The Issues Of An Ever Evolving MMO Universe (Part 2/3) - How It Affects Players

$

You can read the first part here: The Issues Of An Ever Evolving MMO Universe (Part 1/3) - The History of MMORPGs

A MMORPG is usually set in a persistent universe, which means that it evolves even when you're offline. More than that, the MMO offers a world that must evolve over time to simply be coherent as a universe. And to evolve, developers frequently add new content to their game, through extensions, DLC’s or even free patches. This evolution can be classified in two easily identified categories.

Updates that do not affect existing content

Most of the time, developers offer new content, without affecting the existing ones. Take the example of a traditional MMO. You have a map, classes and a level cap. The classic extension does not touch the basics (with the exception of balancing changes), but adds something new through new classes, new skills, new races or even a raised level cap.

This is the case of World of Warcraft, of course, but also of many other MMO’s. Take the example of Lord of the Rings Online, where the mines of Moria or Rohan were added, without affecting regions that were already in the game. Similarly, developers of Star Wars The Old Republic regularly add new planets leaving the old ones unaffected. There is a shovelful of examples.

However, if the basic universe remains as it was at launch, it no longer has the same flavor. The new regions are usually the epicenter of new max levels. While it is still possible to walk around the older maps, or run the previous dungeons, things are just not the same anymore. They become obsolete and too easy/uninteresting considering the new level cap. For example, a level 50 dungeon will, in most cases, be a walk through the park if you're at level 60. And since leveling up is not optional in most cases, these old challenges are nothing more than shells emptied of their substance. Farewell the difficult dungeons that gave you a hard time, in short, farewell the game you bought. Of course you can always create your own challenges, such as running these low level dungeons with a smaller party, or without using consumables of healing spells/skills. But again, its different.

Nevertheless, this method has an advantage: a region that was present in the basic game is not changing. The races and classes you like are the same as always. The region you enjoyed traveling through are still here, unchanged. Thus, it is possible to return to explore reviving the nostalgia, or better, to create a new character to enjoy the game as it was at release.

Updates that redefine existing content.

But sometimes, it can happen that the universe of a MMO, or at least part of it, is completely crushed by an update or extension. Classes are changed or removed, maps are edited or deleted, drop rates altered for better or worse, crafting professions are rendered obsolete for the benefit of cash shops, and so on. Put simply, the more you explore the game to recall good memories in places or with classes that have marked you, the more unfamiliar it all seems. Everything changes and there is no turning back, if not through private servers, as is the case Nostalrius. To explain it, we'll take two specific examples of games that have evolved in two specific contexts.

The first example is the most obvious: World of Warcraft. In 2010, the third expansion of the game, Cataclysm, was released in stores. The premise is simple: a huge dragon ravaged the world and caused irreparable damage. Areas disappeared, some were entirely disfigured, and others showed up in expected areas. In addition, Blizzard had reworked quests to make the progression from level 1 to 60 more modern and pleasant. However, this had a cost: the end of the universe as the players knew it since 2004.

Cataclysm brought new, and undoubtedly good, ideas. However, it poses an archiving problems: how to preserve the world of Azeroth if it no longer exists? With this update, Blizzard did indeed offer more in terms of gameplay and content than it did in 2004. But what about players who did not want these changes? They must adapt. Of course, Blizzard still has the archives (hopefully), copies of the old world, and some fans have been providing private servers free of charge, but the average player that still wants to subscribe to play the official game has to adapt and accept the cataclysm. The purpose of Cataclysm was to make the players understand the impact of such disasters on the universe. This, however, remains a video game. While not entitled to it, players will want to revisit old areas where they spent hours and hours enjoying themselves with others.

To a lesser extent, Blizzard reiterated this when releasing Mist of Pandaria. Garrosh, the villain of the moment, devastated the beautiful area of Vale of Eternal Blossoms Since then, players have been unable to survey the area as it was.

