TERA's Getting A New Brawler Class in This December's Update

The free-to-play action MMORPG TERA is getting a new update named "Knockout" in December and we'll meet a new Tank class called Brawler. Tera’s producer explained to Gamesbeat that how Brawler differs from other MMO tanks:
 


              “Traditional MMO tanks tend to grab aggro with taunts and keep mobs focused on them using skills that hold attention but don’t usually deal much damage,” Sun told GamesBeat. “Tanks also tend to stand in one place for long periods of time, soaking up damage while cycling through a series of skills to maintain aggro. It’s a hard job, but it’s not really all that much fun.

 




As a tank, Brawler is soaking up damage from enemies and bosses by attacking them directly and meanwhile using diverse abilities.



In addition to the new Brawler class, the update also adds two new dungeons, the pirate-themed Kalivan’s Dreadnaught, and the haunted Forsaken Island. Players can also earn new end-game armor: the tier 8 Dreadnaught set and the tier 9 Starfall set.

Black Desert Online NA/EU Alpha just ended on 2nd Nov 2015. Among the classes available are Warrior, Ranger, Sorceress, Berserker and Wizard. Among these classes, Wizard is the latest class, merely introduced in Black Desert Korea early this year. I am actually quite surprised that Wizard is released in the alpha. 

I have played Warrior and Ranger in the Korean CBT last year. Therefore, i decided to try out a different class this time: Wizard. Since the alpha is merely 1 week,  I will only briefly introduce the class and the skills from my experience with low level game play (lv15). Feel free to leave comments and feedback if you have played the class at higher level or even at end-game in other versions of BDO. 

The official introduction for Wizard at character selection screen:
"Wizards are known for their prudence in battle. In return of casting time lag, they perform large-scaled magic attacks. Their thorough move will burn, freeze and shatter their enemies with the power of natural elements such as fire, water and wind, and finally drive foes into checkmate."

The chart at character selection show that the class has high attack and decent evasion, easy to play but possesses lesser combo and low defence. 



Basic Skill Introduction

Staff Attack I
Attacks enemy with a staff with magical power.
LMB (left mouse button). 
Damage 100%. Forward attack 100% x 2 hits. Accuracy + 4%. MP 5 recovery per hit. Down Attack.

Comment: I don't really use this much; the damage is low. It recovers 5 Mp per hit, but wizard has better ways to recover MP. It is a "Down Attack" which means that it deals 1.5x damage on knockdown targets.


Magical Arrow I
Makes magic power into arrows to shoot. 
RMB (right mouse button). Require 2MP. 
Damage 108%. 10% chance to critical hit, Accuracy  +2.5%, Up to 2 targets. Endurance consumed if you move during the attack.

Comment: Low damage but can be cast successively by holding down RMB. You can also move while casting.  Good for finishing off enemies with bits of left-over HP after using a high damage AOE skills. The damage is increased as you level up ( up to 300% at max), with increased critical rate ( up to 30%) and more targets (up to 7 targets). 




Concentration Magical Arrow I
Draws magical power to shoot an arrow with it.
Activated with LMB+ RMB. Shoot if left or right button is not pressed. Required 40MP. CD 5sec.
Damage 635% x 2 hits. 20% chance of critical hit. Accuracy + 7.5%. Up to 3 targets. Induce Rigidity if the hits is successful.  Rigidity effect is not available when used during the cool down time. Down Attack.

Comment: Requires a short charging time. The damage and accuracy seems to be pretty good. The skill will induce Rigidity, which is sort of like a mini paralysis effect.  The damage increases significantly as you level it up: 899% x 2 hits , 40% critical rate, extra damage equal to 3.5% of Max MP, with up to 5 targets. 


 
 

Fire Ball I
Shoot a powerful fireball to attack enemies.
Down + LMB. Can be used instantly by right-clicking while casting. Require 10MP. CD 5sec.
Damage 322% x 2 hits. Accuracy + 2.5%. Up to 4 targets. Burn damage  -15 every 3sec for 9sec. Knockdown if a hit succeeds. Down attack. If unmounted, the Fireball buff is applied, which lasts for 7sec after using Fireball. Damage reduced if used instantly while casting. 

