10 Tips for Paladins Beginners

$

Paladins is still very early in its beta, and people are understandably still figuring out how to play it well. If you're new to the game or just looking for a few tips to improve your gameplay, these 10 tips might help you sneak out a couple extra wins and bonus chests.

Until more characters and cards are released, there's only so much of the "meta game" that can be determined. There will certainly be a lot more things to learn and discuss in the near future, so tips and tactics are on the simple side right now. Below you'll find a few basic concepts, strategies, and friendly reminders I've deduced, but many players still haven't quite grasped.

Objectives are the Objective
Way too many players get caught up in fighting and forget the goal of the game. You're supposed to be capturing points to spawn a siege engine, then using that siege engine to destroy your enemy's base. Anything that doesn't contribute to that goal is a waste of energy. Don't chase opponents miles away from the objective unless there's a distinct advantage to doing so. Don't focus on kills when you can be hitting a gate that's almost dead. Don't get yourself killed when your team needs you at a capture point. Think about every action you take and determine whether or not it's helping you reach the end goal.

Back Off When the Siege Engine is About to Die
Way too many teams will push a siege engine into the enemy base, and then linger far too long while hoping to kill an extra enemy. Unless there's a chance you can win the game at the vault, you need to rapidly leave their base once your siege engine is below 10% of its health.

Killing them in their own base does almost nothing, because they'll respawn right where they died in a handful of seconds. Sometimes it can help to linger well outside their base and keep them pushed back, but only if you already have teammates waiting at capture points to give you a head start and you can get away safely 100% of the time.

Always Look for the High Ground and Cover
Using the environment to gain an edge over an opponent can often make the difference between life and death. Many characters in the game benefit from area of effect damage hitting the ground below you, and positioning at a higher elevation can prevent them from throwing projectiles at your feet. You can also use cover to pop out only when your attacks are up, reduce your visible hitbox, or simply make your movements hidden and unpredictable.

Don't Be Out of Position When Capture Points Spawn

Capture points spawn semi-randomly in one of three locations. The only rule is that a capture point won't spawn in the same location twice in a row. This means you always know a point will spawn in one of two locations, allowing you to significantly reduce your travel time and make sure you aren't late.

If it spawns on the left, stand between the middle and right points. If it spawns in the middle, don't go all the way to one side and hope you guessed correctly. When you're wrong, you'll be late to the real point and endanger the rest of your team who arrived on time. Guessing correctly and getting there early usually only results in 20-30% of the capture, and can isolate you for an easy kill by the enemy team. The only exception to this rule is if your team has a numbers advantage after winning a team fight, and you can split your team onto both points to ensure you start capping as soon as possible.

Stay Grouped
People have a dangerous tendency to roam off on their own in this game,. There are numerous advantages to staying together. You can focus down enemies more quickly, you're less susceptible to being picked off, and you discourage opponents due to the daunting nature of organized play. Many characters also have card effects that benefit allies, so you can miss out on buffs or heals by being alone.

Be Mindful of Your Team Composition
Even though the game only features a handful of characters right now, you can still mess up your team composition if you aren't paying attention. Primarily you need to ensure that you have someone to stand on the point or engage at close range. Even if it means last-picking every time in order to make sure your team is balanced, that's the price you'll have to pay to win more games.

Fernando is the clear king in that role, but a Buck can work in a pinch, and you can make due with a Grohk & Barik combo from time to time. If you end up with a team that's Cassie, Pip, Skye, Ruckus, and Barick, you might be in trouble when it comes to actually holding the point and holding back enemy surges.

Learn Your Cards Before the Game
It's blatantly obvious which players don't know their cards when they stop in the middle of the battlefield for 10 seconds to read each and every detail. Now it's closed beta and it's totally fine that people are learning the game. There's nothing wrong with that. But if you want to make sure you're as quick and efficient as possible, learn your cards ahead of time. Being able to select cards quickly on the fly, based on the art alone, will ensure you're in the action all the time.

Sometimes It's Smarter to Die Faster

Many people will try to stretch out their life as long as possible in scenarios of certain doom. You can actually choose a rapid death instead, starting your respawn timer a few seconds earlier and getting back to the objective that much more timely. Sometimes it'll be more advantageous to delay opponents while they're chasing you down. Start to identify the opportunities where dying faster is smarter than distracting enemies, and you'll make the most of your deaths.

Kill Siege Engines, Not People
When a siege engine is pounding on your gates, far too many people try to focus down the enemies escorting it. They are certainly contributing a lot of damage to your defenses, but they're also much harder to hit. Your attacks can be more wisely used on the siege engine itself. Spending 10 seconds trying to kill a pesky Pip could've been used to kill the siege engine five seconds earlier and saved your gate. Once the siege engine is dead, the gates become invulnerable anyway, so the opponents will have to turn tail and run. I've lost numerous games where a siege engine is at 5% health but my allies continue to wildly and inefficiently attack the enemies bouncing around next to it.

