Inspired by games like Landmark and No Man’s Sky, Traverse is a voxel-based sandbox MMORPG that allows every player to own at least one planet. You can shape, terrainform, build, and develop your home planet from scratch and then invite friends to visit and explore it. There are many tools to let you choose what theme you like to build your planet. Whether it will be sci-fi, western, fantasy, or contemporary -- it is completely up to you.
Planet is initially procedurally / randomly generated. Players can alter parameters that are used, at this point. A number of noise functions is available, such as Perlin and Voronoi.
After generating the planet, players can paint additional noise functions, to create valleys, or mountain ranges. Once again, height, elevation, and size of these features are just some of the parameters that can be altered, as you paint.
The game is more than building, and it has mobs and quests. Your planet’s environment — the altitude and slope of your terrain, proximity to ocean or lakes — will affect how mobs spawn. By fighting mobs you can level up. You can also create quests and assign them to NPCs.
Traverse is scheduled to release in 2016. You can sign up at the forum to follow the game’s development and get notified when the alpha starts.
