Blade & Soul Guide: Best Soul Shields to Obtain in Leveling

Soul Shields give you additional stat bonuses in Blade & Soul (since outfits don't have stats, soul shields play the role). There are many soul shield sets to obtain during your progression but which is the best to get? Reddit user safetyseal created a spread sheet, offering a guide for what soul shields you should get at your level scale.

Check out the spread sheet here

See more guides at the B&S hub

There are some opinions that suggest some soul shields on that spread sheet are unnecessary to get. For instance, a player suggests you just have to get:

Stalker Jiangshi for lvl 6-20
Viridian valor soul shields for lvl 20-36
Cinderlands valor soul shields for lvl 36-41
Lesser Moonwater valor soul shields for lvl 41-45
And Moonwater valor soul shields for lvl 45 - until you get Poharan PvP soul shield

Spellweaver Challenges the TCG Throne - PC Review

$
0
0
With the rise and rampant success of Hearthstone, the digital Trading Card Game genre has started to explode. You may think Hearthstone is the only and only king of the card games, but Spellweaver has arrived, and it's ready to challenge the throne.

Dream Reactor has created a new TCG that manages to take the best parts of both hardcore games like Magic the Gathering and casual games like Hearthstone, blending them into a satisfying mixture that has loads of depth while remaining accessible to genre newbies. I've spent a lot of time playing Spellweaver, and I'd like to share my take on it. Keep reading to get the details, or save some time and start downloading the game at spellweaver-tcg.com right now!

There's nothing too surprising about Spellweaver to veterans of the genre. The general gameplay and design follow many of the standards of card dueling games, but there are some cool new mechanics to freshen it up and add layers of complexity and strategy. In other words, you collect cards, you build decks, and you take turns fighting another player.
Game: Spellweaver
Developer: Dream Reactor
Release Date: February 1st, 2016
MSRP: Free-to-Play / Micro-Transactions

The graphics in Spellweaver are really rather simple compared to your average game. There are no 3D models of characters or massive worlds. There is a simple game board, cards, and animations. But that doesn't mean the visuals can't be compelling! Everything is crisp, well-designed, and visually appealing. To some extent the graphics to feel like "generic" high fantasy, with lots of gilded borders and organic textures.

When it comes to the gameplay, the graphics are definitely functional and easy to follow. The board is angled a little awkwardly to view your opponent's cards, but it's still laid out in a readable and interactable way. Spellweaver might not have the charm or character of a game like Hearthstone in the art department, but it gets the job done. You won't get lost in the beauty of it, but you'll be able to focus on the game.

That's not an indictment on the art of the cards, because they're all very well done. Dream Reactor seems to have gone to great lengths to acquire fantastic art and build out a beautiful card collection. Spellweaver's art is just as good as the titans of the genre, and maybe even better!

The game's sound is polished and effective, but doesn't convey a ton of personality. Much like the visuals trend toward generic, so does the sound design. It won't feel hollow or empty, but you won't feel compelled to turn the vollume way up to enjoy it either.

More than anything else, it's important to note that Spellweaver is an enjoyable game at its core. Games require a lot of forethought and creative thinking, and there's always something to do or see, which makes decisions and reactions feel impactful from start to finish.

There are a few different game modes in Spellweaver. Of course it contains the usual card collection and currency goals, and you'll also be able to take on difficult quests, duel with constructed decks, or join trials that let you face off against enemies with drafted decks. Spellweaver also has tools to track your progress, and the developers are great at developing a sense of competitive community both within the game and outside of it.

The dueling gameplay is incredibly deep and rewarding. Spellweaver has countless layers of interactions and tactics to consider in every moment, and the game has been built to keep you on your toes. It goes beyond considering the simple stuff like attack operations, health, mana, and minion interactions, and stretches into different progression paths in every match, as well as growing creatures, leveling hero skills, and more! All of this contributes to a game system that feels new and unique with every single new match.

