Hyper Universe: Nexon's New Side-scrolling MOBA Debuts Two New Game Trailers

Hyper Universe, debuted at G-star 2014, is a new side-scrolling MOBA developed by CWAVESoft and published by NEXON. The 1st closed beta test is scheduled to start from September 9th to 13th in South Korea. With the advent of the beta test, two new game trailers have been released, featuring different characters and their abilities, some of the maps, modes, creeps battle players and more.



Hyper Universe features 24 "Hypers" with various super powers and players can expect to see anyone from Bruce Lee to the Monkey King. There are 6 types of Hypers, including Striker, Technician, Stalker, Bruiser, Tanker and Supporter, available to choose.

WildStar Free-to-Play Launch Date Sets on September 29

WildStar Free-to-Play

You can play Carbine Studios’ WildStar for free starting September 29, NCsoft has announced. The game will be called WildSta: Reloaded by the time it relaunches. There will be a beta coming in the next couple of weeks for selected players to test the Store feature. If you want to be one of the testers, sign up at the official site.
 

 
The change of business model comes with the biggest game update to date which includes a large amount of improvements and tweaks. If you don’t want to spend a cent, you don’t have to because all gameplay content is free to access. Being a subscriber grants you benefits on player service and cosmetic items. Albion Online Closed Beta Coming in November

Although there wasn't any official announcements, besides the post detailing the “road to closed beta”, some vigilant fans spotted a small change in the founder’s packs description that states “Closed Beta Access (starts in Nov 2015)”.

Although that’s great news for us, we still need to wait for the official announcement to see how things are going to roll out, will there be any giveaways, are they going to select some accounts from their subscriber list, or only the owners of a founder pack will be able to join it. I doubt there will be no other way to get in as the 2nd level of Beta access mentions something about getting in before the non-founder players.



At the moment there are three Albion Online founder packs, each with their own level of closed beta access:
  • Level 1 Closed Beta Access – be the very first to enter Albion Online’s closed beta testing, guaranteed priority before everyone else;
  • Level 2 Closed Beta Access – get access to closed beta testing before players with a Veteran Pack, and all other non-founder players;
  • Closed Beta Access – get access to closed beta testing.

Bless KR – What We Know So Far

In the past few weeks we got some new bits of info regarding the upcoming Bless KR Final Closed Beta Test that will take place from September 17 until September 25, 2015, but we now have more details from the Russian interview made by Goha.ru.

So here’s a quick recap of what we know so far:

General Info:

The renown German composer Hans Zimmer helped creating the soundtrack for Bless;



A new continent and a bunch of new dungeons will be added (the screens below are from the end game dungeons, and there will be a hidden one as well, available at level 45);





2 new classes will be added: The Assassin and The Mage. With the addition of these two classes, The Mystic will become a healer and support class;




Level Cap will be increased to 45 for this closed beta phase;

A new UI system with a brand new Quest Helper and a Mini-Map;




Character creation process has been change. Taking as a starting point the makeup video posted in 2014 by ThisIsGame, some features were removed and new ones were added. After this beta there should be enough feedback to decide on the final version.

Game Mechanics:

Players will be able to turn auto-target on for an easier leveling experience, or turn it off for some action combat;



Players will choose the way their character will move, including the old school “click to move” option, as well as set up the action keys;




Macros will be introduced that will let players create different combo schemes using their skills (to avoid pressing the same skill rotation over and over again);

Several progression curve changes: leveling is now faster than before, there are less quests, but they are better chained together, and the normal mobs were made easier, while the elites became more powerfull;

A new set of end game quests are under development. These “Royal Quests” are design for high level chars and will vary from easy quests like helping a low level faction member, to some very challenging mission that you’ll have to compete behind the enemy lines. Since there won’t be any faction specific Royal Quests (every faction will have the same quests), developers are hoping to create massive PvPs. Unfortunately we won’t get to see these in the next CBT so we will have to wait a little bit longer for more details;



Gathering and crafting will also be available in the next beta phase. What we know for the moment is that the higher your gathering skill will be the higher quality resources you will obtain. Experience will be awarded for the gathering process. Players will be able to craft weapons, armors, potion, trinkets and food (through cooking). An enchanting system will also be added.

