NCsoft On Controversy of Blade & Soul Employee's Taking of Popular In-Game Names

$

0
Blade & Soul allows players who have preordered the game to reserve their names ahead of the launch. However, player reported on B&S subreddit that the game's GM grabbed 7 popular names such as Naruto and Saber before the start of name reservation. This Reddit thread has generated over 400 comments so NCsoft responds through different channels.

It may be unfair but seems to be normal thing to happen, as Omeed, NCsoft's Director of Community and Social tweets"Employees almost always get to choose their names early. I'm not sure why anyone chose specific names."

On the other thread at bladeandsouldojo.com, the game's Brand Manager Julianne Harty explains that the purpose of GM securing popular names is to prevent these names from selling for money by players.

Shady people sell popular names. To me, that’s more unfair than losing out on the lottery for the name that you want, because someone has come in and reserved a name specifically so that they can earn money on it. You want a definition of pay to win? THAT is it right there – a person paying $400 just to have Naruto and bypassing the lottery system. We have, in the past, reserved popular names in order to prevent this sort of shady stuff from happening. I can’t speak for Youmukon right now, since I’m on the road, but it’s highly possible that this is a scenario that is occurring and that the names will be released later on in a more fair manner that prevents this sort of account/name selling. This is not uncommon; its just unfortunate that we have the character lookup so you can see a lot of the inner workings of the game being prepared for launch.

The B&S gamemaster the thread talks about is known as Youmukon in the internet, and he defends at Twitter that "I don't really care about what people think frankly or I wouldn't be doing this job ><".

What do you think of this? Some suggest that if NCsoft has to avoid popular names being sold for money, they should lock down those names instead of letting GMs have them. And some think GMs should have prefix on their names such as GM_Naruto and so. So, your opinions?

Developed by My.comJuggernaut Wars is a hot new fantasy RPG for Android and iOS mobile platforms is launching this February. Juggernaut Wars features dynamic combat systems and is playable in short sessions, allowing for the convenience to fight anytime, anywhere. Players will assemble a team of their favorite heroes and return to explore the fascinating world of Haradan - a world familiar to fans of its predecessor " Juggernaut: Revenge of Sovering", the multi-million download RPG hit from 2012.

The world of Haradan has fallen in turmoil and a devastating civil war has further divided its two factions: the League and the Cohort. The ruler of the last city that was capable of keeping peace, disappears under violent and suspicious circumstances. Only the player’s team of heroes can journey the predatory wastelands and woodlands to unravel its mysteries and use cunning and speed in battle to restore order to Haradan.

Key features:

·Set in the legendary universe of Juggernaut: Revenge of Sovering.

·Choose your own “dream team” from a vast roster of fearless heroes, each with their own unique abilities. Collect and enchant weapons to enhance their combat effectiveness and further customize their characters.

·Fast paced strategic combat, presented on a diverse set of colorful battlefields presented in gorgeous 3D graphics

·A multitude of game modes including: a full story Campaign, PvP with epic wars between clans and Trials in which players work together with friends to defeat special monsters in the dangerous world fights.

There will be three different 'modes' available in this game, with one being the standard campaign style mode, one being PvP based, and the final one being a mode called Trials where players team up together to defeat special monsters in 'world fights'. What's interesting is that the developers are labeling this a MOBA as well as an Action-RPG, which would indicate some sort of MOBA-style PvP. Of course they could be using the term completely wrong, we will just have to wait and see.

Talent Guide - *Ganker* Shadow Greymane by RegisKillbin

Greymane has arrived in the Nexus, and he's a real challenge to figure out when it comes to talents and play-style. There are a lot of viable talent choices, but you'll need to figure out how you want to play Greymane before selecting them. I have a suggestion!

Greymane really thrives as a ganking character that doesn't have to overcommit to engagements. He lacks sustain, and has great ways to disengage, which makes him perfect for jumping on enemies for quick kills, as long as you build him correctly. The video below proposes my Shadow Greymane build that will make you the ultimate ganker.

For your convenience, I've also broken down the talent choices by level below.

LvlIconNameTooltip
1WolfheartWhile Inner Beast is active, each Basic Attack lowers its cooldown by 1 second.
4Eyes in the DarkDisengage grants Stealth for 4 seconds.
7Wizened DuelistHero takedowns increase Basic Attack damage by 3%, to a maximum of 30%. This bonus is lost on death.
10Marked for the Kill [R]Shapeshift into a Human and fire a shot hitting the first enemy Hero for 68 damage. For 5 seconds, they are Vulnerable, taking 25% more damage, and you can re-activate this to leap at them and shapeshift into a Worgen.
13Running WildIncreases Darkflight and Disengage's range by 35%.
16Alpha KillerWorgen Basic Attacks against Heroes deal bonus damage equal to 3% of the Hero's maximum Health.
20Tooth and ClawWorgen Basic Attacks cleave for 4% damage.