The controls are quite simple, as you might imagine. Everything feels responsive and smooth, and I never felt like controls impacted the experience in any way, which is exactly how it should be with a TCG like this one.

It's normally hard to talk about "value" when it comes to a free-to-play game, but Spellweaver actually makes it much easier. The game has so many different ways to play, games are so involved and balanced, and the card system is so deep, that you're going to get countless hours of play whether you decide to spend real money or not. For the cost of a free download, Spellweaver has a lot to offer.

Although I've already touched on what makes this game fun, it can't hurt to issue a reminder. The gameplay is so rich and varied that every match feels like an entirely new game. The progression paths keep you engaged and wanting more. Games are way more interactive than Hearthstone, and more accessible than Magic the Gathering. That's a perfect combination that will hit middle-of-the-road players in all the right spots.

If you're someone who can't stand Hearthstone's simplicity, but always felt overwhelmed by Magic the Gathering's commitments, then Spellweaver is your new game. It's easy to start, challenging to master, and fun the whole way through. You can download the game now at spellweaver-tcg.com.

Slice And Dice Your Way to Victory Blade & Soul - Blademaster PVP Skill Guide

Blademaster is easily my favorite class in Blade&Souland the one I’m having the most fun while I’m playing. It can played either as a tank or DPS and while there is some difficulty in learning the combos, the end result is quite rewarding.

I made this guide based on my own experience and from advice I took from other players. In that point I would like to say that there is no perfect build, regardless of classes. The only perfect build is your own build, the one that suits you the most, nobody’s build is perfect, because even with a “perfect” build, you'll still get defeated by someone who is more knowledgeable than you in terms of their own class. That’s why you need to keep practicing, learn from your mistakes and eventually find the build that suits you.

This guide is for lv45 players with Hongmoon level 0 and doesn’t include legendary skills. So let’s start…En garde!!!

This is in my opinion the only good skill tree in block. It decreases the blocking period (from 4s->2s) but in return it allows you to damage your opponent on a perfect block and also reduces the cooldown to 1sec making it more spammable. You can also invest one more point, if you want to heal on a perfect block, but I don’t recommend it since the healing amount is insignificant and you will be needing that skill point to spend on other skills.

Charge is a MUST-HAVE skill for any BM. It generates Focus, it can be used to close the distance between opponents and finally its added bonus is really good!
Except for the 2s stun which is quite neat, the movement speed buff for 8 s is extremely useful in both PVE and PVP. Mobility is very important in a fast paced action game like Blade and Soul and high mobility will surely aid you significantly in your battles.

Quite useful skill which knockdowns opponents, worth spending one point to increase its range.

I chose that tree for its added cc effects, because if my experience in MOBAs and MMOs has taught something, it is that the side who usually wins is the one with the most cc abilities and that tree offers all kinds of cc.
First of all it is a distance closer skill, it dazes opponents and also knocks them up, if they are dazed or stunned (wombo-comboing with itself) and finally the disable defense bonus is quite sweet.

Shoulder Charge, now that skill tree is a really good one and worth investing three point in it. It dazes for 3s and the first two paths which I also recommend- heal you and remove bleeding stacks. The first path has higher damage and lower cooldown than the middle one, but in the second path the skill becomes AOE. Personally, I went with the first tree, because of the increased damage in comparison to the other and because I mainly play 1v1 duels and not group pvp.

An AOE skill which ignores defense, meaning it’s unblockable in AOE, but what you need from that tree is the 2 sec daze, making this skill a group cc ability which can turn the tide of battle in group pvp.

You need that one point to be able to initiate combos on dazed or stunned opponents.

Even though I tend to avoid upgrading basic attacks, because (in general) the bonuses aren’t really that good compared to other skills, this one is an exception. It gives you a very nice AOE stun and is certainly worth investing into. While, it is on cooldown you can use the skill normally as is without its added effects.

It’s always good to invest in escaping skills in any class, since the added bonuses offer better survivability.