Mounts and Pets:

Fans of pet/mounts collection will be happy to know that an extended system of taiming will be added. In Bless CBT 3, players will be able to tame more than 800 different creatures (almost every creature in game can be tamed);



Depending on the type of mob they'll tame, they will get a pet, a mount or an "artist" (here the translation goes off a little, but I think it will be some kind of companion). Developers gaved the following example: if you tame a hippopotamus you will obtain a mount, if you go for a rabbit you'll get a pet, and if you go for a troll, you'll gain this "artist" that can perform missions for you.

Guilds, RvR and PvP:

There will be an entire political system where guilds will fight for territory control. Each guild will collect “leverage” (this will come from players that perform different task or something along these lines) and this can be used to gain control over territories without a fight. The game will regularly held a blind action called “Governing Contract”, where each guild sets how much of “leverage” they want to pay for that specific land. At the end, the highest bidder gains control over that territory. Of course this is just one of the ways of claiming a piece of land (below there is an older video that talks about RxR).



Controlling a territory gives “Realm Points” that are awarded from different activities that other players perform on that area. Guild members will also be able to obtain (probably by spending those points) rare equipment and mounts. These points can also be invested in your territory to build different buildings like watchtowers that will protect those hunting inside your land. This will be a win-win situation, your guild gets the realm points and the normal players get to grind without fearing the opposite faction raids;



Besides getting realm points, guilds that control a territory will be able to take part in the Capital Siege, as attackers or defenders (rulers of the capital will be defenders at the next siege). Before the start of the siege no one will know what side a guild took, so strong alliances will be formed, betrayals will happen and other things that will shape the history of a server.




There were some mentions about governors, magistrates and manors or estates, but we don’t have any solid info so we will avoid speculating on this topic for now.



Overall the Realm vs. Realm system is being improved and some areas will be reshaped to allow eternal PvP inside disputed areas, and safe farm for low level players inside the peaceful zones.

Blade & Soul Mobile: First Impression

Blade & Soul Mobile is a card-based mobile game developed by NCSOFT; the chinese version of the game is distributed by Tencent. The CBT is held from 18th Aug to 7th Sept 2015 and all data will be wiped after that. CBT keys are given to Blade & Soul Online CN (MMORPG) players, along with handsome rewards, including in-game items and gift pack for the upcoming OBT (only if you have reached level 45 on the mobile games before the CBT ends).
 
Initially, I have only started playing Blade and Soul mobile because of the event which offers in-game items for the PC version of BNS. To be honest, I am not a real fan of mobile games. Furthermore, there are various bugs and compatibility with BNS Mobile, for example, the game refused to run on my ASUS Zenfone 5 and i had to switch to Samsung Galaxy Note to play the game. It is currently only available for Android phone as well. However, BnS mobile exceeds my expection! 



Story

Surprisingly, the game turns out to be really good and lives up to the reputation of Blade & Soul online. It is after all made by the same developer who have produced BnS. The story of the game occurs before the event in the original BnS. You will see many familiar characters which you have encoutered in BnS. You play as a lad who have come across a ring, which harbors a ring spirit.
 
Upon wearing the ring, you somehow become delusional and start seeing man as young girls. This creates various funny scenarios during the early part of your adventure. More importantly, it gives the developer a good reason to turn some familiar male characters in BNS into the cute or girly characters. However, as the story unfolds, it turns out that the ring possesses some dark energy and might turn you into a demon.  You will journey across the world of BNS to uncover the mystery revolving this magic ring.

BNs mobile complements the original game by expanding the character developments of main/side characters in the original story. In fact, the main character of the original BNS will appear in the BNS mobile as well. If you have played the original BnS, this game will definitely appeal to you.
 