Only time will tell if Greymane is actually competitively viable, but one thing is certain: he's a ton of fun. This build will make you a thing of nightmares for unprepared opponents, which is exactly what the game's "werewolf" character should be doing. Now get out there and gank your way to victory with Greymane!

The 10 Best Druid Cards in Hearthstone

$

Druid is a class that has always relied on its class cards in a major way thanks to ramp elements and its big combo. Unfortunately there are a lot of Druid cards that are absolutely terrible as well. New players who are looking to craft Druid cards might have trouble telling the difference. To figure out which ones you should value when building decks, a little guidance might be necessary.

Check out the video below to hear my thoughts on the very best class cards Druid has available. You might be surprised by some of my later choices, but the top few cards are almost undebatable in their importance to the class.

Druid has been a powerful and compelling class for a very long time thanks to those cards, so if you're new, focus on acquiring and playing them as much as you can! If you're a veteran, what's your favorite Druid card? Which one do you think is most important to the class. I'd love to hear your thoughts, particularly if I missed any cards you think deserve to be on the list.

5 Ways Duelyst is Better Than Hearthstone

$

If you haven't heard of Duelyst, it's a new take on the card dueling genre, combining games like Hearthstone, Final Fantasy Tactics, and even Chess into a uinified masterpiece. If Hearthstone has you down, you may end up enjoying the stunning visuals and more complex gameplay that Duelyst has to offer.

I'm not telling you that Duelyst is strictly better than Hearthstone overall, but there are a few things in particular that it does better. You might find an enjoyable alternative in Duelyst, especially if the following improvements look appealing to you.

Better for Free-to-Play Players
Hearthstone has reached a point where it's very difficult for new players to catch up on cards. There are multiple expansions, and none of them have been reduced in price. Hearthstone also has a very wide gap between free basic decks and top-tier decks, meaning a new player with basic cards will never have a chance to compete at the top of the ranked ladder.

Duelyst's basic decks are actually somewhat competitive, and will allow you to climb reasonably well on the ranked ladder. There are fewer cards to acquire as well, meaning there's less barrier to entry in regards to your card collection. Even the packs themselves are more rewarding when it comes to rarities. Combine all those elements, and Duelyst is far more accessible to new players or free-to-play players.

Incredible Visuals
Hearthstone's visuals are great at doing what they're meant to do, but they're not "remarkable" or "beautiful" by any stretch of the imagination. Hearthstone could better be described as "homely," while Duelyst is downright gorgeous. The colors are vibrant and inspiring, the "boards" are living and engaging, and the characters are pixel-perfect for conveying their personality and function. Even the subtle animations and art design are top-notch.

Duelyst is simply a fun game to watch. Discovering new cards becomes doubly rewarding when you get to see the actual characters in-game, moving and breathing and fighting. You can tell every single element has been lovingly crafted and it all comes together for a stunning world despite its simplicity.

Less Randomness Deciding Games
One of the biggest problems plaguing Hearthstone are the random factors deciding games. It's such a big emphasis in Blizzard's core design philosophy for the game, that many people are turned off and feel like they don't control their fates. You lose to RNG, and you win from RNG, which reduces the actual impact you're having on your success. That can be extremely frustrating when you're running poorly.

Duelyst, on the other hand, has far fewer random elements in its design. There are still some, of course, but they aren't as important or impactful, so they feel like compelling strategic risks instead of game-deciding RNG. Minions don't do crazy things in random ways, and even card draw has reduced randomness thanks to the fact that you can swap out a card every turn or choose to keep your hand. Winning in Duelyst always feels like you earned it, and losing feels like you deserved it.

More Strategic Depth
Not only is there less randomness, but there's also more strategic depth in Duelyst. The game features a couple different mechanics that add an extra layer of complexity compared to Hearthstone, which means your skill more directly contributes to your success. The most obvious extra depth comes from the shape of the "board," which is a grid with meaningful positioning.

Hearthstone just has your side and their side, and one dimension of positioning (left or right). Duelyst's grid means you can functionally move in two dimensions, giving positioning decisions and movement mechanics an enormous impact on success. Swapping out cards, hero activity, mana management, and greater deck size also lead to more options and control over your destiny.