You should invest at least one point in this skill, being able to free yourself from all these status effects is a huge advantage.
The second point is optional, but totally recommended, because of the added effect. My suggestion is the third path, because it dazes the opponents and you can initiate a combo if you manage to pull it off successfully.

Personally, I believe this skill is too OP for its own good, I mean, the only way deal with it is to evade and that is really hard since it has instant casting time. It knockdowns enemies and in case they are defending it stuns them instead, also it interrupts spellcasting and stuns them too!!
And all that, for what cost? Only 1 Focus and a measly cooldown of 9sec

You need two points in this one in order to have another distance closer skill in your kit.

The Lyn have also taken up the sword, but rather than wholly adopt the techniques of the Blade Master, they have invented their own unique blend of skills exclusive to their kind. The Blade Dancer merges rapid attack speed, high mobility, and devastating  control abilities at the expense of defense.
Quote from Blade & Soul wiki

This is a simple skill guide that will help you better understand the Bladedancer skills and hopefully help you improve yourself in the long run.

The cute and fluffy race of Lyn are the only ones who have two unique classes, one being the Summoner and the other one the Bladedancer. Bladedancers use their swiftness and mobility to attack their opponents with deadly grace and precision. Bladedancers are capable of delivering powerful melee blows, summon swords for defense purposes and ranged attacks, and immobilize opponents by force choking ala Darth Vader.

Before I start, I would like to mention that there is no perfect build, regardless of classes. The only perfect build is your own build, the one that suits you the most, nobody’s build is perfect, because even with a “perfect” build, you'll still get defeated by someone who is more knowledgeable than you in terms of their own class. That’s why you need to keep practicing, learn from your mistakes and eventually find the build that suits you the most.

Skill Guide

An extremely good source of Qi and unblockable attack. The other tree is more offensive, offering much better bonuses (slows, reduced healing and dash disables), but the attack can be blocked. I prefer the first, because of the Qi regeneration and because it fits my playstyle better, but if you are an aggressive player, sure…go for it!!!

This skill is similar to BladeMaster’s Ambush skill, it stuns the opponent and gives you a huge buff in movement speed, double the amount of the Blademaster’s. You will find more mobility really helpful, especially in 1v1.

This skill will pull you, no matter if you’re blocking or countering, only resistance skills and evasive skills can counter it (E/Q/SS etc).

The skill basically grabs you and for that time period you are helpless to do anything, unless a teammate saves you. The above skill Drain, can be used on a grabbed enemy to absorb your opponents Qi, damage him and also heal yourself for a small amount. Really good combo to cripple your enemy. Also if you choose the Tier2Form3 path for Phantom Grip, then each ally who attack the grabbed target will restore some Qi which is pretty useful in team PVP.

One of the most used skills that you will need it to perform many of your combos(look below). It does decent damage, when upgraded even higher when enemy is knockdown, or grappled and if you follow that tree which I recommend it has 100% critical chance to knockdown or grappled enemies which is pretty sweet.

This skill uses lighting stacks which you can gather with various ways, more commonly using the next two skills below. This skill path is decision between AOE damage or single target damage and since this is a pvp guide and I prefer 1v1 duels, I chose the latter.

That skill is a must have as if it is used correctly it can finish off an opponent without him understanding what hit him. After you have used your C skill (Lighting Draw) and you have your opponent stunned (there are a number of skills that do that, such as Flying Sparrow, Lighting Thrust, Divine Retribution etc.) This skill has a 100% critical chance on a stunned enemy and on crit, it gives you lighting stacks which can be used to activate other skills(Flash Step or Lighting Flash depending on what tree you choose)As soon as you get stunned, if you don’t have anything to evade or get out of it you can pretty much be sure that you’ll be dead so be careful about this skill when facing other bladedancers.

You need to invest at least two points in this skill path, as to guarantee the 2 sec stun bonus. Three is recommended though, because you can stack easier lighting stacks which you need for other skills as I mentioned above.

