outpost by shooting it down, but you'll also need to be careful, as the opponents will be doing the same, meaning you'll need to defend your own, too.

Retro Rayman Game Making Its Way to Mobile Devices Next Week

The official Rayman Twitter account posted a very interesting tweet that talks about a retro Rayman game making the journey to mobile devices next week. This is pretty awesome news as the original Rayman was a great platformer.

The problem, however, is that this game was pretty hardcore and was a tough one to beat using hardware controls. Using touch screen controls will be twice the challenge. This is, of course, if there isn't controller support. There's ways around that problem as well.

Unfortunately we don't know which version of the original Rayman this mobile one will be based on. Regardless, it will be great to actually have a real Rayman game to play. It will be launching onto mobile devices next week, which more than likely means February 18th, 2016 as most major releases happen on Thursdays. Also because it says so in the image in the tweet. We will post an update once it becomes available.
