Is League of Masters evolving mobile RPGs?

$

0

Trying to make a AOS out of an RPG isn't an easy task. There were others before this one such as Eternal Arena, but none seem to gain over 1 million downloads, except this one. So let's dive into what makes League of Masters different from the other games in this same genre.

The login screen is simple, blocky, and slightly animated. Your information is organized, and all of the buttons are responsive and fluid. Some mobile games don't give you the organization you need on a home screen, they opted for a more appealing effect rather than organization which I personally find deterring.

As I started questing I noticed that the levels are very similar, basically every level is only one room large. This makes for very fast loading times but a very monotonous grinding environment. Although yes the rooms change slightly as you progress through the storyline, that's not enough, and I found it way too linear to keep my attention longer than 4 days.

As I dove into the PvP aspect of the game I realized there are two options. The first option is their so called arena, which basically puts your Champions AI against my Champions AI in a 3v3 duel. The second option I had to be at least level 40 to partake in, which means spending money on XP boosting, or grinding for about 2 weeks, (which that game was way too boring to grind.)

But here is what kept me for the additional 3 days after the first. I was able to equip my champions with armor and weapons that had various effects which allowed the most customization in any game this style. You'll find that you have a lot of Champions to choose from, but acquiring them is a very hard task. After 20 hours, I still only had the three original champions that the game set for me. That's a definite sign of money hungry developers, I urge you to watch out, this game might not have a long future because of that.

Let's talk about the AOS part of the game. Mainly you will be playing against bots that vary in level which affects their damage potential throughout the match. Your equipment rating and player level determines how much power you possess during the match. You can choose from three different maps to play on but when you advance to lvl 40, the game finally becomes competitive. Since your equipment varies from person to person and champion to champion you will never see two heroes the same. Although aesthetically, the heroes don't change, you can feel the difference on the battlefield.

So here's two questions that I would love to answer for you.

1: Will this game entertain me?
  • Yes it will, but the level and skill gaps in this game are humongous, and I don't see this game lasting longer than a year. Of course you're going to find a small community that will keep this game alive but the potential of this game ever being top 10 is not there.

2: Should I download this game?
  • That only depends if you already have an RPG or AOS game already installed on your phone. If you do, you'll find yourself bouncing between both games but leaving this game behind because of the lack of community. If the time it takes to actually start playing the game, doesn't get you first.

Top 5 Evie Tips for Paladins Beginners

$

0

Paladins has been rapidly changing throughout its closed beta, so it's very hard for new players to keep up. If you're still trying to get the hang of the game's newest character Evie, here are some tips that will make you feel more at home with the wintery witch's mechanics and playstyle.

Aim at the Ground
One of the easiest mistakes to make with Evie is trying to hit targets directly with your standard attacks. The projectile has an awkward travel time and rhythm, making it very difficult to nail people square in the body. Thankfully it also features a sizable area of effect that does splash damage to anything nearby its impact point. That means you can aim it at the ground near an opponent's feet to more reliably do damage to them, and sometimes even hit multiple targets. If you try to shoot people directly, typically your snow balls of doom will go flying by and dissipate without ever making contact. Aiming at the ground ensures that they'll explode and give you much better accuracy on average.

Use Your Illusions for Cover, Not Just Damage

Evie's illusions can definitely do a lot of damage, but that's not the only way in which they're useful. You can also cast them between you and opponents and actually weave between them with your movement, hoping to catch enemy fire on a clone instead of yourself. This can functionally increase your health pool by splitting damage onto your copies, and also frustrate opponents who are never quite sure who they're shooting at any given time. Getting the hang of standing behind your illusions and using them for cover will make you much peskier and threatening, as you increase your survivability and in turn pump out additional damage.