Attack the Vault
On the other side of the coin from the above tip, when you're in the enemy base and your siege engine is at their vault, you need to attack the vault door! Don't try to kill enemy heroes that are at full health standing safely above the door. Of course if an enemy at 1% walks in front of you, killing them could help keep your siege engine alive, so that won't hurt. Otherwise, just burn down the vault door! In the late-game, vaults have so little health that they can be shredded in a few seconds under dedicated fire.

Everyone is still a beginner when it comes to Paladins, so don't feel too bad if any of the above tips rang especially true for you. The game is already loads of fun, so I can't wait to see it become more competitive and challenging as the meta develops and new characters are added.

Top 10 Upcoming New MMORPGs to Look Forward to in 2016

Beside getting ready for the winter holidays, December is the month when we get to take a sneak peek into the future and see what major MMOs 2016 will bring us.

The previous year was a decent one, we saw the downfall of ArcheAge, got our hopes up again with Black Desert and a few other games and rejoiced (at least some did) at WildStar and Guild Wars 2 turning free to play. The biggest surprise, at least for me, was Blade and Soul announcement which came without any hint. Although many years had passed since the game was released in KR, there are still thousands of players waiting for it.

So let's see what major titles are to be expected next year (this list contains games that are still under heavy development so we may not see the official release in 2016, but for sure we will get more details and learn about their core features soon). Our top 10 MMOs to look for in 2016, without a particular order:

1. Lineage Eternal
2. Lost Ark
3. Bless
4. Peria Chronicles
5. Project EXA
6. Warhammer 40k Eternal Crusade
7. Star Citizen
8. ION
9. Everquest Next
10. Torchlight Mobile

As usual, take a vote after you finish reading this article :D

1. Lineage Eternal

For the second time in a row, Lineage Eternal made our Top 10 list as we hope that 2016 will be the year when we get to see it in action. Of course that we don't have any hints for a Western Release yet, but we know that NCSoft have the resources for a shorter localization process if they want to. I said "if they want to" because I see Pearl Abyss and Daum making a push for Black Desert in less than two years from the KR launch, without having any offices on this part of the globe, and then I look at NCSoft, with their established network, taking so many years to even think about launching Blade & Soul.

In 2015 there was already a small focus group test, and Inven reported a few months ago that a Global Version is in the making (global version usually means that the game can be played in different languages, English included).

For those of you who are not familiar with this project, Lineage Eternal is the next step in the hack and slash genre (you can think at something like when Diablo 3 meets the MMO genre), an open world MMORPG that is suposed to be available on PC and Mobiles.

The game had many development phases, but the core ideas are still available. The unique skill activation system (suitable for mobile users also) is still present, but they also added a hotbar skill. Unlike Diablo 3 and Torchlight II, or any other hack and slash RPG currently on the market, Lineage Eternal will focus on the MMO aspect, as hundreds of players can be in the same location at a given time.

NCSoft also decided to move away from their beloved old school questing system and developed a unique event system, similar to Guild Wars 2 one, where players can jump straight into the action on the playing field.

PvP will also play an important role in this game (Did you hear me Blizzard, PvP?), and we already saw a 4 vs. 4 Arena, but I'm more interested in the open world PvP (unconfirmed yet, or better say unseen in the previous beta test) and the Castle SIeges that made the Lineage franchise so popular.

Beside these features we should also mention: randomized dungeons, dynamic dungeons, world bosses that require more than a party to defeat them, well developed towns, cloud service for mobile users, and a new class called assassin.

2. Lost Ark

Another game that wants to shape the face of the hack and slash genre is Lost Ark.  Many of us are waiting for this title, but unfortunately, beside the small group test that took place in October 2015, we don't have any new info.

We hoped to learn more about this project at TGC 2015, but Lost Ark was present only in the B2B area so I guess they are still searching for possible publishers, beside Tencent for China (official site can be found at http://fz.qq.com/). When we talked with Smilegate about the upcoming betas and their plans for the Western market, the news weren't so grate, but I still have hopes that we will be able to play it, even if we may have to wait for 2017.

