MU Legend KR Open Beta Due in Q1 2017; Watch 10 Minutes of Gameplay Preview

Webzen announces that MU Legend will start open beta in Korea in the first quarter of 2017. They haven't said anything about global open beta but I guess it would be in the first half of 2017 since the 2nd global closed beta will start in early 2017.

Webzen has released a 10-minute open beta gameplay preview video to show the new content. You can see the new class Emphasizer in combat. She can manipulate all kinds of weapons and even the enemies' mind. Besides, there are PvE and PvP mission maps, Knight League.

New PvE maps include the Infinite Tower, Blood Castle, and a maze dungeon, while the new PvP content include 10v10 mode similar to "point capture". Knight League is actually a guild and guild war system. A guild can have its airship, which can be invaded by other guilds. Guild airship is like a dungeon itself with a lot of traps and monsters. By successfully invading the opponent's guild airship, a guild can take home a lot of loot to develop their own guild.

Review of Space MMORPG Nebula Online

$

Nebula Online is an indie space MMORPG available in Early Access on Steam since January 2016 and officially released recently, on November 3, 2016. The game is the brainchild of four developers that have been working on it since 2014. Their first goal was to create an old school game, with a high difficulty, free market economy (the players set prices), almost limitless PvP, complex craftsmanship, and territory conquering.

Character Creation

Character creation is limited to choosing a race, the sex of your character, a class and a nickname. There are three races in Nebula Online: humans, borguzands and kriptizids. However, they have access to the same “classes” that follow the usual archetypes of tank, support/healer, ranged DPS and melee DPS. I was lucky enough to pick the Kriptizids, since they are currently dominating the galaxy.

First Steps

A short tutorial explains the basics of vessel handling. Unlike most space games, here the ship moves with the mouse. To move the camera, simply press and hold the left click, moving the mouse to look in any direction you want. Then, simply use the right click to have your ship move in whatever direction you are facing. A double left click also allows for direct movement in the selected direction, although this option is somewhat restricted according to the camera angle. This is not necessarily easy to grasp early on, habits die hard and I often try to move using my arrow keys. Don’t feel like you are moving fast enough? Simply click on the acceleration to have you ship move at its max speed.

While this does sound fun, the movement mechanics are unfortunately not perfect. First of all, when you turn off the engines of your ship, it immediately stops the acceleration without any management of inertia. The ship simply stops short in open space without the use of retro-rockets or passing through a deceleration phase. There is also no collision management. Asteroids, planetoids, space stations, all can be crossed without any damage.

The World

But putting aside that slight faux-pas that might get fixed later on, the graphics are pretty good. Every galaxy is generated with a lot of objects and structures that can be detected by the scanner, which is accessible at any time if you are looking for something specific. By clicking on the target target, the ship automatically turns in its direction, making some enemies and infrastructures easier to find.

The starting galaxy is a safe area where there is no danger, the enemies are not aggressive (yellow), and are perfect targets for target practice. Being at level 1, you will only have only one skill to damage enemies. Since I picked a Sniper, my ship shot a sort of orb of light from a distance. Each shot costs energy, symbolized in the upper left yellow bar, next to my green life bar.

Once the enemy ship destroyed, you earn EXP, and sometimes a crate that you need to loot using the Q key. These crates contain elements required to improve your ship or create/improve companions.

Companions

Speaking of companions, these are basically mini drones that will follow your ship around, providing assistance in battle. Some will attack enemies while debuffing them or buffing your ship, while other will stay in the distance, healing your ship and providing support buffs. These companions are created in the hangar using diagrams, and require specific materials to be leveled up and upgraded.

The most important resources are to be collected on asteroids, minor planets that appear all over the galaxy, usually protected by an aggressive ship and some non aggressive vessels.

Crafts & Quests

The game incorporates most of the features expected in a MMO: guilds, parties/groups, an auction system, a hangar, a bank and so on. Some features are only accessible from the ship station, including access to the auction, the hangar or crafts. To create an object, simply right-click on the diagram in the inventory, it opens a window that summarizes what will be created and the components that will be used. After creation, the recipe will disappear.

So, a little lost, I went to explore the galaxy. Then I teleported to another system to have more asteroids. There I spent a good hour shooting down any aggressive vessels that prevented me to recover resources from asteroids. With the harvested resources, I was able to create better items for my ship.

