Gamescom 2015: Torchlight Mobile Hands-on with Emberblade Class

Debuted at E3 in June, Runic Games' Torchlight Mobile headed to Gamescom and provides hands-on demo for European audiences. If you don't know, Torchlight Mobile is a MMORPG that currently has 3 classes: Emberblade, Engineer, and Kitsune. I picked up Emberblade and saw what this class was capable of.

Similar to most mobile ARPG, in Torchlight Mobile there's a virtual joystick on the left for direction control, and buttons on the right side of the screen for normal attacks and abilities. What weapon you equip decides what abilities you have. For Emberblade, he can choose from great sword, battle axe and spear. Soon after I entered the dungeon, I knew this game was exactly the same to previous Torchlight PC titles, in terms of art style, skill effect, and loot.

You need to practice if you are not familiar with action games on tablet because controlling your character to move and attack in a fast pace is very different to how you do with keyboard and mouse.

The fishing and pet system in PC version will be carried over to mobile version. I saw pets following my character and helped me in battle. And I learned that there will be pet ability as well.

Black Desert Western Alpha/Beta

The original plan was to start Black Desert NA & EU beta in the first half of 2015 which didn't happen. Is the beta delayed? Yes but it will still start this year. The game's Community Manager Oli just confirmed this in an interview with our fansite Black-Desert.com.

You will be able to play the English version of Black Desert Online for the first time from this year. Note that prior to the Alpha, there will be an early test version of the game but I need to ask players to be a bit more patient about the specifics of when the Alpha or Beta will start this year.

There's no date for beta or realese but the goal is to make the game available for both NA and EU players at "almost at the same time". "We are aware that a lot of people have been waiting for a long time to play the game and it would be rather unfair to have only US or EU players to play the game first for an extended amount of time," said Oli.

Some Q&As from the interview

We know that the English Version is currently being developed and translated in Korea. Could you tell us how far the development and translating process is?
Despite the fact we just opened our European office, the work on the English version began prior to that milestone. We now reached the point where we have a rough internal playable build. Texts are missing and it will still take us some time to polish everything considering the huge amount of text that is available in-game. By the time we will start the early test version, we hope to have the completed English version of the game and we’ll be looking forward to the community contributing to any potential mistakes left. The localization of the game is a critical point for us. We want to avoid at all cost the bad impression left by other Korean game companies that bring their games to the west with quality standards that don’t match the expectations of US/EU players.

Can we expect major changes compared to the Korean Version?
All I can say for now is that we are giving a particular attention to the feedback from the US/EU players who played the Korean version so we constantly keep their expectations in mind regarding every BDO US/EU topics. Furthermore, we are building here a solid team with people having many years of experience. As we progress towards the Alpha, we’ll be able to go into more specifics. It goes without saying that the early test version and alpha feedback from the community will be invaluable to us.

Do you know anything about DirectX12 and the process of the promised Virtual Reality support?
We are aware that a lot of players out there are looking at the potential optimization provided by DirectX12 and the new possibilities offered by the upcoming Virtual Reality. What I can say for now is that we are looking very seriously at both for BDO but we’ll speak further regarding these topics once we have something concrete to show.

Blizzard has just announced the new expansion World of Warcraft: Legion at Gamescom 2015. The Burning Legion has returned in World of Warcraft: Legion, and it will raise the level cap to level 110 and also add a brand-new melee class Demon Hunter. Demon Hunter could play Tank and DPS roles.

To combat the armies of the Legion, Azeroth’s heroes will need to achieve unprecedented heights of power, securing mighty Artifacts—class-specific, highly customizable weapons forged in the fires of lore. They’ll also join forces with unlikely allies in the form of an all-new hero class, the vengeful Demon Hunter, and unify champions of their cause at their class’s Order Hall. Legion also empowers players to boost one character to level 100, making it so anyone can join the battle against the Legion alongside their friends.