The second example that we will take is Final Fantasy XIV. This Japanese MMO was released in 2010 and the least we can say is that it was received coldly, although with reason. A complete catastrophe, nothing worked in FF XIV, whether in the gaming system or in the coherence of the universe. Of course, players did not stay quiet, despite the good reputation of Final Fantasy XI.

Nobuaki Komoto resumed the project and promised to save the title. In 2013, the game is released again as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. And the result was well worth the time, the title being one of the most popular MMORPGs on the market even now.

Like WoW, FFXIV has used the medium of a cataclysm to reshape its world, making it more coherent, more complete. The message is clear in this case: the first iteration of the game was a mistake, one that has been corrected. A change welcomed by the players, attracted by this new experience. Square-Enix even seems to deny the existence of this previous iteration completely.

Changes in Economic Models

A MMO is evolving constantly, either over the patches or extensions. Developments often leave the basics of the game unaffected, but not always. And even updates that do not affect these basics will still affect the whole experience in some way or another. Nevertheless, we are talking about the gameplay side of things, the game design side. But now let's talk about something more mundane: money. Many MMOs have indeed changed their business model to survive. In this case, the archiving of the universe poses no problem (except in case of closure, a topic that we’ll tackle later), but another issue is created: how to manage the transition for the players that were present from the beginning and have always been faithful to the game?

An MMO is a commercial product before being a cultural product. It is a cruel fact, but still a fact. The development does not stop after the end of the game. Not only must developers think about enriching the game with new content, but also maintain the servers that cost an arm.

And many MMOs have been forced to evolve, with being shut down as the only alternative. The scheme is almost always the same: A subscription MMO comes out, it does not enjoy the expected success and turns to a free-to-play model to avoid closure. A classic pattern, so classic in fact that upon the release of The Elder Scrolls Online in 2014, the forums were full of people claiming that they would wait for the game to go free-to-play to try it... something that happened a mere year later (sort of, since players were still required to purchase the game).

And most of the time, the change in business model represents a healthy reaction to the market. Many MMO's on the down slope have managed to escape disaster thanks to this change. However, there is the art and the way to do it.

A free-to-play, as the name suggests, is a game that can be played for free. But, some have taken this expression literally by allowing F2P players to wander the world, certainly, but in an extremely limited way. This is the case of LOTRO, a game was much criticized during its passage to F2P for a flagrant misuse of micro-transactions. For example, travels over the map were a paid feature. Note that since then, the game has been offering more and more freedom to free-to-play players.

A number of games from the WoW era passed to Free-to-play and still exist today. This is the case of the excellent Age of Conan (now playable for free) or even Rift, both offering an online store that is profitable enough to warrant the server costs. Moreover note that many MMO’s offer a free experience, but have still not denied the subscription system, ArcheAge being a prime example of this (as well as an example of how bad it can go).

It is also good to know that the free-to-play model is not king in the world of MMOs. There is also the buy-to-play model. These games require a one time purchase. Then, no limits are set in regards to the experience, although an online store (cosmetics, mostly) is often (always?) proposed.

This is the case of The Elder Scrolls Online, which adopted this system a year after its release, in 2015. No difference in experience between the players in this case. Same for Black Desert Online that works on the same system. All gameplay aspects are available to the players following that one-time purchase, although you have to pay for all that is cosmetic.

But while the switch to free-to-play is a saving grace for old subscription games, the old players may feel betrayed by this turn of events. Indeed, if most free-to-play MMO still offer a subscription system or special status to reward them, it's always hard to see a game that you are loyal to buckle under the weight of financial pressure. And let's be honest, a lot don't want other having a free access to what they had to pay for. In the worse cases, they end up having to spend more because of this switch.

Because yes, the switch to free-to-play often means that the veterans have to pay for some of the game experiences they are (were?) entitled to. The loyal player may feel cheated by such manipulation, even if they somewhat find it necessary to continue to play. In addition to paying for some new content that could have been free before, the subscriber sees a lot of new players, not necessarily inclined to stay indefinitely on the game, and affecting the game negatively.