"According to the progress of development, the first Lost Ark's beta will begin in the first half of 2016 in Korea, which is followed by Chinese servers. As for western market, we don't have any plan now, and our main focus is Asian market"

I'm only going to list the most important features here, including a few new details (marked in red), but if you are interested about this project, take a look at my old Lost Ark Preview
  • 7 playable classes;
  • a non targeting combat system based on combos where players can knock down enemies or kick them into mid air in order to perform more advanced combos;
  • dynamic camera view that can show the action from different angles;
  • tripod system - allows players to specialized in different skills;
  • world map exploration - the open world will be really huge;
  • you will encounter huge creatures and you will have to battle on their back (I imagine something like Deathwing's battle from World of Warcraft);
  • developers also talked about the overall concept stating that combat is just a part of the game, the core feature beeing the adventure (exploriong a dwarf village, collecting ships, various character actions and choices);
  • interactive world with hidden areas and quests;
  • open world and field adventures;
  • an economic system with fishing, mining and logging;
  • minigames like card games, drinking games and gambling;
  • raid system;
  • cinematic dungeons;
  • "surprise mode" where players can encounter different kind of Bosses ranndomly in their dungeon adventures;
  • PvP Arenas.

3. Bless

I don't know why, but every time I write about Bless, old memories from my youth comes alive. I' m really waiting for this game, can't say I'm hyped, but it got something special, something I can't define, but it's definitely there. Sounds crazy, right, but I'm sure many of you experienced this feeling before.

I wasn't able to test it in person, but luckily we managed to get Zach Sharpes in the latest beta test and he did a great First Impression video that you shouldn't miss. You will learn about the game performance, the playable classes, the core factions, the combat and questing system, and the overall gameplay experience. So take 15 minutes to learn more about this upcoming project from the video below, as I won't talk about the game features in this article.

What I want to talk about is the time Neowiz invested in Bless Online. Nowadays we have two doomsday scenarios that tend to repeat all the time. In the first one developers are rushing to release an unfinished product just to make some quick bucks (some of them continue to develop them after release and manage to get a decent version through updates or expansion, while others just milk it until it dies), and in the second scenario we have those who are shaping and reshaping the game through several alpha and beta tests until it looks good, but it turns too casual (they want to please all the people, and they usually fail it). I saw many KR games that look way better in the early Alpha Phase than in the official release version (may be my different perception, but I feel the same for Black Desert).

I hope that Neowiz is taking their time to listen to player's feedbacks and that they don't try anything fancy to please the masses. After the last beta phase MMOCulture reported that Bless was delayed in order to fix 9 major game elements: server technology, user interface, character customization (why do developers focus on this feature so much I can't understand), quest system, and combat (movement, dungeon dificulty etc). Now we know that a new small group test will take place in December, so I assume these are just small fixes and not a completely new system.

Beside these changes, Neowiz is preparing a new race called Masku, new arenas and some challenging raid content. Follow us closely in December as we will have more details for sure.

4. Peria Chronicles

This game will be the biggest anime sandbox MMORPG up to date. Peria Chronicles will focus on user generated content and monster taming, we all love pokemons, right? The game is developed by Thinksoft, know for games like Fifa Online, Battlefield Online, so it looks like this will be their first original title, based on their in house engine.

From what we know so far, every player will find something enjoyable. You love housing? Get ready for a custom housing system with all the features you wanted, plus entire 3d shaped regions. Are you bored of the old questing system? You're lucky as developers prepared a system that lets players create their own quest chains and challenges (don't know how the rewards will be implemented, but they will find a way to balance it for sure).

Maybe you are more into creating things (like you do in let's say Minecraft). Well we got you covered as beside shaping the terrain you will be able to create an insane amount of items. You can even create your own city, set up the rules , and hire NPCs to run its stores. Of course you will need to find a way to attract other players there, but it's a start. It all depends on the economical system and your imagination.

The combat system is based on summoned creatures, each with their own unique skills and talents. Each time you defeat a monster you will have a rng chance to obtain a new summon, so be prepared for some grindy experience. You will be able to morph summons, and you will also be able to create your own party of summons, to use in battle.

Unfortunately Nexon's development team that were in charge of Pera Chronicles decided to skip GStar 2015, so we don't have any new intel about the development process. The game has a huge potential, but I will stop here as I don't want to move away from what we know so far, and start speculating. You should just keep an eye on it.

5. Project EXA

Many players were hyped when the first artworks for Project EXA were released. Even though everyone who tried Tera screamed that this will be the anticipated Tera 2 (a rumour started by a job posting), but Bluehole Studios officially rejected that info, and even stated that Tera will not have a sequel. Why that Elin looks like an improved version of what we know so far, I can't tell you.

Some say that Bluehole Studio will make a big move in 2016, but I doubt it. What we know is that they received a 13 million dollars investment back in 2014, and that they are working on a new title codenamed Project EXA since 2012 (a teaser image was released at Nexon Developer Conference in 2014).

This MMO will join the fantasy genre, so if you were hoping for a steampunk or sci-fy title, I'm sorry for you, but the gameplay will be totally different. They even hinted a new combat system like nothing we've seen so far. Really looking forward for that, as they did quite a good job with Tera's action combat. They also talked about a combination of both social and strategic features, but that was all.