Season 17 Deck Guide: Mryagut's Aggro Rogue

$
0
0

Mryagut has been on a roll lately, pumping out more deck archetypes than the Duggar family does kids. This time, he gives a new look to a class that has insipidly been tied down to one deck archetype, albeit a good one. Oil Rogue has been the gold standard when it comes to Rogues, to a point that it’s ostensibly considered the only viable archetype for the class when trying to climb ladder. But Mryagut has something to say about that, and like he’s done with several classes, he has given the Rogue a brand new look, in this fun to play Aggro deck!

How to Play:

If I were to characterize this deck, I would have to say that it is a coalition of Oil Rogue meets Face Hunter; it has the minion onslaught of Face Hunter coalesced with the burst damage of Oil Rogue. Essentially, you want to chip away early-on to set up multiple burst damage plays around turn-5-7. Get the early game damage in with Leper Gnome, Argent Squire, and SI:7 Agent, then set up and finish off the opponent with a myriad of mid-game combinations.

Important things to note are that Sap, Arcane Golem, and Tinker’s Sharpsword Oil are the most important cards within the deck and they need to be used pragmatically. Sap will remove the albatross’s of the world ala the Sludge Belcher’s while also freeing up opportunities to do substantial damage to the opponents face at a bargain price. Like Oil Rogue, Tinker’s Sharpsword Oil is this decks bread and butter, allowing the flexibility of board control and damage all in one card. Combined with Blade Flurry, this card will save your ass against other aggro decks, immediately clearing the opponent’s board while also punching them in the face a little bit. Damage wise, this card can be deadly, combining up cheaply with a Southsea Deckhand offers a cool 9 damage or can be even more deadly coalesced with the Arcane Golem, achieving a whopping 11 damage! Similar to Face Hunter, the Arcane Golem provides an early finisher for a cheap price. The affordable price allows boundless combinations early in the game, allowing you to precipitously finish off the opponent before they even know what hit them. Just make sure not to waste any of these cards, frivolously using them up is just another wasted opportunity to do significantly more damage.

Cards like Loot Hoarder and Coldlight Oracle provide card draw, the hoarder for early game and the oracle for when you stall out. The Piloted Shredder exists solely because it’s a sticky minion that can be buffed up the subsequent turn. Loatheb, the only Legendary in the deck, provides you with an additional turn to do massive damage, especially if you haven’t drawn into or used up your Sap’s.

Mulligan Phase:

In my opinion, this is one of the few decks that attempts to stick to the metaphorical “game plan,” no matter what the opponent is playing. In general, you’ll want to be looking for Deadly Poison, Leper Gnome, Argent Squire, and Loot Hoarder. These cards can fulfill the role against all archetypes, either controlling the board early against aggression or chipping away against midrange/control.

Card Synergies and Combinations:
  • Cold Blood + Argent Squire, Southesea Deckhand, Arcane Golem, or any other minion: This is one of those cards that serve a myriad of purposes in your quest for the kill! You should most certainly get its full potential as combo card, but that shouldn’t be too difficult with the affordability of the aforementioned cards.
  •  Tinker’s Sharpsword Oil + Southsea Deckhand or Arcane Golem: It’s the best combinations of the deck, at 9-15 damage for essentially 5-7 mana.  The damage output is ridiculous, either finishing the opponent off or placing them in code red panic alert.
  • Sap & Blade Flurry: Board control, board control, and more board control. You can’t beat the value of these two cards; they are practically steroidal Hunter secrets that you control! Sap is a Freezing Trap that doesn’t activate on shitty minions and Blade Flurry is a stronger Explosive Trap that can actually clear a board.
  • Shadowstep + Arcane Golem: What’s more fun than doing massive damage once? Oh, that’s right, you can do it twice!

Additional Notes:

Overall, I have to say this is a fun deck to play that can efficiently climb the ladder in the early-mid ranks. Mryagut consistently constructs fun new ways to play stale and in this case, archaic decks. If you want to check out more of his creations check out his Twitter at: http://www.twitch.tv/mryagut or his twitter at https://twitter.com/mryagut and as always, if you have any questions or comments make sure to leave them below!