The vortex or more commonly known as Spin2Win skill is a useful for a number of reasons and two points at this path should always be spent. It cleanses snares which is good (you want to move around as much as possible when playing Bladedancer) and also on perfect blockit generates 3 Qi(cost=2->3-2=1 Qi gain)

I picked the Tier 3 Form 3 path on this skill, because it gives the “Daze enemies for 2sec” bonus when used. Be careful though on how you use it. Bladedancers have a poor defense and if they are out of evasive skills, then they are pretty much screwed if their enemy catches them in a combo.

Dual Strike or as I like to call it the GET OVER HERE! skill. It can be used to pull your enemy, especially useful when your opponent is a slippery one, like assassins or summoners, it dazes them and it is also unblockable. At the other skill paths, it can also be used repeatedly up to three times during which if timed correctly(which is extremely hard, I’ve tried it)you will be immune it and also heals for 100% of the damage dealt which is not too much so not really worth.

Another skill that is similar to Blademaster. It’s useful, because it dazes enemies and then knocks them up and has a good AOE damage

Gives you some nice shields and heals you, definitely worth spending points in it, since Bladedancer lacks in defense and will need some protection.

This skill is useful only against opponents who use grapple a lot like Destroyers and Kung Fu Masters, it’s worth to invest in it and keep it as a trump card for when they finally manage to pin you down.

Ub3rgames Acquired Darkfall Online License, Here's the Short Term Plan

Darkfall Online was an MMORPG developed by Aventurine SA and released in 2009. The game features unrestricted PvP, full looting, a large, dynamic game world, and a player-skill dependent combat system free of the class and level systems that typify most MMORPGs. In short, you could compare Darkfall to an MMOFPS, but with a living, breathing, virtual world. Sadly, the game got shut down in 2012 and now Ub3rgames anounced they finally got the Darkfall Online license and they are currently working on the title with a new name - Darkfall: New Dawn.

In short, New Dawn's planned selling points are:

– Creating a meaningful virtual world through working economy and alignment systems. Read more.
– Fixing the power gap and resolving the “grind”. Read more.
– Adding engaging daily activities, both in PvE and in PvP. Read more.
– Providing a more varied meta-game through the Title System. Read more.

As for the short term plan, here's what we can expect next:

We will first audit and analyze the code base and make a few modifications. We expect this phase to last from a few weeks to a couple months. We’ll be thorough as we don’t want to take any chances and will keep the community posted weekly, as usual.

We will open our store and announce a server opening date only once we are certain that we have a working product to sell. You can already read up on our business model.

There will be a three weeks long public stress test phase.

This will be free and open to all, we want to collect as many metrics as possible and catch server issues before New Dawn becomes a paying product. Its purpose is also to let players experience the game again as soon as possible.
At the end of the stress test, world and characters will carry over to the InDev Server.

The InDev server will start as a vanilla version of Darkfall as it was in 2012, As we consider DF 2012 to be incomplete, it will be at the reduced subscription price of 10€.

You can read the full announcement on the Darkfall: New Dawn official website.

Battleborn Introduced Another 2 New Playable Heroes at Launch

With the approaching of Battleborn's Open Beta, Battleborn updated an blog to introduce 2 new heroes, in addition to the current 18 heroes. Previously, Battleborn promised to unveil 25 playable heroes at launch on May 3rd, 2016. Now, we meet 20 of the 25 playable heroes. The two new heroes are Attikus and Galilea.

ATTIKUS

Slave. Laborer. Greatest warrior among the Jennerit underclass — the Thralls. All his life, Attikus has been told what to do, shoved into the deepest mines of Tempest, and kept down. Thanks to an experimental biotech harness, this already-imposing brute was given the one thing the Jennerit didn't expect: intelligence.

The only thing more dangerous than a huge, imposing beast with an axe to grind against his oppressors… is a smart imposing beast with an axe to grind against his oppressors.

