Perhaps the MOBA market is too crowded now and it makes it difficult for small studios to succeed. Whitebox Interactive has to cease the development of Warhammer 40K: Dark Nexus due to the restriction of resources. The game started early access last year but it didn't make much progression since then.

"We were really hopeful to provide Warhammer 40, 000 and MOBA fans a game that would encompass both aspects but unfortunately we missed the mark. We were in beta for a year and have taken a lot of valuable feedback from our players," the dev said in the announcement. The game's server will keep live until March 31, 2016.

GDC 2016 Hits Record with 27,000 Attendees, GDC 2017 Due on Feb 27

UBM Game Network’s 2016 Game Developers Conference (GDC), the world’s largest and longest-running event serving professionals dedicated to the art and science of making games has set a record for event attendance, with more than 27,000 game industry professionals at last week’s conference in San Francisco’s Moscone Center. This year, UBM Game Network also debuted the 2016 Virtual Reality Developers Conference (VRDC), an event dedicated to the creation of new video games, entertainment and technology around virtual and augmented reality (AR), which was held alongside GDC. The organizers have announced that GDC will return to the Moscone Center in San Francisco from Monday, February 27 to Friday, March 3, 2017, and will see the return of VRDC. Call for submissions for both GDC and VRDC to open this summer.

GDC 2016, through its introduction of the VRDC, has helped bring greater focus to the nascent field of Virtual Reality (VR) development, with two days of dedicated talks and sessions surrounding challenges and opportunities tied to the rapidly-maturing field of VR and AR.  The event and its resulting buzz helped to set the stage for Sony Computer Entertainment’s announcement of the price point of $399.99 in the United States and October 2016 release date for their upcoming PlayStation VR headset, which was first unveiled (under the project name Morpheus) at GDC 2014.

GDC 2016 marked the 30th edition of the event, and to celebrate the history and legacy of the conference, the organizers hosted a comprehensive retrospective talk on the history of GDC. On Wednesday, March 16, the main conference opened with the “Flash Backward: 30 Years of Making Games,” a session that brought together industry luminaries from GDC’s history. From conference founder Chris Crawford’s talk on the first GDC hosted at his house, to Lori Cole’s experiences crafting pioneering PC adventure games, to speakers including Phil Harrison, Ken Lobb, Tim Schafer, Palmer Luckey and others, the session covered insights into the history of game consoles, the birth of digital game distribution and the promising future of VR.

The annual Independent Games Festival (IGF) and Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) ceremonies took place on Wednesday evening.  Developer Sam Barlow’s Her Story won the IGF Seumas McNally Grand Prize award of $30,000, as well as the IGF award for Excellence in Narrative. The IGF ceremony also played host to the ID@Xbox Rising Star Award, that went to Girls Make Games, which is a series of international summer camps, workshops and game jams designed to inspire the next generation of female designers, creators, and engineers. Sam Barlow made a reappearance on the Awards Show stage, as Her Story also went on to win the Game Developers Choice Awards for Innovation, Best Narrative and Best Handheld/Mobile Game during the ceremony that immediately followed the IGF Awards.

The GDCA Game of the Year went to CD Projekt Red for their game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The bustling Expo Floors in the Moscone North and South Halls exhibited some of the most notable names in the tech and games industry, including Amazon, Epic Games, Google, Microsoft, Oculus, Sony, Unity and more than 550 other companies who offered product and tech demonstrations, networking and recruitment opportunities. The Moscone North Hall housed the IGF Pavilion which featured all the award finalists’ games, as well as the GDC Play area. Inspired by the success of the IGF Pavilion, GDC Play similarly offered a dedicated space where developers could show off their playable games and conduct meaningful business at GDC.