Unfortunately, as you’ll soon realise, it is impossible to level up at a decent speed that way. Fortunately, there are quests, based on a contract system organized by different categories. Greedy as I am, I accepted all those available, and soon found my map overwhelmed with contract icons in all direction. You have the usual quests that are about killing X number of enemies or retrieving/delivering specific items. Others include exploring and gathering data about new regions, and there’s even a PvP category that encourages you to kill other players

Conclusion

Specifically, Nebula Online is a promising MMORPG that suffers from a few shortcomings. It is also not for all players, as the game describes itself as being meant for experienced players who want a real challenge, a "hardcore" MMORPG. Leveling up is an incredibly long ride in a giant galaxy that sorely lacks realism on many points. Regardless, there are more improvements to come, and the game is surely fun if you play with a group of friends, exploring space and defeating strong enemies together.

Coming from G-STAR 2016 is a promising retro-style mobile title Evil Factory. Seven minutes of gameplay to me is all I need to put this on my wanted list. what do you think?

The game is about infiltrating into enmey base, fighting robotic enemies inside. The game has taken some inspiration from the classic arcade games in the 80's like Contra. Many well-designed boss battles can be expected. Each battle will certainly get players killed for many times as many unexpected attacks will be used by enemy boss. You don't have guns to shoot, but instead, you have to set up the explosives at the right position to damage the enemies.

Evil Factory will be first released in Korea in Q1 2017. Below is an official gameplay trailer.

About the Expansion

At the center of the Expansion, this Angel princess comes from a great lineage and has been blessed with incredible power. While this is her first appearance in LoA2, Dora has played a key role in all the major events of Sapphire up until now. She was directly involved in the release of the Prime Evils, and is now leading the heroes of Sapphire on a trial into the Eternal War of the Elementals. But what is her ultimate goal?

League of Angels II - Character Design Art

The League of Angels II team invited famed artist Ghost Lee, who created artwork for the original game including Theresa’s design, once again to create a one-of-a-kind Angel. Once Dora’s gorgeous concept art was finished, it was passed to the LoA2 team’s veteran 3D artists. They made sure Dora was faithfully transitioned into the game and fully represented her unique character. With her short hair and determined attitude, she is sure to stand out among the Angels.
League of Angels II - Dora in Battle

Although Dora’s bold and often reckless methods have been highly controversial, there is no questioning her talents and incredible power! As a Support hero, she has the unique ability to manipulate the Rage of both enemies and allies!

Nintendo Perma-Bans Legitimate Customers Over Pokemon Sun/Moon Piracy Issue

$

Following the Pokemon Go craze, the hype around the release of Pokemon Sun and Pokemon moon only got bigger. This also meant a much larger attention from the piracy community of Nintendo's 3DS consoles. The piracy issue got so bad that roms of the newest entry in the Pokemon franchise were already circulating online nearly two weeks before the official release.

Nintendo watched it all closely, and the situation escalated to the point where Nintendo decided to permanently ban every 3DS that went online in Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon before November 18. While this certainly dealt a major blow to the piracy community, it, unfortunately, also affected players that were playing legit copies of the games.

Indeed, a lot of stores over the world are known to sell some games prior to the release date, and it is not uncommon for pre-orders to arrive early. Sadly, these unsuspecting customers were also hit in the ban waves of Nintendo for playing the game early. There have also been numerous reports of players that remained banned even after they sent proofs of purchase for the games.

Only time will tell if these bans are effectively permanent, or if Nintendo is doing a show of force to scare people out of piracy, and will eventually remove the bans.

League of Legends: Shyvana Ability Changes Announced

$

0
Riot Games has posted an dev blog on League of Legends site on the upcoming Shyvana ability changes that are headed our way in patch 6.23 on November 22th, 2016. Riot Aether & Riot Wav3break said: "Shyvana’s already a pretty cool champion - we wanted to make her better. As pre-season work wound down, we decided to take on that challenge."

If big changes for Shyvana seem out of left field, you’re not crazy. Compared to the champion updates you’re used to, we didn’t pick Shyvana to solve major issues that need huge time investments. Instead, she’s one of League’s first opportunistic updates: updates where a smaller amount of work can yield big improvements. While not entirely without issues (she’s had a tough year), Shyvana’s already a pretty cool champion - we wanted to make her better. As pre-season work wound down, we decided to take on that challenge.

Half-Dragon, Half-Diver

Shyvana was created long before today’s champion class/sub-class framework. Within that framework, Shyvana’s closest to the Juggernauts: a durable and devastating group of champions who lack reliable ways to get to their targets. Of that group, Shyvana’s selling point is that Dragon’s Descent... gives her a reliable way to get to her target. Through this lens, her unique strength is that she periodically gets to ignore one of her weaknesses.
This is why Shyvana has such a hard time clawing her way back from a disadvantage. Ignoring weaknesses doesn’t help when you’re too behind to flex your strengths! It also gives number changes a short shelf life, since even slight meta shifts push her aggressively ahead or behind the rest of the pack.