I'll leave you with the pictures (you can find the entire collection here) so you can speculate about it until we get more info about this. 2016 or not, Bluehole, you now have our entire attention.

6. Warhammer 40k Eternal Crusade

Warhammer 40k is a well established franchise and Eternal Crusade will be a fully action-based Massively Online Third Person Shooter based on Unreal 4 Engine. Players will join one of the four factions available and fight against the other faction to control a persistent world tormented by war.

Eternal Crusade will be available in retail for digital purchase but a f2p option called "Free-to-Waaagh" will allow players to access the game but only as an Ork Character. There will be some features locked for the f2p users, but they will be able to unlock some of them via micro-transactions.

The game will feature territory control, and massive battles are expected to take place in order to claim ownership of different parts of the planet. Claiming this territories will allow players to customize and improve their characters through a deep progression system inspired from Warhammer 40k lore.

The action will begin with heavy vehicles and guns and will end in a a blood bath with melee weaponry. There won't be any quest givers, but you will be able to select available missions from the high command, and join a PvP battlefield or a cooperative horde map in order to finish it. Each faction will also have mid and long term opposed goals that will appear on a regular basis as part of the server wide campaign system.

There won't be any crafters, but we will be able to trade items like ammunition, health packs, etc. Weapons upgrades will also be available.

Far launch there will be a connected match experience that will simulate an open world MMO, but they may end with different servers for NA, EU, SA and RU. The game will launch in 2016 on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

7. Star Citizen

One of the largest space sim MMOs out there, Star Citizen has finally entered the Alpha 2.0 phase back in November, with more and more backers  being selected to try the latest features that the game has to offer at its current state.

There were times when I thought that this game aims too high, and that it will never see the light, but Roberts Space Industries proved me wrong. The game kept improving every day, and now they already signed a deal with famous Holywood actors like Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson and Mark Hamill for a live action movie that will be found in the campaign mode.

We can talk about Star Citizen features from now until New Years Eve, but for those that didn't really follow the thousand of updates that were released these years, I have prepared a few videos:

1. Star Citizen Alpha - Multi Crew Demo

2. Squadron 42 (The Single Player Campaign): The Morrow Tower

3. Star Citizen Constellation Trailer

If you want to find out how big the universe will be check the Stellar Map here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/starmap

Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 features:
  • eight missions including dogfighting and extra-vehicular activity;
  • more than 20 random encounters and an exploration mission;
  • one weapon-filled player vs. player battle arena;
  • a special area with an ongoing battle between pirates and security forces;
  • 12 - 16 playable ships
  • three space stations, nine repair and refueling locations and the gas giant Crusader (3 moons, asteroid belt and three stations);
  • a party system;
  • player healing;
  • mission manager and journal system.

8. ION

If you missed the announcement, here's what you're up for.

"ION is a truly-emergent massively-multiplayer online in which players will build, live in and inevitably die in player created galactic constructions. With fully simulated environments, a massive persistent galaxy and even functioning human organs, the Federation welcomes you to work for your survival on hte edge of man-mad space." Sounds about right, yes?

Well ... let's dig a little and see what happened. At E3 2014, DayZ creator Dean Hall announced his next title named ION. He called it a "simulation MMO that explores mankind's expansion into space" and said that it was inspired by Space Station 13. We will take part in humanity's first steps of colonizing the universe.

The improbable technology http://improbable.io/ allows ION to have a massive interconnected universe with fully simulated environments such as power grids, air pressure and heat, all to help stave off the unending vacuum of space. And the digging stops here as we are still waiting for more details, but developers didn't rush to detail anything yet.

ION will released first on PC and Xbox through the Xbox One Game Preview Program. When? Who knows, maybe in 2016.

9.  Everquest Next

Good old Everquest Next. Even though we hoped to see the game release in 2015, or at least learn some more about it, get into an alpha/beta phase, we are still stuck since Sony decided to sell off Sony Online Entertainment  (SOE) to an investment management firm called Columbus Nova.

Nothing has changed since our last mention (read about the core features that got us excited). Back in June Everquest Next senior producer Terry Michaels provided an update saying that they shifted their entire attention towards finishing EQN, but as you see, we are still far away.

The game was confirmed for PS4 while Daybreak was still called Sony Online Entertainment, but now we may see and Xbox One release also. The last update, if we can call it this way, was on Spetember 23, when MMORPG tried to get some new info regarding the development process, but beside a reassurence that the game is not dead or anything, they only got this:

"We'd rather show players what we're working on when it's ready, than tell them about it at a time when it's not."

So all we can do for now is wait patiently and hope that 2016 will be the year when we finally see this game in action.

10. Torchlight Mobile

Torchlight Mobile is the upcoming free to play mobile game developed by Runic Games and Fedeen Games, that received multiple awards at E3 2015, including the "Best Mobile Game".