Comment: The fully charged fire ball takes awhile to cast. However, you can do a quick-cast by right-clicking during the charging process, with a lower damage.  The AOE is pretty good, up to 4 targets with knockdown effect. As you level up the skill, the damage and number of targets increase, but the burn damage remains stagnant. The skill  applies a Fire ball buff, which grants a fire visual effect to your hands after casting. The Fire ball buff allows you to cast the follow up skill, Fire Ball Explosion (which I have not learned yet). 




Dagger Stab I
Imbue magical power into the dagger to attack the enemy. 
F. CD 20sec
Damage 550% x 2. Critical hit 100% with each hit. Rigidity with each successful hit. Accuracy +4%. Critical hits doesn't apply and the damage dramatically decreases during the cool down time. The cool down time won't be reset. Counter Attack.

Comment:  I don't really use this skill much though the damage looks pretty high on paper. The CD is too long and the range is very short. However, it is a counter-attack, which means it does additional 2 times damage when the skill hits your target who is using a skill. 



Magical Evasion I
Dodge quickly in all directions using magical power
Shift + arrow key.
Consume 250 stamina.

Comment: Leveling the skill reduces the amount of stamina consumed.


Teleport I
Instantly teleports within range using magical power.
Shift + Space bar. Require 50 MP. CD 9sec. 
Movement Speed + 10% for 10sec. Invincible until the character appears again.

Comment: The MP consumption is pretty steep for this skill. However, it grants an invincibility to Wizard for a short period of time and allows you to teleport away if you are cornered by mobs. Leveling the skill reduces the CD and increases the teleport distance. MP cost remains the same. 


Magical Shield I
Using magical power, it turns a certain amount of the damage the character received into Mana, reducing the maximum damage.
Q. CD 1min 15sec
Consume MP equal to 25% of damage for 30sec. All Resistance +6% for 30sec.

Comment: The shield reduces the damage received and turns it to MP consumption instead. At higher level, it can reduce up to 40% damage and increase +15% resistance. I guess this skill will keep you alive in tough situations, but it burns your MP pretty fast if you are hit  frequently.


Mana Absorption I
Takes opponent's mana to recover the character's mana.
Shift + LMB. Require 200 MP. CD 15sec.
Target MP - 20%. Absorbs 20% of the target's  MP. Damage 625% per finishing blow. Movement speed -50% for 4sec on successful hit

Comment: A good skill to recover MP, by sucking your target's MP :D. It deals damage as well, on the finishing blow. However, you can't move while channeling the skill. Wizard is pretty much a self-sustaining class with the capability to recover MP over prolonged battle, without relying too much on potion. 


 
 

Lightning Chain I
Shift + RMB. Hold RMB to use it successively. Require 20 MP.
Damage 161% x 4 hits. Able to use up to 2 times in a row. Accuracy +2.5%. Up to 3 targets. Induce Rigidity if a hit succeeds. If unmounted, Lightning Storm buff is effective, which lasts for 7 seconds after using Lightning Chain. All targets are electrocuted and slowed down. Damage slightly reduced if used successively.

Comment: I don't like this skill. It leaves you very vulnerable while channeling it. I guess it can be used effectively if you are in a party with someone else tanking the enemies. The Lightning Storm buff allows you to cast a more powerful Lightning Storm skill, which deals good damage in large AOE.  Unfortunately, my level is too low to learn Lightning Storm. 




Thunderbolt I
Drops a strong lightning from the sky to attack the enemies.
Down + F. Require 20 MP. CD 7sec.
Damage 279% x 3 hits. Faint effect if a hit succeeds. Down Attack.  All targets are electrocuted and slowed down. When used during cool down time, faint effect not available.

Comment: This seems to be a pretty good skill without much charging time. It induces Faint effect on targets and deals additional damage on knockdown enemies.  Thunderbolt can be followed up with Lightning Residue (not learned yet) to deal even more damage. 




Freezing I
Performs a strong chill attack to the enemies within small range. The enemies become frozen.
Down + E. Require 30 MP. CD 8sec
Damage 153% x 3 hits. Accuracy + 10%. Up to 2 targets. Freezing if a hit succeeds.

Comment: The damage is lower than other basic elemental skills, but it induces Freeze status. The casting animation is also one of the fastest among the other basic elemental skills. 


