Cloud9
have won BTS Americas #2 tournament. This was their second great win with new roster after rather convincing performances in Nanyang Championship qualifiers.

They defeated xdGamers, ROOT Gaming and FIRE on their way to the finals, and all of them with 2-0 score. Their exceptional performances were rewarded with the finals where Leviathan waited. The finals were extremely close BO5 series where C9 eventually took the 5th and final game of this matchup, thus securing themselves a 3-2 score and yet another great triumph in North America.

By winning BTS #2 Cloud9 were rewarded with $5,000, while Leviathan got $3,000 for their 2nd place finish.

Nanyang Championships Chinese Qualifier: EHOME to Singapore over iG

Another day, another EHOME-iG Finals. Today, these two were fighting for a slot at Nanyang Championship and once again EHOME managed to take the final match from iG.

After devastating loss in ESL Qualifiers yesterday, iG were looking to get revenge and take the consolation prize in form of NYC Qualifiers. But, EHOME had different plans. Even though the BO5 series went into 5th game, it just wasn't enough for iG to clutch it and take home these Qualifiers. Once again EHOME have shown that they are currently a bit better than iG, both in decision making and team play.

Game 5 draft

The best showing of EHOME´s current form was the deciding 5th game where they managed to pull back from both gold and experience deficit. It was really iG´s game up to the point when Wang ‘old chicken’ Zhiyong´s Leshrac got his Bloodstone and EHOME managed to team wipe iG under EHOME´s T1 tower. This win secured EHOME a 3-2 scoreline and a ticket to Singapore.

EHOME will now be joining Team Secret, LGD, CDEC, Virtus.Pro, Fnatic, VG and C9 at NYC LAN Finals where they will have a chance to grab a chunk of more than $200,000 prize pool money.

New 6.85 patch hits the DotA 2 main client: BOOM! goes Techies

The latest patch for DotA 2 has been released to the main client being effective immediately. Icefrog, the creator of DotA 2, announced in a forum post around a week ago that the patch would be live soon and the official DotA 2 blog has released the full notes on their website.

Almost every hero has received a change of some sort with many of the heroes that appeared imbalanced in 6.84 being reigned in a bit. The top 5 heroes in the latest competitive hero tier list have all been given nerfs, as their skills and stats have been reduced or rescaled.

Leshrac
  • Base damage reduced by 4
  • Lightning Storm jump distance reduced from 650 to 475
  • Lightning Storm damage reduced from 80/140/200/260 to 50/100/150/200
Gyrocopter
  • Rocket Barrage damage per rocket reduced from 8/13/18/23 to 7/12/17/22
  • Call Down slow no longer pierces Spell Immunity
Bounty Hunter
  • Track now provides vision only of the target rather than the area around it
  • Track allied bonus gold reduced from 50/100/150 to 40/80/120
Lina
  • Light Strike Array damage reduced from 120/160/200/240 to 80/120/160/200
  • Laguna Blade damage reduced from 450/675/950 to 450/650/850
Tusk
  • Ice Shards mana cost increased from 90 to 100/105/110/115
  • Snowball max launch time reduced from 4 to 3 seconds
  • Frozen Sigil no longer goes through Spell Immunity
  • Aghanim's Scepter Walrus Kick now deals 200 damage
Further to this, everyone's (least) favourite hero has been dealt some reasonable changes to make him a little less annoying in your solo queue.

Techies
  • Techies' mines are no longer triggered when destroyed
  • Techies' mines can now be destroyed using Quelling Blade/Battle Fury
  • Techies' mines now provide 10 Gold for destroying them
  • Land Mines cooldown and mana cost reduced by 50%
  • Land Mines damage reduced by 50%
  • Land Mines no longer have a max count
  • Land Mines and Stasis Traps no longer block neutral spawns
  • Land Mines no longer stack exactly on top of each other
On the other side of balance changes there have been some noticeable buffs to various heroes who have not seen as much pro play recently. Some of the heroes that may be more prevalent in the metagame during this patch are: Batrider, Elder Titan, Lone Druid, Nature's Prophet, Nyx Assassin, Nightstalker and Spectre.

Here are just a few of the most interesting changes in 6.85 that might make some neglected heroes more viable:

Drow Ranger
  • Precision Aura bonus damage increased from 18/24/30/36% to 20/26/32/38%
  • Precision Aura cooldown reduced from 120 to 100
Elder Titan
  • Echo Stomp area of effect increased from 475 to 500
  • Ancestral Spirit mana cost rescaled from 110 to 80/90/100/110

Death Prophet
  • Exorcism spirits increased from 6/13/21 to 8/14/21
Invoker
  • Intelligence growth increased from 3.2 to 4.0
  • Alacrity speed/damage bonus increased from 20->80 to 30->90
  • Aghanim's Scepter now adds one level to the stats provided by Quas, Wex, and Exort on all Invoked spells
  • Max level Deafening Blast now retains its normal location targeting UI
You can see the full list of changes over at the DotA 2 blog. All competitive games will now be played on the new patch for the coming months and the Fall Major.