 
 
Gameplay

The game play of BNS mobile is based on card game with simple rules. You can choose up to 5 cards; place 3 of them at the front row and 2 of them at the back. In order to win, kill (deplete HP) all your opponent's card before they do.

The slots are numbered 1 to 5 and that is the order of your cards attack and being attacked. For example, slot 1 which is at the middle, will be the 1st to attack and it will be the one who sustain all the damage from the Normal attack of your opponent. 1,2,3 are in the front row while 4,5 are in the back row. 
 

Each cards has up to 4 skills, which can be either active, passive and combo skills. The 1st skills for all cards are active skills, which can be triggered by touching the skill icon once your MP is filled up. Some skills are combo skills, which can only be triggered when a special condition has been satisfied, for example, when your opponent is stun or when you have blocked an attack. Combo skills does not require MP. 
 
Mushin Card, with 4 skills

For this CBT, there are up to 65 cards in the game, each representing a character. All cards belong to one of the 7 classes: destroyer, blade master, kungfu master, assassin, summoner, force master and gunner.  Despite being the same class, no two cards have similar skill effect.

For example, both Mushin  and Yukson are kungfu master. Mushin's active skill silences all enemies on the same row while Yukson's inflicts stun effect. However, the 2nd combo skills for both Mushin and Yukson shares the same characteristics: deal damage to stun target and move to the front row. All Kungfu master have high evasion and magic defence, perfect for tanking magical attack.
 

I will not elaborate the details of each class, but briefly, destroyer are the typical tanker with high HP, physical & magical defence. Blade master has high physical defence and block rate. Assassin has high physical attack and their skills attack the target directly in front of them (instead of aiming according the usual order of attack). Force master is good at dealing AOE magical damage while Gunner skills can hit the back row cards of your opponent. Summoner is the dedicated healing class, although there are a few special skills of other classes which can heal too. 

Typically, you are only allowed to select up to 5 cards for battle. Careful card selection and timely skill casting are critical to victory. Each card can be equipped with a weapon, necklace and earring, along with 3 gems. Each equipment can be leveled up and imbued with additional stats. Players can freely customize the gear and gems to build their unique cards. The gears and gems can be removed and re-equipped to other cards if needed.

PVE & PVP Contents

The main PVE contents are in the form of node exploration system. Proceeding with the story and reaching the required level allow you to unlock higher level nodes. Enemies awaits at each node, and typically there are 2 to 3 rounds of battle in 1 node.
 

Besides the node exploration system, there are other forms of PVE contents, such as the familiar Mushin Tower (10 floors), World Boss (only spawns at certain time), roulette battle (need to satisfy the specified condition to win the reward) etc.

There is also a ladder-ranking system for PVP. You will need to set a "defensive" party in the PVP system. This party will be matched randomly when other players requested for PVP. You don't have to do anything during the ladder PVP. Your party will automatically fight with the opponent and depending on the outcome, your ranking will increase or decrease. Your ranking determines the PVP reward given out daily at 22:00.

The real-time PVP tournament between active online players are conducted from 20:30 to 21:50 daily. This is the real PVP whereby, both players are actively controlling the skill casting. The reward for PVP tournament will be given out weekly.
 
Daily Restriction

There are many daily restrictions on the PVE and PVP contents of BNS mobile. You are allocated a specific amount of Vigor per day. Vigor is required to perform various PVE activity, including the node exploration and farming of cards/items from the nodes. This imposes a limit on the amount of stuffs you can gain per day and slows the card building process. As you have more cards in late game, you will have difficulties in upgrading them due to such restriction. The ladder PVP and PVP tournament are each restricted to 5 times per day as well.

Conclusion

Blade & Soul mobile is a solid game which lives up to the reputation of the original game. I am really looking forward for the OBT release.

Gaming Paradise 2015
Dota 2 tournament, which will be held in Portorož from September 10th to 12th, has announced the schedule and brackets for the main tournament.