Main Attacks

Barefisted Brawling (R2): while his normal fist would just as easily knock you out, watch out for when his abilities are fully charged. You'll be seeing stars as his enhanced hand delivers a burst of shield-draining damage.
Charged Hook (L2): Hold back for a couple seconds and Attikus' high-octane haymaker delivers a world of pain. To your face.

Battleborn

Abilities

Pounce (L1): Just because this beast is huge doesn't mean it can't move. Attikus can leap to a target location and knock foes back.
Hedronic Arc (R1): That metal arm grafted to Attikus' body? He uses it to shock enemies when they come in for a closer look.

Battleborn

For more details

GALILEA, THE WRAITH OF BLISS

A sacred order within the Eldrid, the Arbiters of Being were charged with undermining the Jennerit Empire's technology, and Galilea was its most promising warrior. Entrusting her with a long undercover mission, Galilea was embedded within the Jennerit and worked her way through the recruits of the Silent Sisters.

Hedronic Eruption (Triangle): Attikus' ultimate ability hurls shockwaves of energy to clear enemies out of his path.

Hedronic Collector: A fringe benefit of the biotech harness — his passive ability can syphon energy from killed enemies. Once enough energy gets collected, he can pay it forward, juicing up the next skill he uses and making it even more powerful.

The best tactic for fighting against Attikus: keep your distance. Stun, slow, or shoot at Attikus — just keep him out of arm's reach!

During an attempt to sabotage their Sustainment technology, Ambra discovered and attacked Galilea, mortally wounding her. Once a close friend, Ambra attempted to use Sustainment to save Galilea's life but it was only partially successful. Now unstable, immortal, and reeking of life-draining dark energy, Galilea is at war with herself and her new powers as she hopes to find a new purpose among the Peacekeepers.

Battleborn

Main Attacks

Wraith's Greatsword (R2): she may be a fallen holy warrior of the Eldrid, but Galilea is still incredibly handy and swift in close combat.
Sentinel's Greatshield (L2): when Galilea is ready to wade deep into combat and stare her enemy in the eye, nothing's better than a shield for deflecting blows and defending allies.

Abilities

Shield Throw (L1): that shield Galilea wields can do a lot more than simply absorb damage — give it a toss and share the pain! And, no, she has nothing to do with a certain someone that rhymes with Shnaptain Shamerica.

Desecrate (R1): always ready for a sword fight, she curses the ground beneath enemies to amplify damage against them.

Abyssal Form (Triangle): Take personal time-out with this ability. Galilea's ultimate ability explodes into dark energy allowing her to take a break from the action or run for cover. During that time, she takes reduced damage and regenerates a huge chunk of her health.

Corruption: the more that she connects blows and uses skills, Galilea's Corruption grows. Once charged, she begins projecting a passive aura that drains the health of nearby enemies.

The best tactic for fighting against Galilea: keep your distance, attack from behind where she can't block with her shield, and keep her on the move so she can't bunker down with Desecrate and Corruption.

This is largely due to the cross-platform release of the game, recently made available on Xbox One. Lets recall that while available on PC platforms, the game had an average peak of 85,000 players.

Jesse Rapczak, Co-Founder and Co-Creative Director at Studio Wildcard, mentioned that despite the Xbox One version having a higher price tag (due to higher development costs), the game's popularity on the platform has been on the rise, with “peak cross-platform player count lately around the high hundred thousands – you know, 175,000, 180,000, kind of creeping up towards 200,000”.

Considering this, we can have high expectation regarding the Playstation 4 release, the latter possessing a bigger share of the home console market. Unfortunaly, PS4 owners will need to wait a bit longer to have their hands on the game as Sony does not have an Early Access program. As such, the game will only become available to them at full release.

Korean MMORPG Blade & Soul has finally launched in NA and EU, and NCsoft will keep rolling out content and eventually catch up to the other versions. What can we expect for Blade & Soul in 2016? Recently 17173 has sat down with Blade & Soul Dev team and talked about some upcoming changes in 2016.