Blink for Positioning and to Remove Debuffs
Far too many people just use Blink as an escape mechanism in combination with Soar. It's fine for making a quick getaway, but that's not the only way it's helpful. You can also use it for positional advantages in fights. Quick blinks behind an opponent can really disorient them and give you the informational upper-hand. You can also engage opponents at more favorable or unpredictable angles if you use it creatively. Also take note that it removes debuffs. Sometimes popping it just to get rid of a daze effect or a slow will be well worth it.

Take Advantage of Your Verticality

Evie is the only character in the game that can effectively move vertically. Soar allows you to go up and down and all around. If you're not using it to gain the upper ground more readily and more easily, you're wasting it. Being higher up makes it easier to land your weapon attacks, and can really cause chaotic distress among the enemy team. That's especially true if you fly up into their base and wreak havoc on the back line where they expected to remain safe at all times. You can also fly to the top of certain pillars or other hard-to-reach areas for a surprising position or advantageous angle.

Select Cards for Illusions
Evie isn't the strongest character at her base level. She has a weak health pool and doesn't output all that much damage by herself. To really get the most out of the character, you need to utilize your illusions well, and you need to spawn as many as possible. Choosing cards that meet those goals will make it much easier on you, as they do lots of passive damage, and increase your survivability to boot.

Evie is one of the game's most unique and exciting characters to play. The sound effects are rewarding, flying is ridiculously fun, and killing people with illusions is wonderful. She's also got the coolest visual design in the game, and a fantastic voice actor to keep you engaged. Combine all that with a skilled player, and you might just have the game's best character!

The 10 Best 1-Mana Cards in Hearthstone

$

When you're a new player, identifying the best cards at each mana slot can be a real challenge. Cards that seem good at first might never be played, while cards that look average are actually quite strong. Since you need to have a good curve and a balanced collection, figuring out the game's best cards at each mana cost is actually quite important.

This video covers the 10 most impactful cards that cost 1-mana. These might not be heavy-hitting legendary minions that win games in amazing fashion, but the right card at the start of a game can still lead you towards victory. Adding these cards to your collection will ensure that you have strong openers for your deck, and are able to fit into various metas without missing a key component.

It's a lot of fun looking at cards at specific mana costs, because you can really compare and contrast their strengths and weaknesses. If you think I missed a 1-mana card that's downright amazing, please let me know! I like these 10 of course, but everyone has different opinions when it comes to card quality and importance. If you're happy with my choices this time, stop by when I tackle the 2-mana cards and I'm forced to cut a bunch of great cards.

Blade & Soul (CN) to Sell $60 Cash Shop Wings; Should NA Version Also Get Wings?

$

Blade & Soul’s Chinese version will start selling wings in cash shop in mid-December. The price has been confirmed to be $60 for each one. Wings are pure cosmetic item so they won’t allow you to fly or give you any buff. I’m not sure if there will be less expensive wings in the future.

Altough wings look weird in Blade & Soul, they are popular cosmetic items in many Korean MMORPGs. I think if the community request, NCsoft West will also sell wings in the NA/EU version. As a matter of fact, the Chinese version will also have pets. I don’t think it’s bad idea to introduce these content to the western versions, as long as they stay cosmetic items.

Do you think B&S NA/EU version should get cash shop wings? Take your vote.

Take a look at some of the wings that are coming to the Chinese version below.

Armored Warfare Teases a New Legendary Tank for All Players

My.com recently teased a new trailer for Armored Warfare, the team-based action MMO tank game. The new trailer teased a legendary tank that many covet but few obtained until now. "For the old generation of tank games, it was legendary and impossible to get. For the new generation tank game, it's our free gift to all players".  Yes, it will be a gift tank available for free this holiday season.

It seems that the new tank will be the Type 59, which is nearly impossible to get in World of Tanks (very expensive), another tank game owned by Wargaming. However, Armored Warfare is giving it away to all players. A bit ironic huh? You play both of the two games? What do you think?

We reported Tree of Savior is getting dedicated Southeast Asian server last week but it turned out it's not true, at least not now. ToS developer imcGames just confirmed to MMO Culture that ToS SEA version was "somewhat different from what is true" with telling further details of what exactly happened between the developer and the SEA publisher. However, imcGames did mention to provide a revised announcement on this soon.