Which raises more questions: did the day-one player not pay for a subscription game in the first place? Is it right that their only options are either enduring unwanted changes, or leaving a game that they paid for and invested a lot of time into?

EA Also Banned Iran from Using Origin - Report

As we mentioned yesterday, the PC gamers located in Myanmar (also known as Burma) were unable to access their games or login to their accounts. Being unable to use the EA's Origin client at all, the players from Myanmar were welcomed with an "Access Denied" message, while it was reported that Origin is no longer available in their country. While a EA representative stated yesterday that the company is working on restoring the access of the players from Myanmar to the Origin platform, another Reddit user reported a similar problem in another country, Iran.

This time, an Iranian player reports that his country has been also banned by EA, and the Iranian players are unable to access the games for which they paid. Just like in the case of Myanmar, the reason behind this decision are the U.S. sanctions against Iran. Although the U.S. sanctions against Iran were lifted, the Origin service is not available. The same Iranian players mentions that the " Ukrainian players were facing the same problem and EA fixed it for them as soon as they started the thread". It seems that Myanmar and Iran are not the only  countries in which Origin is not available.

Face-off: MU Legend VS Revelation Online!

$

0

MU Legend and Revelation Online almost came face to face with each other after their publisher announcing that their closed beta test would both start on October 25th. However, this match was cancelled when Revelation Online backed down, moving its CBT on November 3 and giving player’s time to test/play MU Legend instead.

Some players think that the reason why Revelation Online moved their Closed Beta Test is due to the fact that the game servers are not ready. Some think that it is because of the coming holidays while others think that it is because Revelation Online is afraid of losing players due to MU Legend.

Does Revelation Online have to be afraid of MU Legend? What are the things that MU Legend have that Revelation Online does not? And vice versa? Today, let’s look at some of the more obvious feature differences and possible similarities between the two!

MU Legend VS Revelation Online!

Let the match Begin!

Round 1: In every MMORPG there is one feature everyone is familiar with... that is the CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION! I myself spend a lot of time checking all the available options and features of this feature. Well, this character will represent me in-game so I might as well spend enough time to look good!

Both MU Legend and Revelation Online offers class selection on the character customization screen, in fact both are almost identical on the process. However, the main difference between the two games is that MU Legend class/characters are GENDER LOCKED while you can choose freely on Revelation Online with both male and female option available on all classes. In fact Revelation Online also offers 3 body build the Full Packed “Look at my Muscles”, Medium lean muscle build and a more slim body build. Also 3 “Age” settings, one which shows a more mature/adult well developed character form, the second/middle shows a more teen-ager look, while the third one shows a more childish/younger character figure.

It seems like Revelation Online keeps sending punches to MU Legend, but does MU legend have something that Revelation Online does not in terms of Character Customization? In fact, YES there is! And that is the Multi-Race Selection!

http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201610/31/20161031104738a0ejvpkedjc23372.jpg
Although the MU Legend Character customization is pretty limited in terms of features and options, it does have the option to choose other than the human race. Currently there are 4 race options, the dominant Human race, terrifying Kanturu, cold stare Ashas and the gorgeous Elf race.

For more information about the MU Legend multi race selection and each race affinity, please CLICK HERE.

Round 2: One of the old but important features of a MMORPG is the CLASS SYSTEM! The Class System can either be a selection of pre-determined single class or a combination/stages of classes (multi path system). Either way, this feature is most of the time the determining factor on what is a player’s role in a group/community/guild. A class with huge Health Points and survival skills? Tanker! A class with seemingly endless barrage of melee damage dealing skills? Or a class who controls the arcane arts of Magic to slaughter the enemies with devastating fire and ice? Damage Dealers!