Firstly, the gameplay content will receive lots of big updates and players can put their hands on some new features after Lunar New Year. NCSoft will introduce a new infinite tower to challenge players’ 1 vs 1 arena ability. Unlike the boss fight in Mushin tower, players will have to fight against powerful guards feature different classes and special AI. Besides, the new infinite tower also features luck and strategy elements. It is unnecessary to defeat 100 guards to enter 100th floor in the mode since the system will award skipping floor bonus according to the clear time of each floor.

After releasing a hybrid class Force Kungfu Master, NCSoft will release a brand-new class in 2016. With lots of brand-new features, this new class won’t be a hybrid class like Force Kungfu Master. In addition, the highly-anticipated sex/race changing items are scheduled to add to the client in 2016. Lastly, the tweaks to class balance are underway, and NCSoft is bringing numbers of class rebalancing changes to Korean version soon.

The 5 Biggest Mistakes to Avoid When the Overwatch Beta Returns

The Overwatch closed beta is returning on February 9th, and new beta invites should be going out before too long. If you're hoping to get into the beta and start playing the most exciting new game of 2016, you'll want to avoid some simple mistakes that'll reveal you as the brand new beginner in your very first match.

Mistake #1: Not Paying Attention to Team Compositions

In Overwatch there are roles that each character falls into, including offense, defense, tank, and support. Each team has six heroes on it, which means that more than one person will be playing some of the roles, creating a wide variety of different team compositions based on roles and individual heroes. Players haven't developed a meta-game regarding these roles just yet, but you still need to be thinking about what roles your team currently has, which ones they need, and which ones will counter the enemy team.

There will be times you need to switch to a tank hero so that your team has someone to absorb damage. There may be instances you need to add another offensive hero to help secure kills or pressure an objective. You may even want to add in a second support hero to fend off approaching enemies while holding a precarious position. Don't play only one role because it's your favorite or the easiest, or your teams will suffer.

Mistake #2: Forgetting About the Objective

Many new players go into Overwatch trying to play it like a deathmatch style of game. Hero kills don't mean anything unless they're directly supporting your team's efforts towards securing the objective. Having the most kills doesn't do a darned thing, and only the objective can actually win you the game. Getting lost in all the action and chaos can be quite easy with a game this fast and beautiful and dynamic, but constantly try to remind yourself that you're working towards a common goal and you need to focus on it.

Mistake #3: Not Focusing Down the Support

Like in any other game where there are characters who heal, in Overwatch you need to burn down the support hero if you ever want to win a fight. If you let them sit in the back and heal up the more dangerous members of their team, you'll be doomed from the start. Occasionally that's as simple as shooting at the healer instead of shooting at the big easy-to-hit tank, but many other times it requires some creative thinking, alternate paths, and new angles. You may even have to switch your hero to set up kills with a more aggressive offensive character. Pay attention to how, who, and when they're protecting their support and find ways to answer it.

Mistake #4: Not Alternating Between Heroes

Overwatch does something a little different, in that you're never locked into a single character throughout a match. You can change heroes any time you're in the base, and it's quite important that you do so most of the time. Knowing when to switch heroes, and knowing who to switch to makes Overwatch a very strategically complex game.

If the enemy team is beating you with burst damage, switching to a tank might slow them down. If you're having trouble penetrating their backline, perhaps switching to a mobile offensive character will get the job done. You may even have to change to a support to keep your team of aggressive players alive throughout engagements. Just pay attention to your team's needs, potential counters to the enemy team, and adjust on the fly as needed!

Mistake #5: Forgetting to Use Your Alternate Fire

This one is quite simple, but it's something I've noticed a lot of players doing. Don't forget to use your weapon's secondary firing mode! Many characters have two ways to shoot their guns, and depending on the situation, one will be vastly superior to the other. If you're not utilizing every tool that's available to you, then you're only playing at a fraction of your full potential.

And there you have it, the 5 most common mistakes of new Overwatch players. Avoid these errors, and your first day in Overwatch will be an amazing one full of kills, wins, and fun!