At Gamescom there were 3 classes available: Emberblade, Engineer, and Kitsune, each of them with their unique weapon sets and skills. The controls were similar to other RPG titles, with the virtual joystick appearing at the lef side of the device, while he buttons for performing different attacks were set on the right side.

The game has many similarities with its predecessors in terms of gameplay and visual aesthetics. You will be happy to hear that you'll have pets that can carry loot and fight by your side or that the fishing system was also confirmed to return.

Torchlight Mobile features known so far are:
  • an entirely new Torchlight game with a new story and new areas to explore;
  • easily accessible free-flow gameplay with fluid, unobtrusive controls (NEW: no playtime limiting stamina system)
  • new playable races and classes exclusive to the mobile version;
  • new skill augmentation system;
  • PvP and multiplayer gameplay,
  • new collectible pets system,
  • timed challenges.
I know that we will have to wait a few more years for games like Project EXA, but I didn't want to make a mainstream list with the games that we already know everything about like Blade and Soul, Black Desert, Albion Online and others. Cya next time.

Playing Android MMO's/ MMORPG's On PC isn't A Dream

$

Many Android games require more and more demanding smartphone's performance. Have you ever thought of playing Android MMO's or MMORPG's on your PC? If the answer is yes, you couldn't miss the following tips.

With APK Downloader you can download anything from the Google Store and play it. This includes games not from the US. So now I and you after you learn how. Can play games from anywhere as long as they have a Google+ link.

#1 Download Blue Stacks and Install it

Make sure you have a Gmail account. You will need that to log into Google Play. Once there you are done, unless you want to download games from the normal library. Take note you cannot use Bitdefender and Blue Stacks together. So if you have that antivirus you need to remove it. Install Bluestacks then install Bitdefender again.

#2 Bookmark and Save APK Downloader's Site

All you need to use this site is the Google play link for said game you want to use. Just look it up whatever it is. Then find it in the Google store. When you find the game and you're at the install this game page. Save that link and post it into APK's page ahead of the already provided link data. So it's in front of the already generated link.

Here's a example of what a Google play link looks like
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asobimo.avabel_gp_b3

Click generate download and you should get the option to download the file. Now because you have Blue Stacks installed. You will see the file downloaded will look like BlueStack's icon.

#3 The Easy Part if you got this far you win

Just double click the game download and Bluestacks will auto install it. Head into Bluestacks and click the newly installed game icon. And off you go on a nice adventure in whatever game you find. This includes games from other countries as long as they have Google play links.

#4 Things you should know

Pay for games will still be pay for games. This does not eliminate the price or allow you to play them. You will still be prompted as to pay. So it's better to stick to the f2p titles.

Not every game will work for blue stacks. It's unfortunate but some just don't.
As long as you know the name of a title you can play it. But not every android title is available in the store. So other means maybe needed to get them.

Some games believe it or not are not meant to be on pc. So they memory leak to extreme measures. Even the strongest pc will not be able to play them. It's rare but I did come across a few.

Each game is different so controls will be different each game. Try to adjust yourself accordingly.

Blizzard is Hiring Global Director for eSports on Overwatch

Today, Blizzard hosted a recruitment news on its official site to hire a Global Director for eSports on Overwatch. According to the job responsibilities, the global eSports director will lead all aspects of Overwatch eSports from production and broadcast to partner negotiations. Moreover the global eSports director will also need to oversee all large-scale events, drive consistent branding across all Overwatch eSports initiatives and more.

Overwatch started its first alpha test on October 27, 2015, and it’s scheduled for official launch next spring. Overwatch will definitely fill the gaps in FPS of Blizzard, so we have reason to believe that Overwatch will become an indispensable part for Blizzard's global strategy. At this year’s Blizzcon, Jeff Kaplan, the chief developer of Overwatch, claimed that Blizzard will try its best to support eSports especially community tournaments.

Hearthstone: Top 3 Decks of Season 20

$

I can’t believe we are already into our twentieth season of Hearthstone. Over four hundred new cards and five expansions later the game is stronger than ever. It is pulling in over twenty million per month and Activision Blizzard’s stock prices have never been higher. This cash cow doesn’t look like it’s going slow down anytime soon either, with the new expansion: The League of Explorers coming up strong after two sub-par expansions: Black Rock Mountain and The Grand Tournament. Not only is it finically doing well, the meta-game is also healthy, with a plethora of diversified decks and no evidently dominate deck like Patron Warrior  at the top of the charts for months at a time. It is with this in mind that I’ve tried to tepidly corral some of the best decks so far, knowing that it could change next week with another coterie of meta-changing cards!