Both MU Legend and Revelation Online have seemingly similar classes. Like the Dark Lord with its high survivability is akin with Vanguard class. The Blader who is a melee damage dealer seems to have a perfect rhythm with Blade Master. The Whisperer dealing long range attacks is in tune with Gunslinger and the Wage Mage with its devastating magical attacks is in harmony with the SwordMage.

http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201610/31/20161031105343a0ejvpqfhxubauah.jpg
We see exchanging blows from left to right, however there is a very distinct difference between MU Legend and Revelation Online. Although MU Legend have 1 more class which at the time is still “in preparation”(Emphasizer), Revelation Online on the other hand have 2 more classes at hand! The Occultist which is a hybrid healer and Damage Dealer, and the Spiritshaper who seems to deliver an upper cut blow due to the fact that MU Legend, at the time, does NOT have a class that is dedicated to HEALING. With Revelation Online CN showing off the NEW ASSASSIN CLASS, Revelation Online pretty much dominate this round!

http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201610/31/20161031105715a0ejvptxyph1s7wb.jpg
Round 3: Next to class system is without a doubt, the STAT POINTS SYSTEM! The stat point system may compose of several stats like Strength, Intelligence, Constitution or Vitality, Agility or Dexterity, etc in which a “Point” is rewarded every time a character reaches or accomplish a certain requirement. The most popular system is 1 point per 1 level up, either way this system mostly provide our characters with a boost and the FREEDOM to freely select which stats you want to spend the points with does not only provide us with a customized build but also, most of the time, enabled us to create a character who is either focused on one mastery or the other. MU Legend although have stat points found on the equipment’s does not really offer a stat point reward which you can freely spend on the stat of your choosing unlike in Revelation Online. This also makes the game classes on MU Legend a more predictable since you will always, most of the time, encounter classes that are mostly built align with their Class Stat affinity. For example, Strength stats for Blader, while in Revelation Online you might encounter a Blade Master who’s stats is more focused on pumping Defense/Survivability which eventually aligns the character/class away from its “definition” function of a melee damage dealer and more into a tanker/off tank build.

Round 4: Graphics and Camera View! Nothing attracts the eye of a gamer more than the glittering majestic view of the game surroundings. Both MU Legend and Revelation Online have gorgeous looking characters, classes and monsters, but the main difference is, MU Legend is using a isometric camera view while Revelation Online utilize a FREE camera view.

http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201610/31/20161031110920a0ejvq5xj8a63xi5.jpg
With MU Legend isometric camera view, not only is the player visual range limited, it is also lacking in many aspect. For one, you can’t really see the sky above. But who wants to stare at the sky in a game, right? Well, how about flying on the sky with your wings while starring at your character’s face with clouds as his background? Perfect wall paper for your facebook page! Or that Dub poses atop a hill? Or that memorable printscreen when you got your in-games first kiss? An ingame selfie shot maybe? With Revelation Online having a FREE camera view, you can definitely take in-game selfies all you want! You can also stare at the surrounding flora and fauna, Look Up at tall buildings and characters etc.

http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201610/31/20161031110310a0ejvpztgq0nzxqd.jpg
With Revelation Online having a Massive Open World map, your Free Camera View just keeps getting better!

Round 5: Dungeon System! The dungeon system is not only a source of Player versus Enemy action; it is also a place where we get resources and best of all, experience in using our skills and performing skill combos. Team/Party gameplay is also developed in this system where each member plays an important role for the success of the dungeon raid. Both MU Legend and Revelation Online have an interesting Dungeon System. MU Legend offers a procedurally generated dungeon system which the dungeon environment, monsters and bosses changes every time you enter the dungeon and also matches the character level or parties highest level player. With Revelation Online, doing a more familiar approach is safe, but it does utilize a same level matching system. So players on both games should be aware that having the best gear is better! With MU Legend dungeon drops and crafting system that will not be a problem, while in Revelation Online the freedom to literally STOP your character from leveling will provide enough time for you to gather your gears before moving forward.

http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201610/31/20161031112404a0ejvqkkjj37ms10.jpg
Round 6: Gear/Equipment System! What you wear, is what you are! For MU Legend that definitely how it goes and getting attached to your gear might bring you some heart ache later on. Since MU Legend lack the freedom of allocating stat points, you will heavily rely on equipment’s with specific skills if you want to align your character on that specific build. With MU Legend random crafting it might frustrate you especially when you get equipment’s that have stats in total opposite of your class/character stat requirements. In Revelation Online however, with the freedom to allocate stats, gear selection might be a little flexible. However, one must remember that both games are heavily reliant on Gear/Equipment!

http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201610/31/20161031113926a0ejvqzt64v86180.jpg
MU Legend offers a skin change in which you can transfer your old equipment skin to your new equipment, while Revelation Online offers equipment breakthrough system like in Blade and Soul.