 
 

Speed Spell I
Uses the magical power for self and friends nearby to raise the attack, casting and movement speeds.
Can be used with Quick Slot. Require 120 MP. CD 1min 30sec
Attack speed, movement speed and casting speed for players and friends increase by 10% for 30sec.

Comment: One of the 1st party buff which a wizard learns. At max level, it provides up to 20% speed buff to you and your allies for 30sec. CD is reduced to 50sec at max level (III). 


Earth Response I
While swiftly dodging left and right, strongly strikes the ground to attack the enemy ahead with protruding rocks.
Left or Right + LMB. Requires 30 MP. CD 4sec.
Damage 223% x 2 hits. Lift if a hit succeeds. Accuracy +5%. Up to 3 targets. 

Comments: The skill can be cast quickly while you are evading.  The damage is decent, but the AOE is smaller than it looks. It requires you to be quite close  to the target to land. 




Healing Aura I
Recovers a certain amount of friends' HP.
E. CD 15sec.
Recover HP and MP of self and friends by 12%.

Comment: This is another party support skill which can be learned at low level. Recover both HP and MP by 12%, with 15sec CD.  At max level (V), the HP/MP recovery is increased to 20% with 10sec CD. 


Conclusion

Overall, Wizard is a spell caster class with many party support, HP/MP recovery skills (even Revive skill at high level). This is a class I would probably enjoy playing since I have always favored supportive role in the party. However, most of the damage skills require relatively longer casting or channeling time, as compared to the other classes. Some higher level skills are not listed here simply because i have yet to learn them yet. I might cover higher level skills when the beta with longer test period is available.

Zenonia S: Rifts Global Launch on Mobile in Time

1. ASTA first came into western MMO players' radar a couple of years ago as an MMORPG with eastern ink and wash painting style of art. What kind of world the game is based on?

The game is first and foremost a Fantasy MMORPG, with a fictional world and fictional people. While it does take inspiration from East Asian mythology and you can see for example some Buddhist elements in its design, it does not claim to be realistic or historically accurate.
The developers created a truly unique and colorful game world full of interesting characters and environments, and the overall art style and setting of the game make for a truly breathtaking experience.

2. The game tries to introduce in classic MMORPG gameplay features, and can you go into details of what classic features RPG fans will be excited for?

One key thing that sets ASTA apart from many other games is it goes against some of the mainstreaming & casualization seen in many current generation titles. It brings back deep character customization including customizable attributes and talent, server-first achievements, and so on, and at the same time ASTA succeeds in bringing a fresh perspective to classic MMOs by including innovations which most players do not want to be without anymore, for example convenience features such as raid-finders etc.

3. While many players don't mind grinding and repetitive content, some others are not fans of them. Does the game have a solution for both players?

While there is a certain levelling curve, there really is not much focus on grinding in ASTA, and following the quest lines available to you should get you through your character progression without much fuss.
Additionally, you can opt for an alternate focus and level through dungeons, PvP or even collecting crafting materials ... though that would be a different kind of grinding.

4. How does dungeon look like in the game? Specifically the boss mechanism, player roles, and loot system, etc.

Dungeons can be entered with 1, 3, or 5 players for different difficulty modes, and consist of multiple stages / objectives that the players have to fulfill in order to be able to face the final boss at the end of the dungeon.
The game utilizes the traditional "holy trinity" of tanks, healers, and damage dealers, and the bosses have a variety of mechanics and skills that require players to play together and coordinate their efforts. And of course there's some cool loot in it for you if you manage to beat the boss It should be noted though that not all loot comes from drops, but that there are also currency systems like the Tai Tokens that can be earned by completing dungeons, public quests and the like and can be exchanged for equipment.

5. What type of items can players craft? Can crafters make gear that's as powerful as those dropped in dungeons?

The game offers 6 different crafting professions: Weapon- and Armorsmithing, Carpentry, Tailoring, Jewelcrafting, and Alchemy.
With these professions, you can craft pretty much any kind of equipment item or consumable you may need, and some quite powerful gear as well that can definitely hold its own when compared to what you could get from a dungeon of the same level.

6. Is there open world PvP? What rewards players can expect to get from battlegrounds, arenas, and guild battles respectively?

Open world PvP is possible, though only in higher-level areas starting with level 40. The lower level areas are faction-exclusive, so open world PvP is not available there.
As for the rewards, the principle is quite simple: Competing in different kinds of PvP contents rewards players with different currencies / tokens that can then be exchanged for special PvP equipment that offers them better protection from or offense against other players.