Chinese wild card CDEC go all the way to TI5 winner bracket finals

LGD (0) vs. CDEC (2)

In a game between two Chinese teams, everyone knew that there would be a ton of blood spilled, but nobody was expecting CDEC to show such dominance over arguably the strongest team of the tournament so far. With a flat out 2-0 and an average game time of around 35 minutes, CDEC simply destroyed LGD.

Game 1

Game one started off with some interesting picks including a Luna for LGD’s carry player Sylar and Dark Seer for CDEC’s offlaner XZ. The game was very, very close for the first 35 minutes or so, until an absolutely horrific team fight in the bottom lane, where LGD lost all five team members for just the support Tusk of CDEC. CDEC pushed the bottom and middle rax after this; after one more awful team fight for LGD during a Roshan attempt, they called the game just three minutes after their first team fight loss.

Game 2

It seemed that this rapid loss tilted LGD a bit, as the next game was just riddled with errors. From the draft, where they allowed CDEC carry player Agressif to get Phantom Lancer again to a terrible laning phase all around, LGD’s head was not in game two. Every lane fed, and fed hard; the final score was 5-30 at just 32 minutes in.

Such an unexpected takedown will have repercussions around both the upper and lower brackets. CDEC will continue on a seemingly unstoppable rampage, while one of the favorites to win the tournament could be knocked out in just the top six stage. More interestingly, they will face the winner of Virtus Pro vs Team Secret to advance; either way, one of the hyped teams will be going home much earlier than anticipated. With that said, both teams will still continue on in the tournament, but CDEC have locked in their spot for the upper bracket finals later this week.

EG (2) vs. EHOME (1)

Evil Geniuses up against another Chinese squad EHOME was a match filled with uncertainty. Lately, “lesser” teams have been knocking out favorites left and right; would EG be immune to such a heavy blow?

Game 1

Game one saw EG simply be out-rotated and outplayed at every turn. With EG carry player Fear on Anti-Mage, all his team had to do was hold out and wait on him to farm, but in a rare turn of events, EG mid player Suma1L on Queen of Pain actually got out-ganked and out-pressured by his counterpart Cty on Storm Spirit. This made it nearly impossible for EG to hold on long enough for the Anti-Mage splitpush to become effective, and the gg was called at just 32 minutes.

Game 2

Despite such a rapid and decisive loss, EG did not crumble under the pressure. Instead, they pulled out the world’s most hated pocket pick: Techies. EG support player Aui_2000 planted bombs everywhere, forcing EHOME to play to the beat of his drum. He also managed to get Suma1L on Ember Spirit very fed in the mid lane with excellent body blocking and suicide ganks on Cty’s Razer. This also gave Fear room to farm on Bloodseeker and begin contributing to early team fights. It seemed that the Techies pick really rattled EHOME, and they were already forced back into their base by the 30 minute mark. With an underfed carry player YJ on Phantom Lancer and an absolutely stomped Cty, EHOME were unable to defend their base and called the gg at 35 minutes.

Game 3

The final game of the series showed a new pick for Suma1L: Windranger. He definitely lived up to his reputation, managing to pick up multiple solo kills fairly early on in the game and all around the map. This pocket pick against Cty’s Storm Spirit really put him off balance, and in combination with EG support ppd’s Spirit Breaker charge ganks and Aui_2000’s constant Track gold contributions, Windranger soon became beyond godlike and shoved in the base of EHOME with his Ag’s Scepter. EG offlaner Universe also made a major contribution by keeping YJ, again on Phantom Lancer, in the dirt; the double Shell harassment was too much for the weak early gamer to handle. Thanks to a strong turtle from EHOME, this game lasted until 43 minutes, but it was clear from the start that EG would be taking the 2-1 victory.

This series pointed to some key strengths that EG have over other top tier teams; first and foremost, their mental fortitude. We’ve seen it time and again over the past few days with strong favorites getting crushed by some Wildcard team after an unexpected draft or unfortunate game one, but having a veteran like Fear on your side must certainly help in these situations. Suma1L again showed his worth on multiple heroes, dominating lane even in the game he lost. EHOME will still continue on in the lower bracket, but EG will be joining CDEC in the upper bracket finals later this week.