The official page Playone Asia put online last week

Currently Playone Asia has taken down the Tree of Savior SEA version content at their site along with Echo of Soul and Dungeon Fighter Online's. Not sure if the 3 games are connected or not.

Marvel Heroes 2015 New End-Game Mode: The Danger Room FAQ

$
0
0
Marvel Heroes 2015 released a new end-game mode called "The Danger Room". Gazillion Entertainment revealed a FAQ for players to have a preview of the mode.

What is Danger Room?
Danger Room is an all-new endgame activity featuring randomized levels, missions, bosses, hazards, and region-wide modifiers that make each and every run feel different from the last! Danger Room Scenarios, a new type of item drop, can be used to create instanced, multi-stage simulations for you to explore, completing objectives and clearing your way to the boss.

How do I enter Danger Room?
A brand-new hub has been created specific for the Danger Room, featuring Danger herself (as voiced by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn). This hub features a new crafter, vendor, and has powers enabled, much like the Training Room. It is created unique for each party, so you won’t see other players unless you invite them to your group. You can access this hub via Waypoint on any level 60 hero.

Where do I get Danger Room Scenarios?
Once you reach level 60 (or switch to an existing level 60 hero), Beast will send you a remote notification asking you to meet him in the Danger Room hub area. Speak with Beast and he'll grant you a training Scenario where Danger will run you through the basics of Danger Room simulations. Once you complete this training Scenario, Beast will reward you with some additional Scenarios to get you started.

Scenarios will also drop from anywhere in the world as random loot. Common Scenarios can additionally be crafted through Danger using any two Pure Elements, and any two Scenarios can be combined to produce a new random Scenario of the next highest rarity. Furthermore, successfully completing any Scenario will earn you a new randomly rolled one, allowing you to endlessly run Scenarios if desired, without having to stop to craft or find new ones. We may add additional means to obtain scenarios in future updates, but these are the current means of acquiring Scenarios at launch.

Are Scenarios one-time use?
Scenarios are consumed upon use when in the Danger Room hub area and will create a portal to the simulation, similar to the portals to Bovineheim.

Why are they only one-time use?
The nature of the Danger Room is randomization and overcoming a challenging combination of affixes in exchange for a higher reward. If these scenarios were not consumed on use, once a combination that was relatively low in difficulty but high in yield for your build or character was discovered, there’d be no purpose to running any other scenarios, which goes against the idea of risk vs reward. Having one low-risk, high-yield scenario roll every now and then is great and exciting, but if that was the case all of the time, the mode would end up feeling repetitive.

Are there Unique scenarios?
The first Unique Scenario will not be made available immediately at launch, to ensure that there are no major outstanding issues with Danger Room Scenarios before it becomes accessible. Once that is established we’ll enable the first Unique Scenario as a very rare random drop. Be prepared for a very, very challenging fight should you find it. Since these scenarios are much more difficult to acquire, if you do attempt one and find yourself unable to complete it, the Scenario will be returned to you, ready to be attempted again.

How many possible affixes on a Scenario are there?
Up to 5 affixes can roll on the hardest (Cosmic) Scenarios. Each rarity below that will roll one less affix, so the craziest combinations are reserved for the most difficult scenarios.

Will I be able to boss-rush or is there some incentive to defeat enemies in a Scenario?
Every mission within a scenario has a primary objective which varies per simulation, as well as an overall progress meter which is displayed at the top of the screen. Completing the primary objective will award orbs which grant a significant amount of progress towards completion when picked up, and the remaining progress must be achieved by defeating enemies. Once the progress meter is filled, the simulation will be considered complete and you will be able to advance to the next simulation.

What are Merits?
Merits are a new currency added to Danger Room, which will be earned at the end of a run based on how difficult the Scenario was.

