Free Reign Entertainment and Arktos Entertainment were the ones behind Romero's Aftermath and The War Z (Infestation: Survivor Stories), both of which got pretty lot of negative receptions from on Steam. The 2 companies' new survival MMO title Shattered Skies just released on July 21 and from the community's reaction, it had make what they did wrong in previous games right this time.

Much balanced world without any microtransaction
From beta to final launch, Shattered Skies got over 80% positive reviews on Steam. The game has better graphics than previous games, hardcore PvP and survival experience, the ability to build fortification and barricades anywhere in the world, and a more friendly crafting system that won't force you to lose your gathering upon death. What's more, the game has no microtransaction in the game as the developer promises pay once and play forever.

Better PvP experience
Many players in the Steam community mentioned the PvP is a lot better than Aftermath and The WarZ. Of course you need to be PvP-focused player who like looting and adrenaline rushes. If you just care about PvE, it may not be able to please you because according to some players, the game doesn't have very small number of zombie in a large area.

Ultimately, the game is for hardcore players
If you don't like get killed by high level players in the wild, and if you can't accept losing stuff at death, you are suggested to pass this game. Besides, the game is heavily relied on groups though it does allow players to play alone. Staying in group makes gameplay fun and increases your chance to survive.