Attentive and Dedicated Developers
I don't think Hearthstone's development team is as bad as many players when it comes to communication and contributions, but Duelyst's is definitely better. Their small team and complete focus to the early development of their game means they're paying a very close eye to balance and constantly providing new updates to the game and community. Tight-knit developers and players are a great sign for a game's success, and that's already firmly in place with Duelyst.

You don't have to choose your favorite card game to play, and only play it. You can like Hearhstone and Duelyst, and I have a feeling you probably will once you give it a try. Anytime you get a bad luck streak in one, you can switch to the other and change things up, giving equal time to two incredible games.

Germany-based Goodgame Studios today released further information on its recently launched browser game Legends of Honor with a new video explaining the strategy title's gameplay and the most important aspects of city-building.

The game revolves around the conflict between three factions and the quest for honor. Players face their foes on a large world map which they explore through their heroes. To support multiple heroes with ever larger and more powerful armies, a stable economy must be maintained. In the beginning, aspiring rulers should focus on expanding their cities and upgrading buildings. Especially important are production facilities, which provide the main resources of wood, stone or food, as well as military buildings and decorations.

Legends of Honor

With decorations, the population's happiness can be directly improved. Satisfied citizens will be more efficient in producing resources. A lack of residencies or attacks by other players reduce happiness. Keeping a balance between military, production, and decorative buildings is a key factor to ruling a successful city.

On the latest note, PM Belsazar confirmed in the PM diary that energy potions won't be sold in the cash shop. Curious about what other items will we see in the cash shop? Well, according to a post made by CM_Jouska, the details are coming very soon - early next week.

I know many people are very excited to see the new PM Diary, I wanted to go ahead and make a post to let everyone know PM Belsazar is working on it, and has been for some time now.  Due to the size of this Diary it may run later than expected, by late I mean early next week, but I can confirm this edition is significantly larger than the previous ones and it will include full details about the Cash Shop.

Black Desert PR manager once said in an interview with us that "cash shop will focus on vanity and convenience items, offering what we feel is a fair balance for players of all types. As for player's concern about BDO would be a P2W game, he said "players will not have to worry about the Cash Shop interfering with their enjoyment of the game."

Mech MMO Heavy Gear Assault Developers Haven't Been Paid Since July - Report

$
0
0
Former employees of Heavy Gear Assault team reported that they hadn't been paid since Gamescom 2015 in July. MMORPG.com was tipped by anonymous sources (ex-employees of the developer Stompy Bot) as below.

Tip #1

The developers (of Heavy Gear Assault) haven't been paid since July. As such, there is only one person working on the game. One of the programmers can actually live without a paycheck, and he got various family members to pitch in and invest thousands of dollars into the game's development.

It happened, of course, right as GamesCom was happening. The story changes depending on when the question is asked, but the short answer was that the game wasn't ready to go to the public, and suddenly the booth we were supposed to have didn't happen because a check bounced. Then another check to get equipment there. We were all assured that our checks would go through just fine.

Of course, they didn't.

We were told that the money was tied up in a trust, and there was plenty there but they overspent so the board members would need to look things over to make sure nobody was trying to walk away with the money. The next week, it was that a board member was "somewhere in South America". Weeks turned to months, with promises of pay (and back pay) while everyone's savings dried up.

The prompt for reaching out and telling people that the product is dead has a number of straws. The last one was the link above, talking about all the work that would be happening, and, of course, a "restructuring of the dev team". Which, if he means "one person's working on it because nobody has been paid", then that'd be more of a layoff.

The fact that the company is saying it's bringing in money, but has yet to actually pay anyone. We were all told that the round of investing was done, and we just needed to get the check. That was back in November, which goes to the other other straw breaking the back.

Management haven't spoken to the dev team in months. Funnily, since November and before that it was quite sporadic at best.

Tip #2

You see, all of the Mektek/Stompybot team were in crunch mode for the month of July to prepare for a big showing at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. From my understanding, we had reserved a large space and all the bells and whistles for the booth and the plan was to send a crew over to work and promote Heavy Gear Assault.

Shortly before Gamescom, things suddenly changed. We no longer were sending a squad of 6-10 workers, but it was just Vince (CEO) and John (Marketing) who were going and it was a bare bones set up with one small area in the Canadian section. While they were in Germany, we were due to be paid our salaries - but it never happened and we were not able to connect with them while they were overseas.

When they returned, we were assured 100% that the problem was because our bank account was overdrawn (due to Gamescom expenses) and that it required all the signatures from our investors but there was one missing and could not be contacted. At least, that's what we were told. During this time, we continued to work because we were told that the money was there, it just needed to be released.