In addition to the Expo Floors, GDC hosted a variety of Interactive Spaces throughout the week. Independent developers and some of the latest indie games were featured in the GDC Train Jam, alt.ctrl.GDC and Mild Rumpus areas, a special edition of Double Fine’s “Day of the Devs” and the Indie MEGABOOTH showcase. The GDC VR Lounge featured a range of VR and AR demos across all the upcoming VR platforms. For fans of tabletop board games, ”Shut Up and Sit Down” hosted a selection of the best board games of the year for all attendees to enjoy. iam8bit returned to GDC this year with a 1980’s living room where attendees could pose for pictures and pay homage to the very first Game Developers Conference, which was held in the living room of GDC founder and developer Chris Crawford’s house in the 1980’s.

“This year’s GDC, paired with the inaugural VRDC, allows us to look both backwards at the legacy and lessons of previous years, and forward to the future of games and VR experiences. Even in its 30th edition, GDC continues to evolve and grow to encompass all of the key lessons, advancements and artistic strides that the industry makes. Once again, the staff, volunteers, speakers, students and attendees have made GDC 2016 an amazing, fun and safe show all around,” said Meggan Scavio, general manager of the Game Developers Conference. “As technologies mature and tastes in games change, we’re happy have a place for all of our friends, colleagues and soon-to-be-friends to meet about, learn about and discuss the games and VR experiences that we love. Games are becoming the most popular form of entertainment in the modern world, so it’s only appropriate that GDC carry with it the same spirit of fun, adventure and discovery as the games themselves, just as it has since its beginning.”

Tree of Savior International Early Access & OBT Guide: 14 Tips for New Players

$
0
0
Tree of Savior international version will start early access later this month and opens to everyone in April. To help new players to pick up the game smoothly and learn it fast, I've made 14 tips for beginners.

1. There's no the most powerful class in case you want to ask. However, there are indeed some popular class builds for each archetype, and you can find them here. Eventually, I believe that the class you like most is the best class for you.

2. The game has 2 new starting towns: Klapeida and Orsha, each of which has a unique starting quest line.

3. Since it's an international version, you may be curious of your Ping. Type /ping in chat channel to see your Ping. You can also type /indun to see how many dungeons you've played today.

4. Try to use your EXP cards when you are about to level up because each time you level up your HP and mana will fully recover. This can help to save your potions.

5. When does the C1, C2, C3 mean when we talk about classes?
Each class can advance to Circle 3 (C3), meaning that the same class can upgrade 3 times at most.

6. Side quests are not marked on the map so be sure to talk to every NPC you can see when you enter a new map.

7. When you progress to Tenet Garden, which is a lvl 35 map, and you are likely around 35, you will find the mobs there are around lvl 40. You can purchase a warp scroll and transport to the other starting town (if you start in Orsha, purchase a Klaipeda warp scroll) and clear the quest lines there.

8. The game has hundreds of levels but it doesn't use a single leveling curve — otherwise it would be scary. Instead the leveling curve reset at lvl 46, 86, 136, and 236.

9. You will be able to play dungeon at lvl 50. From now on you can play dungeons 5 times each day. It's a way to level up, don't waste EXP cards when you have dungeons to play.

10. If you can't find any main quest, you are very likely not reaching the necessary level for new quests. Try to complete some side quests or travel to the other starter town to complete the main quests in the near maps.

11. Dungeon will reward you loot chest which includes items to upgrade your guild.

12. After reaching level 100 you can receive daily quests and daily dungeons in the town of Fedimian, which reward you pretty lot of EXP.

13. You can play Arena after you progress to Rank 5.

14. You can farm a lot of gold in the lvl 130 dungeons.

Mobile Review - Plants vs Zombies: Heroes "2016 Best Mobile Strategy"

Plants vs Zombies: Heroes
2016 Best Mobile Strategy

I've been wanting to give you a review of this game for a while but I've been playing it in its entirety to ensure I can bestow the Title of the 2016 Best Mobile Strategy Game with confidence.  Plants vs. Zombies: Heroes makes the highest marks in all four categories.