Round 7: Guild System! No one can deny the Guild runs, Guild parties, Guild VS Guild and many Guild Dramas that we all encounter in games. Guild system is also one of the key features of a MMORPG and also the "one system that brings everyone together". A game is definitely more fun while playing it with your Guild mates!

http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201610/31/20161031115725a0ejvrhnw6ojwbnd.jpg
Both MU Legend and Revelation Online have Guild systems which not only provides a floating Guild Name on top of your character's head, but also provides additional benefits. Benefits like Customized Guild Emblem, Shared Guild Storage System and your typical Guild Dramas. However, Revelation Online does offers more...

In Revelation Online, the Guilds have their own Daily Guild Quest, Guild exclusive buffs, Guild Exclusive events, Guild exclusive craftable items etc... including your very own Guild instanced territory and buildings! You can socialize with your fellow guild and invite them on your very own house too!

http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201610/31/20161031121040a0ejvrut9zpqy1ak.jpg
With 7 rounds, but only a few of what both games can offer, it seems like Revelation Online gets the upper hand over MU Legend. However, the real question is "What does the player wants/Likes?"

If you are a player who likes a isometric Diablo like game who doesn’t want to bother about stat points allocation etc, then MU Legend will definitely be a perfect game for you!

On the other hand, if you are a player who likes Free Camera view, taking ingame selfies, complex features and switching builds then you should absolutely check Revelation Online when Closed Beta Starts!

In my case, I like them both!

Do you agree with the results? Do you share the same point of view? Which game do you prefer and why? Share your opinion in the comment section below!

Thanks!

Clash Royale: Versatile Hog Cycle Deck for a Changing Meta [3800-4000 trophies]

$

0
More than a week has passesd since the last balance update and with great certitude we can say The meta changed significantly. Giant isn't dead, but the Poison spell is. Elixir Collector use rate has dropped down severely.  Skeleton army and the log are everywhere. The variety of decks is huge at the moment, though it seems that cheaper, chip dagame type of decks are taking over.

For me, my playstyle hasn't changed much. I always liked playing cheaper decks and a lot of the cards that are working great now I already used before.
I never really liked the poison spell so I didn't have any impact from this either.

The deck I designed now is build to perform well in a changing meta.
It isn't build vs a particual deck or playstyle but more an all-around deck.

I use this deck around 3.8 - 3.9k trophies.

My deck

Hog Rider, Goblins, Musketeer, Fire Spirits, Ice Spirit, Ice Wizard, Zap, Fireball
Card levels are 11-8-x-2, except for Fireball (7)
For a average elixir cost at 2.8
This deck is a hog cycle deck

Card Breakdown
Hog Rider: The number 1 win condition in this deck, all your offense is centered around this card
Goblins: Their high DPS and cheap cost make them excellent to support your hog rider pushes, I use them frequently on defense aswell (vs mini pekka, prince, miner, ...)
Musketeer: High DPS unit, I see quite a lot of air decks. Musketeer is one of the best answers vs LavaHound/Mega Minion/Baby Dragon/Inferno Dragon/...
Fire Spirits: Excellent to take down barbarians, minions, minion hordes,... with the increase of smaller units (skeleton army for instance) an even greater card
Ice Spirit: Used to buy some extra time on defense, as well as performing a pig push on offense
Ice Wizard: Maybe an atypical card in this deck, I use him for his versatility. I find him great in a changing meta
=> More on the ice wizard later in strategy
Zap: A lot of people are transitioning to the log. While I also have the card available, my favorite spell remains Zap
Fireball: I use fireball to make good trades on defense or support my hog pushes whenever I see fit. Great for ending close games as well