TI5 day 4 lower bracket: two tournament favourites fighting for their lives

Yesteday CDEC Gaming managed to upset both their match up and my predictions, by beating LGD Gaming in a 2-0 stomp. Today we have the other wild card team playing, but hopefully they will not do anything to mess with my predictions this time! There are only 2 matches that are certain for now, so I will just focus on those for now. The winner of MVP vs. Vici will go on to play LGD in the lower bracket. All odds are taken from ESportGaming, which is where you can place your bets.

MVP.Phoenix (40%) vs. Vici Gaming (60%)

After their lower brackeyt BO1 elimination match against Na'Vi, Vici Gaming haven't looked back since. They are the favourites here after beating Cloud9 comfortablty in the previous lower bracket round and should have a soild series against MVP. Even after MVP's success recently, I don't feel justified in putting them as a good bet against VG. If they do upset this matchup, that is exactly what it will be: an upset.

Virtus.Pro (30%) vs. Team Secret (70%)

Here we have a classic Western match up, that Team Secret will be fairly confident going into. After the blemish on their record by losing ti EHOME 2-0, it looks like the allstar team is back on track. Arteezy admitted that they were too cocky going into the match up they lost and have reigned that in. They played very well against iG after their first loss, drafting well and executing perfectly. We shouldn't count VP out of this at all, as they are a very solid team that have had great consistency recently. Secret are probably the best bet and with odds of 1.2-1, the community reflects that.

VG in top 6, proud Koreans MVP.P end their successful TI5 run

$

0
First match of the day featured Chinese Vici Gaming and Korean MVP.Phoenix. These two were fighting to stay in the tournament and a chance to play against EHOME later today.

The two opened the draft with rare Morphling for VG and Slark for MVP.P picks. VG started a bit better and Chen ‘Hao’ Zhihao´s Morphling took the First Blood with the help from Rubick and Crystal Maiden. Other than Morphling´s early start the game was pretty much even with 5-5 score 10 minutes in. VG, however, used next 10 minutes a bit better. They secured the farm for Hao and the rest of the team were roaming over the map, picking few more kills than MVP.P. Despite the VG kill advantage, MVP.P managed to keep up and won a couple of teamfights. While the fight were brewing, Hao used the chance to farm and once his Morphling came online he was just too much for MVP.P to handle. This resulted in 2 lanes of barracks in VG´s favour 37 minutes into the game.
3 minutes later, VG went into “gg” push, destroyed MVP.P just outside their base and took first game. It is also worth mentioning that Xu ‘fy’ Linsen had an amazing performance on his signature Rubick once more.

MVP.P tried to take game 2 from VG by picking core Naga Siren, but VG had other plans. They managed to take fy´s Rubick once more and combine it with Storm Spirit, Broodmother and Lina. A better draft for VG started to come online fairly early in the game and MVP.P wasn´t ready for the aggression coming from VG. They were picking off MVP.P and Naga just couldn't find a space to farm. 28 minutes into the game VG already started to put up a pressure on MVP.P´s base and at that point they were really far ahead.
5 minutes later, after taking Roshan, VG marched into MVP.P´s base, secured Megas and with it the second game of this series.

Despite their lost against VG today, MVP.P can be really proud of their achievements this year, as their top 8 placement is surely a surprise and a huge leap for Korean Dota. As for VG, they will have to face EHOME in a battle for top 4.

Virtus.Pro pull off huge upset, knocking out Secret in a great day for CIS DOTA

$

Game 1

After a strong, standard draft from Secret and a hugely late game orientated draft from VP, the Russians were quickly overwhelmed by the allstar team. Arteezy was largely uncontested at mid on Templar Assassin, which is never something anyone wants to hear playing against him. Everything lined up for Secret nicely, as the mid game dominance of Tusk, Lina and Dark Seer came together well. Unfortunately there were no opportunities for Naga turnaround plays and Illidan's Medusa just didn't have enough time to get items.