7. Is it possible that PvP players make PvP-focused build for their characters (which is essentially different from the build used in PvE raids)?

Absolutely! ASTA offers plenty of customization options for players to specialize their characters for whatever they want to do in-game. When focusing on PvP, you will not only have to get the right equipment, but also choose the correct talents to get an edge over your opponents.
And of course, just the right attribute combination, divine spirit loadout, and socketing the best PvP gems is essential

8. How far is the beta version from the latest version in South Korea (before it was shut down)?

That's a difficult comparison to make, as we "cherry-picked" the contents for our initial version of the game to some degree. We were free to mix and match the contents from all Korean releases, so we already have elements in there that were only released, say, in the 1.8 update in South Korea, such as the mentoring system.
Basically, we tried to already include any convenience and feature improvements from the get-go to enable our players to have the smoothest possible gameplay experience.

9. Is Poygon Games fully focusing on the western version of ASTA now?

We have their full support and will also be receiving new contents and updates past what was available in the Korean version of the game.
While our version of ASTA is not their only project, they have proven to be very reliable and accommodating, and overall great to work with. We're very much looking forward to what we will be able to accomplish together.

10. Have you had a schedule for future tests and even final release?

The first initial beta test has begun on November 3rd. This first beta phase is set to last for one week, ending on Tuesday November 10th, with a second beta phase scheduled for late November.
The start of Open Beta is not yet finalized, but we should have something on that soon.

Torchlight Mobile Won Best Mobile/Tablet Game at Game Connection 2015

Torchlight Mobile, the upcoming mobile game from Perfect World, impressed judges and attendees alike at this year's Game Connection event in Paris, France. The highly anticipated action RPG was named Best Mobile/Table Game, among many other strong contenders.

Having received multiple awards at E3 2015, Torchlight Mobile was also awarded "Best Mobile Game," at Gamescom by ComputerBild.de (CBSpiele.de). This latest offering in the Torchlight series shows no sign of stopping in terms of receiving critical acclaim.



Game Connection 2015 also proved to be a perfect opportunity to listen to press and fan feedback, and integrate that feedback into the game.




Torchlight Mobile also bears many other similarities to its predecessors, both in terms of gameplay as well as visual aesthetics. Pets that can carry loot and fight alongside the player's characters will once again serve as one of the series' hallmarks. The fishing system, another fan favorite, is also confirmed to return. The entire game is crafted in the signature style of the Torchlight series, which is sure to strike a familiar chord with fans.

The other days, we reported that NEXON signed an agreement with Bluehole to publish mobile game T2. The mobile games basing on TERA franchise became heated topics. Actually, Bluehole Studio established a new mobile game development team with 10 sub-studios and 100 developers. Currently, there are 3 tasks in working. One of them is mobile RPG basing on TERA IP. Dungeon Striker Begins Grand Opening on November 4th

Dungeon Striker Begins
 is an action mobile RPG developed by Eyedentity Games (or Eyedentity Mobile), The game features a full online game, including hundreds of PvE dungeons, multiple characters, guild system, 10-player PVP, mercenary system, etc. Grand opening starts in South Korea from now on. The game has a lot of events planned.  Dungeon Striker Begins has gone through twice closed beta and is scheduled to launch worldwide in various languages in the near future. Invictus Gaming unable to attend Frankfurt Major

It has been announced via the Invictus Gaming Weibo and Facebook account that the team will not be able to compete at the very first Major. The Facebook post stated that the team were not going to be anle to compete due to "personal reasons". 

A rough translation of the Weibo post gives a more detailed explanation, saying that the players were unable to gain Visas to play at the event. The post reads, "Since the player Su 'super' Peng's account were problems not solved in time, the Soviet Union was unable to obtain a passport for him to travel". 

The post continues discussing super's Visa issues and the roster and substitute lock that Valve has introduced for the Major: "Since Valve's official introduction of the substitute system, so in case we failed to submit a list of the bench, Valve is not allowing iG to re-use substitutes, the end result is that the game will not travel iG, Valve will choose another a Chinese team in our place to attend the Frankfurt Major".