Replacements
You can replace a lot of cards while keeping the general idea of this deck about the same
I would advice to keep it under 3.0 elixir cost tough so you can cycle to your win condition (hog rider) as fast as possible
Hog Rider: No replacement if you want a hog deck. You can replace it with miner for a minder (chip damage) cycle deck
Goblins: Replacing by either Mini Pekka, Spear Goblins, Skeletons, Skeletton army, Guards is possible
Musketeer:  Mega Minion
Fire Spirits: Spear Goblins, Minions
Ice Spirit: Ice Golem
Ice Wizard: Princess, Wizard, defense building* (cannon, inferno tower)
Zap: Log, Arrows
Fireball: Lighnting, Rocket, defense building* (cannon, inferno tower)
* Don't include more than 1 building

Battle Strategy
Defense
I will start off with the Ice Wizard, since he plays a big role in my defense strategy.
Most defenses will pair the ice wizard and 1 or 2 other troops.
The reason I choose the ice wizard in this deck, is because of his versitality.
The meta is changing to smaller troops in general but the change is still ongoing.
Since there is quite a big variety off decks at the moment I want a card that performs well vs a big variety off decks.
Not a lot of cards serve excellent defense potential vs several different decks, but the Ice Wizard is a defensive card that can be usefull vs the most situations you might encounter.
Some examples:
1) Vs Hog or Miner cycle decks (like my own): the Ice Wizard is great at countering the smaller support troops as well as slowing the hog down
2) Vs spell-bait decks (skeleton army, goblin barrel, minion horde,...): You can save your spells on the skeleton army because the Ice Wizard takes care of it easily while remaining available for support vs the next units.
For example: if the enemy puts down skeleton army, next miner + minion horde =>
Use Ice Wizard vs skeleton army, use goblins vs miner, use ice or fire spirit vs minion horde. Ice Wizard will assist in cleaning up.
For 6 or 7 elixir you will stop a 11 elixir push with almost no damage done to your tower and be ready for a counter-push.
3) Vs air decks: Togheter with the musketeer air decks will only be able to do small damage each push.
My deck is excellent vs air in general since 6 cards are available to hit Air.
4) vs Giant and Royal Giant Decks: A card I see more after recent update is the Royal Giant.
I don't want a counter in my deck specifically for the Royal Giant , so I use the Ice Wizard in combination with goblins/musketeer to take the least amounth of damage possible.
Use the Fireball/Zap when enemy supports the Royal Giant with other troops.
Almost everytime I stop this push with the enemy only getting a couple of shots down. Afterwards I'm able to perform a good counter-push.

Offense
Off course your main offense will we centered around the hog rider, since we are playing a hog cycle deck.
With the goblins, fire spirits and ice spirit at hand you have a variety off cheap troops to strengthen your hog pushes.
Goblins are a card I recommend to overlevel if possible since it will make them zap resistant.

The musketeer is a card that transitions quite easily in this deck from defense -> offense.
It's my favorite card to transition since it has such high DPS and is a ranged attacker.
Being able to transition this card a few times each game will drasticly improve your offense and your chance to win.

Depending on the counters my opponent plays I will favor goblins or fire spirits to perform my pig pushes.
For example: vs barbarians, minion horde, minions, .... you want to use fire spirits.
vs Mini pekka, cannon, ice spirit, ... you want to use goblins.
Watch out for the log since this deck is quite vulnerable against this card.
The way to play around this is either wait till your opponent has used his log on offense or bait out the log with only pushing with hog and cycling back to your hog rider faster than the enemy can cycle to his log.

Use the fireball when you want a more aggresive push, but be carefull. You allways want to good value out of this card.
If you can hit the tower + defensive troops it's worth it. Only using the fireball to damage the tower or tower+cannon placement I wouldn't advice during the first 2 minutes of the game.
In general I don't use my fireball on the tower without being part of a push or hitting enemy troops in the process, unless we are in too the last minute and/or there are only 3 or less fireball hits left on the tower to finish it off.

