Fusion War: A Smart Approach to Combine Arcade Feature with Shooting Experience

37 Games' Fusion War may not have the most explosive actions and stunning graphics in the mobile shooting game genre, but it take a different approach, by blending the shooting experience with arcade elements. Specifically, you are put behind different covers in each scenario and face enemies marching towards you in waves. You don't control where to go and instead you focus fully on where and when to shoot.

It reminds me of an arcade shooter I played many years ago, Virtua Cop. How? Some tougher enemies in Fusion War got weak points and some shoot missiles to you, and these are highlighted with red circles on the screen so you know you shoot make use of the weak points or shoot the missiles before they hit you.

Of course Fusion War is more complex in combat. You can swap between an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, and you can take out a mini gun to deal a lot of damage to enemies and vehicles. There are several abilities you can use including grenades and healing. Last but not least you can choose a buddy that's controlled by AI to fight alongside you.

There are boss battles in the game, most of which pit you against huge mecha or aircraft. It's a pity that boss battle lacks exciting mechanics and all you need to do is aiming at the weak points and shooting down the missile they fire.

Anyway, the game is addictive for its scenario-based setting. You don't have to spend a lot of time clearing a scenario, or stage. What's more the challenge mode (endless mode) is my favorite part and it's fun to break your previous record in this mode.

Below is a hands-on video that takes a look at the game's different modes. You can learn more about the game by watching the video.