The format of the tournament will be Double Elimination bracket with all games being BO3, except Grand Finals(BO5) and first round of the Losers bracket(BO1). First of the 14 matches which will be played throughout this tournament will begin at 10AM with Virtus.Pro-4C&L clash.

Battleborn: Closed Beta Application Is Now Live

The official website of Battleborn has started accepting applications for the closed beta testing. Bear in mind that this game is a creation of the same folks who gave the world a series of projects Borderlands.



By the way, this new product will include a right elements of shooter and MOBA. Previously, developers have said that this miracle will play no earlier than February 9, 2016. After starting players will try to resolve in the battles of 25 characters, to understand the system of gaining experience and leveling abilities of heroes and explore the 3 modes of multiplayer battles.

EvilBane (Raven): Korean Top Notch Mobile Action RPG To Launch in NA This Year

EvilBane, also known as Raven, developed by Korean Netmarble, will be launching in North America later in 2015, NetMarble US announced today. An English website has been revealed where players can have a first look at the bakground story, the game features and the 3 characters. EvilBane will be released on both iOS and Andriod platform. Minion positioning is often overlooked, especially by newer players. It offers a small advantage without any cost (besides the time that it takes to think where you should put your minions). If you place your minions correctly you can minimise the effect of some opponent’s cards and maximise the effectiveness of your cards . In this guide I will look at how you should place your minions to play around enemy’s cards and how to prepare your board for cards like Dire Wolf Alpha when you draw them. I will only cover common and rare cards because you will encounter epic and legendary cards too rarely to consider playing around them. Also even though this guide is made for arena most of the things I wrote also apply to constructed play.

Opponent's cards that have an effect based on your board

Play around these when you don’t have important minions that affect your board in your hand or on the board. 
  • Cone of Cold
  • Betrayal
  • Explosive Shot
  • Power Shot
Cone of Cold
If you have a minion that can’t be targeted by spells or one with stealth, put it between 2 minions that you don’t want to take 1 damage and be frozen. If you don’t have minions with stealth or those who can’t be targeted by spells, put minions that you don’t want frozen (most of the time your biggest minions or minions with windfury or other abilities) on different sides of the board, so that Cone of Cold can’t hit them both at the same time.
 
Betrayal
To play around betrayal put minions with highest attack on both sides of the board and minions with lowest attack in middle. This way the big minions will only kill 1 minion when betrayed and small ones will do little damage. Also just like with Cone of Cold if you have minions with stealth or minions that can’t be targeted by spells, put them in middle of minions you don’t want killed.
 

Explosive Shot
When playing around Explosive Shot place either a minion with lowest health or one with more than 5 health in the middle. If you have more than 3 minions and some of them have 2 or 1 health, put them on sides of the board. Also put stealthed minions or ones which can’t be targeted by spells in the middle just like with other spells.


Power Shot
You want to play around Power Shot just like cone of cold: put minions with 2 or 1 health or the ones you don’t want to get damaged on different sides of the board so Power Shot can’t hit them. And just like with other spells put minions that can’t be targeted by spells or have stealth in the middle.
 

Minions that affect your board

Whenever you finish your draft look through your deck to see if you have any of these minions listed below. Then when playing your games unless you have a certain minion from the list in your hand or you play against a Mage, Rogue, Hunter, place your minions as if you will draw the most important minion from the list next turn. If you have few minions from the list in deck and don’t know which one to prepare your board for, minions are listed in order of how they affect your board (more important ones to prepare for are at the top, less important ones at the bottom). Also remember that spells that summon or steal a minion, Shaman and Paladin hero powers and cards that steal minions will all summon minions on the most right spot. If a minion spawns tokens it will summon them to the right of himself (for example Imp Master will spawn Imps to right of herself).

You prepare your board for these 3 the same way. if you have a Piloted Shredder place it expecting it to drop Flametongue Totem or Dire Wolf Alpha when it dies. To prepare your board for one of these minions place your big minions on the left side of the board and small ones on right side. This way you will be able to send a small minion with buffed attack into enemy’s board. Then the small minion will die and another one will take it’s place and get a buff.