Good luck and enjoy the gameplay.

Lineage: Red Knights' 3-day strees test is currently ongoing in South Korea. This is a great opportunity for us to get a first real look at the game's battles, characters, graphics, and more. We knew that the game will keep the core gameplay and spirits features from the Lineage franchise, but we never had the chance to see how the game would play. Featuring chibi characters (the game's cute factor), territory conquest, fortress sieges, guild battles, pets, and more, Lineage Red Knights is playable in a similar manner to many auto-battling, hero-collecting games.

Only a limited number of fans from all who pre-registered for this strees test have been chosen by NCsoft to test the game. We know from NCsoft that Lineage: Red Knights will be released in South Korea and other 11 countries on December 8th. According to Qoo App, the other 11 countries include: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and "other places." Meanwhile, the Western fans don't know when the game will reach their territories.

Cyan, the developer of Myst and Riven, announced that its Kickstarter-funded spiritual successor Obduction is now available on Oculus Rift.

As a puzzle-solving game, Obudction features a rich story told through the puzzles and environment. Supported by Unreal Engine4, the game will be photorealistic so as to make the experience as immersive as possible. You play the game as yourself, rather than taking on the role of an established character. Upon being abducted by a strange flying seed, you explore your new environment in an attempt to learn more about the nature of your abduction and how you might return home.

The nature of Obduction’s design makes it a perfect fit for VR. Myst fans will remember the system of movement in the game. There was no free movement as such, so you would click on an area to be transported to the next viewpoint. This system of travelling via nodes has found a useful place in Obduction VR.

Clash Royale: 4000+ Sparky Deck Without a Giant

$
0
0
I have used this same deck for months. I consider it to be better than classic Giant/Sparky decks because it is so much cheaper and most of time, more effective. (I usually win when I face Giant/Sparky.)It has brought me from 2900 into to the Legendary Arena, and now over 4000 trophies. I only added the Ice Spirit and the Log once they came out. I've survived through many metas. The RG meta was the hardest, but apparently the Giant/Poison meta ending allowed me to finally reach this milestone.

DECK

Sparky - One of 2 win conditions in the deck. Don't believe the people that say it's impossible to get Sparky to the tower. It's best to get Sparky behind the Valkyrie, Hog, or both.
Hog Rider - The second win condition. You can use the Hog to push the opposite lane or to beat away on the same lane similar to what a Giant would do.
Valkyrie - The best choice to tank for your Sparky in most situations. She can take out many small troops and can pack a punch if she reaches the tower. A classic Hog/Valkyrie push will also completely take a tower in a few seconds if your opponent is low on elixir.
Ice Spirit - The best place is right behind your Sparky. Your opponent will likely Zap and it won't kill the Ice Spirit, unless your opponent's zap is over leveled (or your Ice Spirit is under leveled). Then if the Ice Spirit hits minions, you can zap them. If it hits a Mini Pekka, your Sparky will charge up and kill it. For 1 elixir it can completely change a push. It's also great on defense whenever you need it.
Fire Spirits - Ideally, these are also great to have behind your Sparky, but they are easily zapped. It's best to drop them off right after they zap. If they zap and drop a Minion Horde, their tower is done. If they hit all 4 Barbarians, one zap will finish them off, as long as the Barbs aren't over leveled. They're also great at shutting down almost every Miner push. I upgraded mine to level 11 to help out even more with Barbarians.
Zap - Obviously an amazing spell when trying to keep a deck cheap. Always keep it on hand to zap Goblins or Minions to help your Sparky get off that extra shot.
The Log - I got the Log not long after it was released and have used it ever since. After the buffs it's worked even better. It's nice to shut down the Princess because that extra damage she does to Sparky can be critical. It's also great to kill small troops to allow your Sparky to hit the tower. To do this though, it's best to know your opponents deck, so you know if you should do it preemptively. Cycling the Log and Zap can also help you avoid draws if the tower has a few hundred HP left. Another great use that I don't see often is hitting the Miner and Goblins.
Cannon - The only defense. It's useful against Hogs and it's necessary against tanks. Not because it's strong, but because it can distract them long enough for your Sparky to get 2 blasts in.