Super was a post-TI5 addition to the iG squad and is now the team's new captain, but passport issues hampered is progress in guaranteeing his attendance in Frankfurt. iG also failed to sign up for Valve's registration list in order to be allowed to compete with a standin. They did not register any substitutes on their official roster and so will be denied the use of one. 

This will be one of the first premier international LANs that the Chinese TI2 winners will not be able to attend. A replacement Chinese team is to be announced shortly. Currently, it is rumoured to be Newbee.Young, as they were the team that iG beat in the lower bracket of the China qualifiers to make it to Frankfurt in the first place.

Tree of Savior's developer imcGames just secured more beta keys from Steam and they re-opened CBT application again. Starting today until November 6 you can register an account at TOS website (if you did that before you can skip this step), log into the official site, and click on [Register for 2nd CBT] button to enlist. The developer will randomly select certain number of players for the test.
 
The registration process will be the same as last time. You have to first log into our website and click on[Register for 2nd CBT] button which will be displayed on the top right corner of our website.

We are going to accept registrations from you until November 6th, 00:00 AM (EST).

Supernova Reveals Upcoming Closed Beta and Special Live Stream Today

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America (BNEA) and Primal Game Studio is announcing a second closed beta for their thrilling sci-fi game Supernova, a real-time strategy (RTS) inspired multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) coming soon to PC. The game will enter its second beta on Monday, November 16 and will feature updates based on data and feedback gathered in the first closed beta test to enhance player experience. Rumor: Borderlands Online Studio Has Been Shut Down

According to relevant personage, 2K Games China studio announced the closure on November 4th and dismissed employees. It is said that the closure involves many 2K studio in the Asia Pacific region, including Singapore studio. The cause is unknown but maybe the major losses of the company is a very important reason. 2P contacted the relevant person of 2K at the very first time, but we didn't receive a positive response.
 

2K Games China studio is a Video Game Development Studio located in Shanghai, China set up by Take-Two Interactive in 2006. Now it is developing Borderlands Online and teaming up with Shanda Games. The game is supposedly scheduled to launch in 2015 and will be available on home computers and mobile devices. Whether this closure affects the game or not is still unknown, we also conects with Shanda Games to get the latest news.



 

Could There Be an Overwatch Console Announcement at BlizzCon 2015?

BlizzCon 2015 is just around the corner and Blizzard's new game Overwatch has raised enough attention. The game which was announced at last year's BlizzCon is expected to have a console announcement at BlizzCon this weekend.
 
The clues the back up the potential console announcement include source codes related to PS4 and Xbox One are found in the PC version, and game director Jeff Kaplan's comment on the game's console version - "(the team would) love to see Overwatch played on whatever it could be played on."
 
All remain to be seen this weekend. And even there's no console announcement, there are going to be some exciting new reveals for Overwatch.

Q: How do I use the Dragon Pouch?
Dragon Pouch is used to expand your inventory. The first expansion is 1 Copper. The later expansions require a certain number of Dragon Pouches. Click on the next row of inventory to see how many Dragon Pouches you need to unlock.
 
Q: Can I use my Character Alteration Ticket?
This feature is not available during alpha/beta.

NCsoft: Lineage Eternal to Enter Closed Beta Test in the 1st Half of 2016

On November 4th, NCsoft unveiled its financial report for 2015 Q3. With the release of this financial report, NCsoft also introduced the progress of its current titles and future plans.

In the first half of 2016, NCsoft will plan to release new titles gradually. First of all, for online game, Lineage series' latest title Lineage Eternal will meet the public in the first half of 2016. NCsoft Licenses Chinese Studio to Develop Lineage 2 Browser Game

According to the earnings report released yesterday, NCsoft revealed that they would give the authorization of 'Lineage 2' IP to Chinese developers 37wan to develop the web game.
 



There are 4 games adapted from 'Lineage series'. Two of them are developed by NCsoft, the others are developed respectively by Netmarble (KR) and a web game developed by China.
 


Besides NCsoft, lots of game companies also choose to sell game IP to Chinese developers. For example, Square Enix teams up with Perfect World to develop Final Fantasy Type-0 Online, DragonNest: Labyninth and New Contra Game. However, the quality of these games varies. How about this classic MMORPG? Wish it can bring us the gameplay just same as Blade & Soul, Guild Wars 2 and AION!