Freeze Mage
This is probably the strongest overall deck to play on the ladder right now. With the release of Reno Jackson, this deck has seen a renascence, providing it with another “in case of emergency break glass” card. Reno Jackson has completely changed how many of us think of this game; making once perceived unviable cards playable thanks to Reno significantly slowing down the game. And there is no deck that takes advantage of Reno better than the Freeze Mage, with cards like Ice Block, staying alive has never been so easy and setting up huge wombo-combo plays has never been so fun!

Good Against

This is the top deck this season because it’s favorable against the majority of the field. Favorable, isn’t the right word, this deck straight up destroys archetypes, usually making the opponent feel like they never had chance! Some of the most popular decks in the meta right now are Secret Paladin, Dragon Priest, and Tempo Mage and none of those archetypes stand a chance against Freeze Mage. Cards like Frost Nova, Forgotten Torch, and the Doomsayer allow the Freeze Mage to stay in the game and if you ever get in a pinch good ol’ Reno Jackson can help save the day, brining you back up to full health. The Freeze Mage sanguinely perseveres, slowly biding its time so that it can set up a huge play that usually consists of Pyroblasting the opponents face off!

Bad Against
Druids and Warriors feast on this schizophrenic deck making you feel like that person that never had a chance. Druids have the ability to drop devastatingly strong minion’s early, making cards like the Doomsayer mute against them. Warriors on the other hand, don’t drop anything, doing to you what the Freeze Mage does to everyone else: biding its time until it can drop a massive wombo-combo on your face.

Secret Paladin
One of the only good things to come out of The Grand Tournament was the Secret Paladin. It was a completely new archetype that kept getting stronger; starting off as purely aggressive deck to then transform into what we know and “love” today.  I mean, who doesn’t love snowballing the opponent into the ground with cards like Muster for Battle? What’s that, you don’t like a start-to-finish shellacking? How about watching the opponent wither in despair as you consecutively drop a Dr. Boom and Tirion Fordring on them late game?

Good Against

If I had to guess, this deck probably has a 50-60% win rate against the field. It dominates few decks (Control Warrior) while also not getting completely owned by most others. It is a great middle of the road choice that will meddle around in the upper tier ranks while dominating the lower tier.

Bad Against
Aggressive decks that can get an early start and build off it precipitously will always give the Secret Paladin problems. Secretkeeper is the only 1-drop minion in the deck and it usually isn’t enough to stop onslaught. If you’re seeing a lot of aggro on ladder take out a Blessing of Kings and add in another Consecration.

Aggro Shaman
Aggro Shaman has always been a deck that has fluxtuated in and out of the meta. Traditionally, it is a deck that has not been able to sustain long periods of dominance because of its lack of early game minions. Cards like Zombie Chow and the Totem Golem were what the early game hinged on, and its negative overload and heal effect ultimately nullified their usefulness. The Tunnel Trogg changes all that by giving Shamans a solid 1-drop card that doesn’t heal and that combos off of the once negatively perceived overload mechanic.

Good Against

This is my favorite deck to play on ladder right now with it absolutely dominating the most popular archetypes. Midrange decks are the Aggro Shamans specialty; releasing a powerful early game onslaught the opponent can never recover from. If all you’re seeing is midrange then this is the deck for you, replacing the hobbled hunter as pro favorite for an aggressive archetype.

Bad Against
Ironically, this decks largest weakness is greatest strength: aggression. Decks that are able to flood the board or control the early stages of the game play favorably against the Aggro Shaman. Watch out for Zoolock and Tempo Mage, the two most popular archetypes that successively beat this deck.

Hearthstone Arena Matchups: Shaman

$
0
0

Welcome to Arena Matchups series! In this installment, we’ll explore strategies against Warlocks in the Arena. Matchup knowledge might seem less important in the Arena than in constructed, since players don’t have consistent access to the most powerful cards and strategies. However, it’s crucial to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the classes, and know how your opponent’s class aims to win. Armed with this knowledge, you can play to your own strengths and pummel your opponent where they’re most vulnerable. This time I’ll cover the Shaman matchup.

Shaman in Arena

Shaman is considered to be average in arena whose performance is highly dependent on draft. Shaman has some of the strongest removals in the game with cards like Hex, Rockbiter and Fire Elemental. These are the cards which you should fear the most when facing shaman in arena. However what brings shaman down is that his hero power is very random and weak compared to other classes. On top of that shaman suffers from inconsistency in not only the hero power but also spells like Crackle and minions like Fireguard Destroyer. All things considered shaman with the right draft can be very deadly.

Strengths

Strong removal: Shaman has the most efficient removal in the game - Hex. Hex provides a huge tempo swing not only by killing the minion but also silencing it. Besides shaman also has access to Fire Elemental which provides a huge tempo swing and puts a big threat on the board. On top of these shaman also has ton of decent removals which are decent or good like Lightning Bolt, Crackle, Rockbiter Weapon and others. To counter this you want to drop sticky minions with deathrattles because that is shaman’s weakness.  Furthermore when coming into opponent’s turn make sure you don’t have a minion with 3 health so opponent doesn’t get too much value by using FIre Elemental.