Gameplay
Plants vs Zombies: Heroes is a turn-based strategy game focused on building a (minimum) 40 card deck, filled with creature cards and tricks. The Plants and Zombies each have subclass heroes that work (two different sets of separate) strategic cards specific to that hero. So my favorite “dancing” Zombie Hero is called Electric Bugaloo and has two different Builds.

Beastly: where I mildly control the board until late game where I drop big gigantuan zombies.
Crazy: where my Zombie tricks heavily control the board and I spawn small defenders.

Each sub class hero contains cards of similar potential. It's your job to figure out your heroes playstyle and since the decks is so large add your own twist. The mechanics are turn-based and zombies will always go first. But doesn't necessarily mean they have any advantage, in fact - because they get to go first - the plants get a chance the combo a lot easier. With zombies playing last, they get a little more field control. Having 20 hp each, the first get your enemy below 1 hp wins the match.

Aside from the hp, each character posses a shield. The shield generates blocking stacks based on the amount of times the enemy attacks your hero directly. Once at full stacks (depending on the attack power of the enemy minion) you will get to block that single lanes attack. Which hero you have may also trigger a defensive ability causing you to play a card for free or draw a card for your next turn. Each turn, you acquire either a brain or a sun - which you use as a mana source to play your cards.

There are 7 phases for each turn:

Zombie draw phase
Zombie main phase
Plant draw phase
Plant main phase
Plant trick phase
Zombie trick phase
Attack phase starting with
   Zombie lane 1
   Plant lane 1

   Zombie lane 2….

Value
Plants vs Zombies: Heroes initially has a pretty fair value when it comes to accumulating cards for your deck. There are two main ways to accumulate cards - the first is playing the main quest. As you play the main quest you will begin to accumulate cards for all your different classes (2) after each victory or (1) for each loss.

The second is the old fashion store purchase where you can choose different packs of cards based on your diamond amount. I've been playing Plants vs Zombies: Heroes for a week and have open 10 premium packs. 7 out of the 10, I received only 1 a premium card or higher per pack. This indicates that the curve for paying-to-win it's extremely high, yet still possible. What's interesting, is that you can't choose which class card you will receive in each pack you open. This dilutes the number of pack value and dissuades from paying-to-win.

What I appreciate about PvZHeroes is they made the daily and main quest challenging to accomplish. When you do manage to finish them, the payout is always worth it (the boss fight always giving you a uncommon or better.) Completing each section of the main quest, gives you an equivalent of 2 premium packs, or even more if you lose. That being said this game has established an extremely fair competitive environment as well as a great revenue stream while keeping everything fair.

Multiplayer
As of right now, the game has only been released in Sweden - which means there isn't that many people in the arena to play against. As PvZHeroes is still in beta and have a few bugs to work out (visual effects cleanup, and minor tweaking) before global launch, the multiplayer mechanics and balance for both Zombie and Plants feel nearly perfect. The introduction to subclasses was genius, giving each player multiple playstyle choices within their favorite Hero.
I’ve played against people that opened a lot of packs, and surprisingly I didn't get wrecked. I'd say it's a 30% chance to win against a stacked deck - if you understand your deck and class. That's pretty good odds, considering many strategy games don't give you even the slightest chance.

The only issue I found is with the Multiplayer afk. When you're attempting to finish a quest that requires you to win in the arena, but your opponent leaves. That shouldn't disqualify you from completing your quest.

Creativity
I like every aspect of Plants vs Zombies: Heroes aside from the fact that it does feel a little “kinder”. Although it does have the child like animations, the gameplay and strategy is definitely not kid friendly. This is Hearthstone's next competitor - and the fact that PvZ is such a strong brand guarantees that it’s going to do well. They could've created a standard game with the Plants vs Zombies 3 concept, but they added the “hero” aspect, adding a whole new element which changes the entire game. Not only that, the additional shield mechanic creates game stability and with high-level play will be a dramatic factor in winning or losing.

Since the game is still in beta I can't give it a perfect score, nor would I until the glitches are fixed. That said, I proudly give Plants vs Zombies: Heroes...