  
Sunfury Protector
  
Sunfury Protector has a lot of uses. She can force your opponent to do inefficient trades, protect minions with valuable card text by taunting other minions, protect face damage… .How you should position your minions depends on what goal you are trying to achieve with Sunfury Protector. But generally you will want to pick 2 minions on your board that you want to get taunted and keep them next to eachother. If one of them dies put another minions you’d rather give taunt to next to one alive.

Defender of Argus

Since Defender of Argus is secretly a Sunfury Protector who gives out bananas, all of the uses of Sunfury also apply. In addition Defender of Argus can buff minions out of AoE range or buff it to 2 health so it doesn’t get pinged by hero power. Just like Sunfury positioning depends on what you are trying to achieve but try to have 2 minions that you want to get buffed next to each other all the time.
 

Ancient Mage


With Ancient Mage it’s simple: have 2 minions with the most health next to each other at all times. This way the spell damage buff will stick to the board and you will benefit from it more.
 

Void Terror


It’s hard to predict where you will want to place your void terror. If you have minions that were buffed by Power Overwhelming and are about to die, minions that are going to get pinged by hero power, minions with little health that are going to die easily or Nerubian Egg you will want to eat them all up with Void Terror. If you want to prepare your board for Void Terror put minions you will want to get eaten on one side of the board, so that Void Terror doesn’t have to eat a minion you don’t want him to.

As a follow-up to Wargaming's product line up, World of Warships, its naval warfare MMO will officially set sail on September 17.

“Based on our Open Beta success with World of Warships, Wargaming is poised to launch our next big game,” states Fred Menou, Wargaming's Head of Global Publishing. “With two million participants and the average player spending three hours a day in-game we have an armada of sea captains ready to take the helm of the ultimate naval combat game.” 


World of Warships offers four distinct classes of warships and will have two complete tech trees from the U.S. and Japan at launch. Besides, a number of ships from Germany, the U.S.S.R., and the U.K. will be available. Monster Hunter ExploreCapcom's latest mobile title, launches on Android in Japan today. Hunters can download the game freely via Japanese Google Play Market. The game is basically made by Monster Hunter 3G on 3DS so players will feel easy to find the same monsters, weapons, armors and more.




Monster Hunter Explore adopts the best features from 3DS version and optimizes it for the modern mobile gaming experience. Players can use the virtual joystick to move, dodge and attack. Once you touch the monster during the battle, the camera will automatically follow the target. Maybe that is why the official said players can do all actions in the game only by one hand.

Looks like a new character is coming to Black Desert. Daum just teased a new male character in a silhouette image. The only thing we can be sure is it's a male character and he uses blade as weapon.
 
According to Daum, the answer will be given on September 17.

Previous report said that male ninja could be the next character coming to Black Desert after female ninja Kunoichi was introduced in. Daum didn't respond to the report although they did release a concept of a male character who wields a dagger.

Besides, Square Enix's another well-known title Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden will also arrive for the iOS and Android. When Square Enix announced that Dragon Quest VI was available on mobile devices, I was wondering when will the last game of Dragon Quest series Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden come to smartphones. Finally it comes. We will get a good look at it at the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place on September 17 through 20.

As the most popular game at Dragon Quest VII series, Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden will come to iOS and Android devices, and it adopts the best features from 3DS version and optimizes it for the modern mobile gaming experience. While we still don’t have more details about this game, you can check the official screenshots below.  

Project Gorgon Alpha Review, An Old-School MMO With New Ideas

Project Gorgon is a MMOG developed by a handful of people from Elder Game, and is currently playable for free in its Alpha version. While the game is clearly inspired by seasoned games like EverQuest and Asheron's Call, it is not above including modern ideas. In this fantasy MMORPG, players can take the role of human, half-feline or elf characters, struggling to recover their past while learning about the marvelous lore of the world before them.