What can Merits be spent on?
Merits can be exchanged with Danielle Moonstar - the Danger Room Rewards Vendor - for a variety of items, such as Mysterious Crimson Boxes, Mysterious Blue Boxes, Cosmic Team-Up Gear Boxes, and more. Danger Room will drop loot separately, but this is to ensure that your time is well spent by acting as “insurance” that you’ll get the type of drop you’re looking for.

How are rewards determined?
The number of Merits and the quality of loot you receive at the end are based on several factors:
Rarity - Higher rarity scenarios are naturally more difficult, and yield more Merits:
  • Common (White) - 10 Merits
  • Uncommon (Green) - 20 Merits
  • Rare (Blue) - 30 Merits
  • Epic (Purple) - 50 Merits
  • Cosmic (Yellow) - 90 Merits
Survival - In each scenario, if the players complete it without hitting a defeat limit displayed at the top of the UI, an additional chest will appear with more loot and more Merits:
  • Common (White) - 5 Bonus Merits
  • Uncommon (Green) - 10 Bonus Merits
  • Rare (Blue) - 20 Bonus Merits
  • Epic (Purple) - 40 Bonus Merits
  • Cosmic (Yellow) - 60 Bonus Merits
Affixes - Affixes that are not beneficial will add additional Merits to the reward. The amount of bonus Merits that will be awarded will be calculated based on the specific combination of affixes on that Scenario, and will be listed in the Scenario’s tooltip.

Is there a defeat counter?
A defeat counter does exist for each Scenario, but unlike raids, this defeat counter will not cause heroes to fail the scenario if they are defeated enough times. Instead, an extra reward chest will appear at the end of the Scenario if the heroes were able to complete it without being defeated a certain number of times.

How is difficulty determined?
Enemy health and damage is determined by the Scenario’s rarity. The higher the rarity, the higher the enemy level. The affixes rolled on the Scenario do not directly modify the health or damage of enemies, but can affect them in others ways, making the Scenario organically more difficult.

Can Danger Room be played solo or in a group?
Danger Room Scenarios can be run solo or with up to 5 players. The difficulty will scale accordingly, similar to other game modes.

Note that once you progress beyond the first simulation within the Scenario, using the Bodyslider to leave the simulation will close the Scenario. You will receive a prompt informing you of this if you attempt to activate the Bodyslider within a Scenario.

When playing in a group, once you have progressed beyond the first simulation in the Scenario, other members of your group will not be able to use the Teleport function to join you within the Scenario. Make sure your entire group is at your side before the first simulation is completed to ensure all members of the group are able to continue.

Do I need to have the best gear in the game to enjoy Danger Room? If I do have the best gear, will I still find Danger Room fun?
The lowest rarity Scenarios (Common) can be run as soon as you hit level 60 with fresh gear, and are tuned to be relatively low in difficulty. Adversely, the highest rarity Scenarios (Unique & Cosmic) can be incredibly difficult, challenging, and rewarding, even for the most geared players.

Are there unique rewards?
Yes, there are a variety of exclusive X-Men themed rewards purchasable from Danielle Moonstar in exchange for Merits, which are only obtainable by playing Danger Room Scenarios.

What level do I have to be to play Danger Room Scenarios?
Danger Room is an endgame-only activity, available for all level 60 heroes.

Will you continue to add new scenarios?
Definitely!

Will Scenarios be tradeable?
Scenarios will not be tradeable to other players. We’ve opted instead to make Scenarios easy to acquire through crafting in addition to random drops and Scenario completion rewards, rather than introduce Scenarios into the player trading economy.

Will there be new Achievements launching with Danger Room?
Yes! With the launch of Danger Room, 36 new Achievements related to Danger Room Scenarios will be available.

Will Legendary Quests send you to Danger Room at launch?
Not currently planned, though, pending community feedback, definitely possible.

How will events affect Danger Room?
We’re still working out the details of that for future events, but suffice to say, going forward Danger Room will be fully integrated with as many game systems as possible.