Game 2

After the optimism of VP's draft in game 1, they came back strong, picking up the reliable G Storm Spirit at mid along with 2 semi-pocket picks in Silencer and Visage. Secret played their prefered style of DOTA by maximising farm on their cores along with a Puppey Enigma this time too. They all farmed well and were slowly grinding out a victory, as they expected. If VP didn't do anything it looked like they would just slowly lose.

However, they took this cue and won a couple of well executed team fights in which the Silencer proved to be a huge problem for Enigma. No significant Black Holes were found and VP turned their momentum quickly into a base push. As they attacked the top lane of the Secret base, they pulled off another teamfight that was swung by the Global Silence again, forced out a few diebacks and managed to even up the series.

Game 3

The final moments for both teams saw them draft into their comfort. Secret again just wanted to farm their lanes well and win by letting Arteezy become huge on Shadow Fiend. Unfortunatley, it just seemed that VP managed to figure them out, by not letting Secret get comfortable. A huge factor was s4 having virtually no farm at minute 20 while G on Storm Spirit had Bloodstone and was working towards Orchid.

The final pick from VP ended up setting the tone for the game, as they sneaked the Drow Ranger into their draft along with Lil's Visage, who played fantastically in the previous game. After a mixed laning stage for Secret, Illidan nearly continuously tried to take Roshan for about 10 minutes. Both teams smoked, counter-smoked and circled the Roshan Pit with occassional skirmishes breaking out, but no big casualties. Secret seemed to know that if the Drow/Visage line up managed to get Roshan they were in serious trouble.

Illidan eventually managed to take down the objective, giving the Aegis to G. After a few team fight victories from VP, Secret were really on the ropes. With s4 so poor and Arteezy having to tank up with Sange and Yasha into Black King Bar, they had no damage in team fights. It was a slow decline from here, as VP kept poking at the Secret base, eventually taking Mega Creeps. Arteezy was finally caught out with no buyback at mid, to which they called gg to the game and their TI5 dreams.

The closed beta of 37Games's Felspire has come to an end. The ultra-fast MMORPG Felspire is slated to officially launch Friday August 7th at 9AM EDT.

Features:

Players will initially be able to choose between three classes. Each class can be advanced four times -- resulting in fifteen different specifications in total. When you decide it's time to advance to a new specification you'll be tasked with passing class-specific quests, functioning like proficiency tests. Once you complete those quests your character can transfer to a newer, more specialized role.

Felspire

The world of Eremos is littered with both danger and opportunity. You can customize your appearance and enhance your abilities by equipping some of the 100,000 different pieces of gear that exist in Eremos. You can equip your character with 20 different tiers of gear - or you can mix and match to give yourself the unique appearance and notoriety you desire.

Felspire leaves you with a bevy of options for setting up and customizing your skills. Each player will have a set of active and passive abilities which can be upgraded with skill points and special tomes that can be acquired throughout the journey. Picking the right skillsets will be crucial to your success in Felspire - as some skills are geared towards PvE and some skills are specialized for PvP gameplay.

Gameplay

It's every man (or woman!) for themselves in the Felspire PvP arena (Babel). You'll be free to roam around the arena, collect buffs, and slay rival players at will. Buffs are stackable, so collecting enough buffs will enable you to dispatch other fighters with just a single hit. Other player's kill streaks are visible to everyone, meaning you'll be able to single out or avoid the biggest threats in the arena.

Felspire

Felspire also comes equipped with a handy auto-questing feature that gives you the option to skip straight to the part of the game that you enjoy the most. This nifty addition can automatically slay monsters, collect loot, and is even able to sell items from your bag when it has reached its capacity. This feature can be turned on or off - leaving it up to you to decide when to take the reins.

No MMORPG would be complete without providing ample opportunities for you to work together with friends and guildies towards a common purpose. Felspire offers a plethora of dungeons and world bosses for you to hone your skills and earn epic loot. In the early phases of the game you'll find that some of these dungeons and bosses can be done solo. As the game progresses, however, you'll need to gather a group of trustworthy companions to take down the more formidable mobs and bosses.