STRATEGY
The worst starting hand you can get is spells, spirits, and cannon. I will usually just cycle the spirits and hope they drop a Hog so I can use the Cannon. I also do a quick Hog/Spirit push if it's available. If possible, I always play Sparky or Valkyrie first.

The best push you can get is Valkyrie at the front, then Hog, then Sparky, then spirits, and then spells for support. If you can get all of that down successfully, the tower will be done or you'll at least do a ton of damage.

Now, assuming you have a decent starting hand and your opponent isn't awful, let's get to some real strategy.

Match ups

GIANT DECKS
These usually aren't hard, but with the addition of the Mega Minion and the Bowler, you may struggle. You always want to have Sparky in the same lane as the Giant, played defensively. Wait for the Giant to reach your side and drop the Valkyrie behind the Giant to kill the support. If it's a Bowler, you have to hope it's distracted or hope that Sparky will make quick work of the Giant and move on to it. If it's a Mega Minion, Zap and Fire Spirits will kill it. I like to drop the Ice Spirit on the Giant right when it reaches the Cannon to prolong the Cannon's life. The Log is also good for this. If every works out well and Sparky is still alive, you can counter push with the Hog in front.

ROYAL GIANT DECKS
Again, play Sparky in the same lane if possible. If you drop Sparky first, most players will drop the RG in the opposite lane. All you have to is drop the Cannon and an Ice Spirit to kill it, or almost kill it. A common push is RG/Minions. Zapping after you drop the Ice Spirit will take care of that. If it's over leveled, you can also drop the Valkyrie and do a Hog/Valk push after the RG dies, while your Sparky is in the other lane. You can also try to keep Sparky alive during all of this with spirits and spells.

HOG DECKS
Depending on the deck, you can play Sparky in either lane. Sparky is great to blast away the Hog, but your Cannon, spirits, spells, and possible Valkyrie should be enough to kill the Hog and any support. It's pretty straight forward from there. Just build a strong push and drop Sparky in the back to build up for the next one.

MINER DECKS
For these, I like to play Sparky in the opposite lane. Since Miner decks often rely on counter pushes, I like to make it difficult for them. You pretty much just defend with whatever you need and then push with Sparky and Hog.

LAVA HOUND/AIR DECKS
You're screwed. 3 crown race? I don't play against these decks enough for me to change my deck. Giant/Balloon is possible, however, as long as you can kill the Giant quickly. Spirits plus Zap will almost completely kill the balloon.

I'll stop there to keep this long post from getting any longer.

TIPS
• Sparky can shoot your opponents defense to allow your Hog to reach the tower.
• Try not to drop 2 Sparkys next to each other. It just makes your opponent's Zap even more valuable. The best way to overwhelm your opponent is to drop another Sparky in back and build up another push while they're still dealing with your first one.
• If you're about to lose and it seems like there's nothing you can do, drop Sparky at the bridge in the opposite lane from where you've been attacking. If you're lucky your opponent won't expect it and you can possibly take a tower. I've done this a few times and is what made me fall in love with Sparky.
• If you're finding your opponent's defense too hard to break, it's very easy to draw with this deck. Just keep playing defensive Sparkys and Valkyries and don't put too much elixir into an offensive push.
• If you play Sparky first and they drop a Hog/Giant/etc. in the opposite lane, a well placed Cannon can bring them close enough for your Sparky to shoot them from the opposite lane.
That's all I've got. Feel free to ask me about how I handle certain decks because I've faced them all at this point.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Rocket, the best hard counter to Sparky. If your opponent has a rocket, play Sparky in the middle away from your tower and it's still possible to pull out a win. At that point you're pretty much using Sparky as a "Rocket bait" to keep them from using it on your tower. If they still rocket your tower, well, you still have a full health Sparky and they're down 6 elixir.