With that investor still at large in South America somewhere (or so we were told) we were told to hold off on working until they could get us paid (these was a couple of weeks later). Well when that story could no longer be believed, we were finally told a different story and how the investor backed out. So they were trying to find new ones.

I must also say that during this time, not once did our leaders arrange any timely updates. There was one company call during these past 6 months that we invited the CEO to and basically blindsided him to get any information. Since then, the company went public with stocks available and during all this time, still has a player base buying into the game (I do not have the numbers of how much that has yielded).

Our last official communication/update from our leader Vince was in November. He has refused to tell us anything concerning the status of any monies or investments into the company. Our other higher ups have also remained silence - as if there is a gag order in effect, not saying anything to us no matter how much we beg or demand.

The players finally became sick of the radio silence (community updates) and the very limited patch updates done by one particular developer who is doing all he can by volunteering his time to keep the game afloat. They created a forum post/petition demanding for some kind of update. Our illustrious CEO Vince responded without any tact whatsoever and the players as well as the developers have felt like they've been slapped in the face. The update he provided was untruths and unfortunately this is the first update we've heard from him internally in all these months.

It's time to end this charade and that is why I am writing this. There needs to be accountability. The workers at Stompybot/Mektek are in the dark and haven't been paid in over 6 months. Many have had to uproot their lives drastically and in a panic because payment was never received. We were told several times that the money was coming and to hold on, only to get no future updates and no money. We have lost hope for the company and our corporate team but we never, ever wished the players to be punished for this sad situation and the lack of accountability from the company.

Stompy Bot CEO Vince MacMillan responded MMORPG.com, claiming that the employees were being compensated, and the MMO was in progress and planned to launch the eSports module in Q2/Q3 2016.

Super Awesome RPG

Super Awesome RPG
is an anime-themed tactical RPG, with a card game-style combat system wherein actions come from what equipment your heroes wear, and executing attacks is done through a one-thumb scratch-card like mechanic, designed for playing on the go.

Super Awesome RPG involves a battle board composed of randomly generated tokens. Each token can be flipped over to reveal a special ability, which in turn can be activated with a tap. Similar tokens can be chained together to execute more powerful versions of the moves, such as a sword thrust that instantaneously kills an enemy, or a toxic cloud that poisons everyone in the vicinity.

Super Awesome RPG also boasts a customization system that allows you to apply cosmetic changes to your heroes. Furthermore, you can modify their ability pools and attributes by having them equip weapons and equipment. You acquire gear through crafting, or from chests or enemies. You can even collect pets that assist you in battle.

When not exploring the various realms, you can test your survival skills in the Awesome Arena, a mode that throws wave after wave of enemies at you. Alternatively, you can fight against other players in PvP, or alongside them in the arena.

Super Awesome RPG” will be released worldwide on January 20, 2016 for iOS and Android devices. The complete version will cost $4.99, but a free lite version will also be available. For more information, you can visit the its official website, Twitter and Facebook page.

Monster Roller

Monster Roller
is a battle strategy game with real-time multiplayer PvP combat developed by Boomzap, an independent Southeast Asia game studio. In October 2015, the game won the award of "Winner, Game of the Year" in ESGS Indie Arena Now the developers opens up beta sign-ups for anyone interested in trying their upcoming game out before it's released.

In this game, players will pick a mode for each active monster, then 'roll' to see what move that monster will perform. Modes include things like Attacking, Defending, Healing, and so on, and then the move you end up doing will be within that mode for that roll. Check out the trailer below to know some of the gameplay.

As players progress through the game, you will be able to train and level up your monsters, evolving them for a child to an adult. The latter part is done through the game's hatching and incubation system. Players will be able to customize strategies based on monster type and develop unique abilities, trying to net yourself more advantages in battle.

For this game, anyone interested in snagging a copy will be able to do so on January 27th, 2016. Beta sign-ups are still live for anyone interested in signing up.

2D Retro MMORPG Tibia Released 1st Trailer Ever Since Launching on Steam

Free-to-play, top-down, 2D MMO Tibia is closing in on two decades of operation, and it’s just released its very first trailer. The game pubbed a patch in December and was greenlit on Steam last year, but in September CipSoft told fans the game just wasn’t ready yet to relaunch on the platform because of the requirements of the new client:

We are still aiming to release Tibia on Steam and we will continue to work towards this goal. However, a Steam release is closely linked to the development of a new Tibia client – a time-intensive, long term project on which we have been working for quite some time already. At the moment, we are still in a development stage where we cannot provide concrete, reliable information about this project. This also means that we cannot provide an ETA concerning a Tibia release on Steam yet or an estimation as to when we will be able to share more details with you.

Check out the trailer and images below!