That said, Shyvana isn’t fundamentally flawed. Even while ahead, her weaknesses are still pretty clear: once she ults into the enemy backline, she lacks both crowd control to shut down enemy kiting and sustain to outlast it. We felt a few carefully targeted changes would go a long way - hence this project!

Kill It With Fireballs

We’ll start with Shyvana’s shiniest new toy: an exploding fireball. E - Flame Breath used to become a cone of damage in Dragon Form, which let Shyvana hit more things, provided enemies clumped up nicely for her. Most aren’t that accommodating, so we wanted to give Shyvana something she has more control over.
Instead of a cone, Dragon Form now gives Shyvana control over how far Flame Breath travels, exploding for bonus damage. The explosion leaves “scorched earth” that constantly marks enemies for Flame Breath’s on-hit proc. Basically, cast E at a distance for spicy fireball snipes, or cast it in melee range and claw face on whoever’s stuck in the blast zone.
E - Flame Breath

Shyvana unleashes a fireball that stops after hitting a champion. All enemies hit take 60/100/140/180/220 (+0.3 ability power) magic damage and are marked for 5 seconds.

Shyvana’s basic attacks against marked targets deal 2.5% of their maximum health as magic damage on hit.

Dragon Form: Flame Breath explodes on impact or at target location, dealing 100~200 (at levels 1-18) (+0.3 ability power) bonus magic damage and scorching the earth for 4 seconds. Enemies on scorched earth take 60-120 (from levels 1-18) (+0.2 ability power) magic damage per second.

Flame Breath’s on-hit damage against monsters is capped at 100 damage per hit.

Just Dragon Things

Looking toward R - Dragon’s Descent, we felt we could deliver a much more epic transformation. That means a bigger dragon and uninterruptible flight (think Malphite or Hecarim). We also swapped Dragon Form’s resistances for bonus health - while both are survivability stats, Juggernauts find more interesting ways of using health (Titanic Hydra, Sterak’s Gage, etc.) It also fills up a chunk of Shyvana’s HP bar, which is nice.

Of course, we had to trade a few things to get there. Beyond the loss of resistances, Dragon’s Descent does less damage and travels less distance. Overall, we don’t expect these changes will shake up how Dragon’s Descent is used, but we’re pretty sure it’s cooler now.
R - Dragon’s Descent

Active: Shyvana transforms into a dragon, gaining 150/250/350 Health and flying to target location. Enemies along her path take 150/250/350 (+0.7 ability power) magic damage and are knocked toward her target location.

Passive: Shyvana generates 1 Fury every second. Basic Attacks generate 2 Fury.

Keeping Focus

Time will tell if we’re right, but the E and R changes look to be a big buff to Shyvana. While we want this update to be a net-power-up, internal testing showed us she didn’t need that much love (a kiss on the leg should be sufficient). Rather than hit the active elements of Shyvana’s success, we targeted mechanics we think she’ll still function without.
First, W - Burnout no longer leaves a flame trail in Dragon Form. Shyvana wants enemies in front of her so she can attack them, but Burnout asked her to stay in front of them instead. Felt weird. So, Burnout now gets bigger as Dragon Form does, letting Shyvana focus on what’s in front of her.

Next up is Shyvana’s Passive - Dragonborn. As work progressed, we noticed Shyvana was becoming unkillable in playtests. Dragonborn - a big ball of resistances - was an obvious lever to pull to reduce that tankiness. It got fairly sad to read as we whittled its numbers down, and we wondered if we could make it more interesting, rather than just weaker.

To be clear, in most cases, Dragonborn will be weaker than before. Shyvana gets much fewer resistances by default, and those resistances no longer scale with level. However, she can recoup some of the loss if she and her team secure dragons. This gives Shyvana - a champion frequently left to her own devices on top-lane island or the jungle farmhouse - a unique way to participate and celebrate in her team’s success.
Passive - Dragonborn

Shyvana deals 10% more damage to dragons.

Shyvana gains 5 Armor and Magic Resistance. Elemental drakes defeated by Shyvana or her allies grant her an additional 5 Armor and Magic Resistance.

With everything going on, it’s hard to nail down exactly where Shyvana will land. All said, we’re hoping she comes out stronger than before. If we miss the balance mark (in either direction) this update’s put us in a much better position to follow up.

Dive well, Shyvana.