Strong Minions: Shaman has some good class minions which he can pick up most notable ones are Fireguard Destroyer which is an amazing 4 drop as he kills almost all 4 and 5 mana minions if Fireguard  gets the right rng. Even in the worst case scenario 3/6 for 4 mana and 1 overload isn’t too bad considering a Fen Creeper is 3/6 for 5 mana. Another notable minion is Flametongue Totem which synergises with shaman’s hero power very well allowing for Totem Call to spawn 2/2 totems instead of 0/2 minions. Of course Flametongue Totem value highly depends on how well your opponent positioned his minions.. Whirling Zapo- Matic may not seem too strong on the first look, however sometimes you won’t have an immediate answer to it and Zappo will put too much pressure on your face.

Weaknesses

Lack of board clear: Shaman’s only board clears are Elemental Destruction - which is an epic so you will rarely see it and Lighting Storm which is random and overloads the shaman. So as you can see shaman doesn’t have a reliable board clear besides Lighting Storm. That means that the best way to play against a shaman is to flood the board with small minions and tempo the shaman out.

Overload: A mechanic which was designed to make shaman a tempo class who basically steals next turn’s mana crystals to use them on this turn. However in arena most of the time overload will mess the mana curve up and even though shaman gains a tempo swing on one turn it will be easily regained on the following turn.

Shaman hero power

Many consider shaman’s hero power to be the worst in arena. That is because it is inconsistent and the totems themselves don’t impact the game almost at all so let’s look at each totem you can get by using Totem Call. Searing Totem is a 1/1 which is decent because it is also same as Paladin’s hero power. The Healing Totem is very conditional. To effectively make use of Healing Totem you need a board advantage and if you have it you’re already in a pretty good spot anyway so your hero power achieves almost nothing. Wrath of Air Totem is a lot like Healing Totem because most of the time shaman won’t have spells therefore he won’t utilise the Wrath of Air Totem efficiently and it will just be a 0/2 totem on the board. The last one you can get is Stoneclaw Totem which is arguably the best one mostly because it is so annoying to deal with. It can block some favourable trades and allows shaman to keep fighting for the board.

December 31, 2015 Is the Last Day You Can Play Hellgate

As simple as the title says, the horror shooter Hellgate is shutting down its global servers on December 31st, 2015. The closing announcement was posted kinda early on October 20th, 2015 but thanks to massivelyop, I just got noticed about that game sunsetting. Reasons behind the service closure is not hard to tell - the game publisher T3Fun didn't make money to make it survive.

In-game cash shop has already been disabled since Oct 7, 2015 and servers will be up until December 31, 2015. Oh well, say goodbye to Hellgate, another game added in the shutdown list.

On the other hand, if you are interested in the Hellgate IP, it is said that the Hellgate VR version is in development, planning to launch in 2016.

Paladins: Champions of the Realm Maps Preview

There are five different maps in Paladins now. In each map, players' goal is destroying the opposing team's base. They have to capture the engine, escort the siege weapon to opposing HQ and finally destroy enemies' base.

Temple Ruins

This map has a mirrored layout and is designed for 2 teams of 5 players. It features 3 Control Points. The bases are located at opposite ends of the map. Each base has a vault and two gates with turrets defending it.

The objective of this game mode is to destroy the enemy team's vault gate to win. Both gates and the vault are invulnerable unless a Siege Engine is attacking them. Siege engines are spawned by capturing the current active point. To capture a point members of a team must stand in it until their team's counter is full. After a siege engine is destroyed, the capture point is reset and locked, and a new one will be unlocked.

ELOA: Elite Lord of Alliance Review

$

0
After renowned titles like Flyff, Rappelz, or MU Online, Webzen is back on the front of the free-to-play MMORPG stage with the arrival of ELOA: Elite Lord of Alliance. If this MMO vaguely reminds you of another title that was recently in the spotlight, it's because ELOA had already emerged in the west under the name of Inspirit Online, considered as an illegal copy of the Korean game. That aside, with a rather interesting customization, a consistent content, high color graphics and an especially well-honed gameplay that should appeal to all fans of hack slash, ELOA has pretty good chances of earning its own spot in the market.