Warhammer 40k Regicide Review: More Complex Than Its Actual Name

$

0

Hammerfall Publishing, a small independent game company based out of Sydney Australia has just come out with the turn-based strategy game, Warhammer 40,000: Regicide. Based on Game Workshop’s popular tabletop game, Warhammer 40,000, the Hammerfall studios took advantage of the franchises rich lore and converted it into a chess-like video game platform.

When I was first given the task to review this game I originally thought it was going to be a hack and slash-like game that was based in some futuristic space world. The name Warhammer 40,000: Regicide sounds overwhelming and made me think of a myriad of possibilities and chess was definitely not one of them. But to fair, this isn’t your run of the mill Microsoft Chess where the most interesting alteration you can do to it is turn your chess pieces into Confucian era jade warriors; this is Warhammer 40,000: Regicide, the Jeffery Dahmer version of chess!

With two game modes: classic and regicide, the game gives you the option to either play classic mode: regular chess or regicide mode: chess that has smoked crystal meth, projectile-vomited up blood, and took a dump in the middle of a supermarket frozen food isle. Regicide adds an additional phase to an already complex game, in that it gives each unit and faction additional abilities and traits. For instance, after you move your unit in the “movement phase,” you are then granted the “initiation phase” were individual units can use additional abilities like throwing a grenade from afar or assaulting the opponent in a close-quarters combat situation. Coming from a Cro-Magnon, I’m already completely overwhelmed by the original game and struggle to conceptualize many of its core concepts as it is. Adding the ability to blast an opposing units face in with a futuristic war gun was just too much for me, I already can’t decipher between a Rook and a Bishop, let alone an Ork Shoota Boy or Ork Loota.

My favorite part of the game by far was the Campaign mode where it slowly integrates the player into the world of Regicide Chess. Each mission is diverse as it slowly introduces new units and provides the player with a main and a secondary objective to complete. The objectives award points towards the overall player score and give each mission  a unique perspective on how to play the game. Personally, I really liked this aspect of the game as I’m completionist and this game gives you a plethora of achievements and objectives to complete.

Online mode is not for the faint of heart, and I only momentarily ventured into the abyssal waters known as multiplayer. I quickly suffered PTSD like symptoms from my youth at the Boys and Girls Club Chess tournaments were I got beat by asthmatic kids five years younger than me and who would make perfidious accusations about my mother. Regicide was simply just a mind fuck and classic mode wasn’t any more assuasive as I was probably playing some 40 year old who lived with his mother, had an 80’s style porno mustache, and whose name was Bill; or I played some twelve year old grandmaster who would call me his “bitch” if voice chat was enabled. AI mode was very ameliorating for an idiot like me, who could adjust the difficulty level to meet my infantile capabilities.

Overall, I’d have to say this is very much a niche game. If you are either in love with the Warhammer franchise or just a fan of Chess, this is the game for you. The campaign mode provides a narrative discourse for those who love Warhammer lore and the Regicide mode is great for those who are not challenged enough by chess or are looking for a new way to play the game…you sick, sick bastards. While it’s personally not for me I’ll give it a higher score because I know there will be those who are specifically looking for a game like this.

WildStar Reloaded Is Getting a Visual Improvements

Wildstar will roll out its free-to-play version on September 29, and this reloaded update will not only come with massive content update, but receive several Visual improvements as well. Lighting, skyboxes, and viewing distance will all be improved in this patch. All the changes are detailed on its official site, and you can check out some comparison screens below.(Click to check screenshots in full size)

Where before large sections of zones had sort of flat single-point lighting, we’re going back and making it more realistic by increasing the number of sources that light up the environment. We've also added effects such as the rays from an otherworldly star—or a glow from a campfire—that all go into bringing the look and feel of an environment together. While still fairly time-intensive, it’s allowing us to make some dramatic improvements to the visual quality of the game without needing to touch the already high-quality models and textures in the game.

Pokemon Revolution Online MMO Review - An Interesting Experience So Far

$
0
0
A team of fans Pokemon universe has recently launched a rather interesting game called Pokemon Revolution Online. Specifically, players get to relieve the first and second gen regions of the franchise, with graphics somewhere in between Emerald and Platinum, and with the possibility of playing alongside other players and interacting with them through trades and duels.