Like with in other MMORPG, the game starts with the creation of a character, with basic customization options, and the three above-mentioned races to choose from. However, do not let this limited customization fool you. Appearance means nothing in Project Gorgon. Indeed, the title is full of transformation curses/potions/abilities, and every player will at some point find their appearance changed, willingly or not, to something entirely unexpected. As such, it is not uncommon to find players in the form of pigs, cows, spiders, or deers, to cite a few, questing alongside you in the different maps and dungeons. These curses can, in most cases, be removed through the use of a potion or by defeating the boss that inflicted it, with the exception of the werewolf and vampire curses, both being permanent.



A deep skill system
Another unusual element will the the lack of a class selection. A few minutes in the game will suffice for most to realize that in Project: Gorgon, the notion of a class does not exist. Instead, players can learn "skills", all with a wide variety of unique abilities. While some of these skills will be rather basic, using a sword to obtain sword skills or using a bow to obtain archery skills, the majority will be rather complex, both to learn and master. Fire magic, for example, is one of the most prominent magic casting skill, but will come with a lot of requirements. To begin with, players need to befriend (through favors and gifts) the fire magic tutor to have access to the skill, and learn advanced abilities. And it only gets harder from there, as fire magic is not learned through the conventional leveling way, but by studying it and using recipes. The materials for these recipes themselves get harder to obtain as players go deeper into fire magic. 



Some of these skills also come with consequences and responsibilities. Players that learn necromancy tend to be rather powerful, being able to summon skeleton warriors, archers and mages, but need to deal with certain restrictions. The most notable ones will be that they will not be able to summon their minions if they aren't in a grave or around three tombstones, and that NPC characters will flat out refuse speak to them if they are accompanied by their undead minions. Players that choose to become druids, on the other hand, are also choosing a full-time job as nature's right hand. Occasionally, druid quests will be assigned to the players, and they will be expected to drop everything they are doing to complete them.

Finally, crafting will also come in the form of skills to be learned and level through NPC's and different favors to them. Be it food, armor and weapon crafting, the creation of alchemical potions and even geology/treasure maps leading to rare material and valuable loot, you will first need to befriend the proper character (some of these requiring hours of investment), and further raise their friendship levels for more advanced recipes.

Highly expected changes
Graphically, there is no denying that the game is far behind its time. The Unity engine gives the game a pleasant, but worn look. This is even more noticeable indoors, or within dungeons. On the bright side, a recent successful kickstarter campaign will allow the small team of developers to greatly improve the aesthetics of the game.



Appealing gameplay elements
Exploration-wise, players will evolve in a world split in different maps, with five being available at the moment. Traveling between these maps will require players to interact with portals (or a sailor for one of them), something that must be done with caution as two of them can be pretty deadly to new players. While the maps are not necessarily huge, they are large enough for their purpose. Dungeons are also non-instanced which while meaning that it can be rather easy for players to find party members, also means that, now and then, they'll have to fight over mobs, or wait for their turn. This rule does not apply to bosses, however, as everyone in their vicinity can obtain loot from them after they are defeated. Some of the quests will also require some thought. Dungeons are effectively full of traps, treasures and secrets that you will need to uncover by solving riddles.



As for combat, it will be rather basic in Project: Gorgon. You assign a set of abilities to your three different skill bars, and click on them/use the assigned hotkeys to activate them. While it is nothing exceptional and the developers clearly played it safe on this side, it could be a lie to call it boring. Far from it, thanks to how fun the different skills can be. It should be noted that players can use the abilities of two skills, allowing they to run interesting combos, debuffing and damaging, damaging and healing yourself, or using a full DPS build for high bursts. Once foes are defeated, players will be able to interact with the corpses in various ways, conducting an autopsy, butchering them for meat, skinning them for their hide, and so on.



Conclusion
Put simply, Project: Gorgon is the heaven of old-school RPG fans with its large array of features that aim to facilitate the immersion of the players. Granted, certain aspects, and especially the graphics, are not yet perfect, but these should be improved in the near future. A game to look forward to if you do not wish to try it in its current state.