Uneventful Adventure In A Stunning World
Unfortunately, we have to start with a negative point: the plot of ELOA: Elite Lord of Alliance. Indeed, the scenario is very basic, since it boils down, unsurprisingly for the genre, to confrontation between good and evil. Players will start their adventure on the grounds of Epheia, where a war against ogres is bringing ruin to the world. While they do their jobs well enough, the dialogues are stale and are just excuses to go to kill monsters in the chain or go to meet another NPC. As a knight, your role will be to determine the origin of this uprising, and put a stop it before it gets out of hand. It all starts with the creation of a character, like any self-respecting MMORPG. Customization-wise, there are fairly standard classes, namely the Knight of Blood, Mage, Sniper, Assassin Warrior, and Psychic. One slightly distressing "flaw", if we may call it that, is that the Assassin Warrior class can only be embodied by the Naru race and is exclusively female. The last step will involve customizing your character with various aesthetic elements: the whole is not very thorough, but should still please the fans.

Once your character is created and selected, you can finally start your game, only to arrive in a war zone where ogres attacking a fortress. Acting as a tutorial, the next few quests will allow you to learn about the main game mechanics. However, the first thing that jumps out is the graphics displayed by ELOA: Elite Lord of Alliance. The set up is based on a manga style with shades of colors that turn out particularly successful. Furthermore, a great deal of immersion is to be expected, and you should take great pleasure in running through the different environments. However, one can only regret the inability to move the view point of the character, the game using a fixed camera system. We are limited to a system of zooms, making the navigation somewhat easy, at least initially. Furthermore, when playing the game for the first time, you might want to take the time to change the settings and shortcuts that are not necessarily intuitive. Which brings us to our next point, and probably the best aspect of ELOA, the gameplay.

Dynamic Encounters
The whole point of ELOA: Lord of Elite Alliance is its combat system. And it will not take you more than two minutes before experiencing your first clashes and be convinced by its gameplay. It is dynamic, vibrant even. The system is very pleasing, since it connects the attacks at great speed, while dodging those caused by your opponents feel especially rewarding. Suffice to say that encounters with enemies can be a lot of fun, especially since each class has three weapons and just as many skill sets to switch between at all times, allowing them to deal with every possible situation imaginable. For example, in the case of the Psychic, one skill set will allow you to heal and support allies, while another provides you with abilities allowing you to root and debuff enemies. The most interesting part is that unlike other games offering a similar gameplay experience, ELOA allows you to switch between these different weapons in combat as well. Needless to say that PvP-wise, you'll never know what to expect.

In any case, as in any self-respecting MMORPG, you will gain experience points as you complete quests and defeat monsters, allowing to go to the discovery of new areas, experience the joys of dungeons or compete against other players through the PvP system. We will return course on all these aspects in detail. For now, we will look at character progression, which works like any other MMORPG. You can customize your character with different pieces of equipment, and skills you unlock at level 10 and above. However, what is more interesting than usual is the extent to which you can customize the skills, in the same vein as the MOBA Heroes of the Storm. In other words, you can, for example, for a given skill, reducing its cast time, at the cost of dealing lesser damage, or increase its damage at the cost of a higher mana usage. In short, it allows different players to adapt their characters better to their vision of the game.

Gotta hatch 'em all
Another concept often present in MMORPGs is the presence of familiars/pets, these little creatures that accompany you around your adventures. ELOA: Elite Lord of Alliance does not shirk from the rule, and proposes a system that is both classic and innovative. First, the familiar is obtained from an egg is gained by completing quests, killing monsters or bought from merchants. Once hatched, it will offer you some statistics bonuses, in addition to some of them having the ability of being used as mounts and allowing you to move faster. These creatures can consume others to gain experience points and levels, and once they have reached the maximum level, they can be combined to form an even more powerful creature.

Well-established content
Regarding the content, ELOA: Elite Lord of Alliance also has nothing to ashamed, since it provides many features that should hold your interest for a long time. Besides the collection of pets, you will be entitled to a relatively simple crafting system, based on four professions, namely alchemy, weaponsmith, armorsmith and accessory crafting. Nothing really pushed, players being prompted as usual to gather the materials before traveling to the relevant NPC and crafting the item. Of course, the most interesting remains the PvE and PvP systems that perform pretty well for such a saturated genre. With a good number of dungeons, to be completed solo or with a party, the game will often provide you with PvE content to conquer.

Conclusion
ELOA: Elite Lord of Alliance is a MMORPG relying primarily on its gameplay, setting aside any hope of a developed storyline. Therefore, do not expect a spectacular plot. In the same vein, quests without real interest and "Monster Bashing" are two other arguments that go into the ELOA of disfavor. Conversely, this same "Monster Bashing" might just be the most fun you've had playing a MMO of the same genre in the recent years. With a truly dynamic combat system and a deep character progression, the title surely distinguishes itself. Furthermore, the overall aesthetics and stability of the game should make it much more appealing. In conclusion, ELOA: Elite Lord of Alliance is not necessarily a breathtaking title, but it remains a good MMORPG that shines by its relatively pushed content.