The title, available to Windows as well as Mac and Android devices, has players start their adventure in the Kanto region, receiving their first Pokemon from Professor Oak and slowly working their way to the top by challenging known Gym Leaders like Brock, Misty and Koga, all while putting a brake to the schemes of Team Rocket (fun fact; players will encounter characters that only previously appeared in the anime, including the now popular Jessie/James/Meowth trio). Nothing truly extraordinay.

Pokemon Revolution Online, or PRO, is however much more than that. Indeed, much like in the anime, once the player completes a region and defeats the Elite 4 and Champion, they are sent to a different region, with their previously caught Pokemon being temporarily stored away (basically starting over Ash-style). In this case, after completing the Kanto region, players will be transported to Johto, exploring the region and building their team from scratch. Their old Pokemon will also be reclaimable only after they defeat the Johto Pokemon League.

Gameplay-wise, while I have yet to try it on on mobile devices, the game is really well optimized in terms of controls for the keyboard and mouse, players having a quick access to battle commands, as well as useful features such as the stats and capabilities of their Pokemon, interactions with others players, and so on. PRO, I believe, currently gives players access to all 721 Pokemon, as well as 450 working moves, and 100 working abilities. It should also be noted that the game posseses a quite balanced dan/night cycle, and that players can challenge defeated NPCs again after some time.

One common complaint is, however, that progressing in the game can be a real headache. While the low exp gain is troubling enough, the biggest obstacle would be how hard it is for players to obtain Poke Dollars. And this seems to be intended, with the game's economy depending greatly on this currency (the sales of Pokemon or hard to obtain items like rare candies being rather common).

Finally, regarding the economic model of the game, PRO is (almost) entirely free-to-play. Almost, because the game also possesses a subscription system in the form of donations that not only increases the amount of exp and Poke Dollars players earn in battles, but also gives them access to otherwise unavailable "premium" Pokemon. In their defense, the PRO team previously announced that they receive no form of remuneration from the game, and that all their members are unpaid volunteers. The money received from donations and subscription is entirely poured into server maintenance and further development of the game.

Conclusion
Concretely, this Pokémon universe mixed with the MMORPG genre ends up with rather convincing results. While the game is still lacking a few things for a complete experience, it should be pointed out that it is still in Live Beta. As such more abilities, as well as more regions, will be added eventually. The server is also being improved slowly, having gone from a capacity of 450 players to the current limit of 1200 players. This might just be the Pokemon MMO we've been waiting for all this time, assuming that they work on improving the balancing.

Wildstar F2P Beginner Guide - Choosing Your Faction And Race

If you are one of the players planning to experience the Nexus adventure for the first time when Wildstar goes free-to-play in 2 weeks, this guide is for you. As mentioned in our previous review, you first few minutes in Wildstar will be quite choice heavy, with a number of options that will affect your gameplay. With free accounts being limited to two characters, you'll probably want to know what you are doing before starting your epic.

This guide will tackle the subject of races and factions, each of them possessing their own feature and personalities.

The Good Exiles and The Bad Dominions
The two factions opposing themselves are the Exiles and the Dominions. No sugarcoating here, the Dominions are an almighty empire, desperate to maintain their supremacy in the universe. To ensure this, they aren't above performing acts of mass murders, even more so when the prize is as promising as the Nexus planet. The Exiles, on the other hand, are what you'd call rebels simply looking out for the survival of their races, and show no interest in taking power.

The choice of the faction will not only affect your starting locations, but also on the capital city where you will be spending a lot of your time. In terms of looks, the Dominion capital Illum possesses an architecture worthy of that of the Akkadian Empire, while Thayd, capital city of the Exiles will boast a greenish Steampunk appearance.

Next up will the choice of a race. Each faction will have their own unique races, although humans will be present on both.

Dominion Races
  • The Cassians: Nothing special, the human race is present in practically every MMO. The Cassians, however, are a not your average humans. A proud elitist race, they believe that they are entitled to galactic domination. Their animations further exacerbate this, giving them a very chic and distinguished appearance.
  • The Drakens: Wild both in looks and personality, the name Drakens alone is enough to strike throughout the galaxy. Conquered by the Dominion faction on their wild world, they come to Nexus to prove their military supremacy. They are nonetheless extremely loyal to their faction and allied races.
  • The Chuas: While they may look like adorable rodents with long ears, do not be fooled by their innocent appearance. They may truly be the most violent race withing the Dominion faction. True psychopaths at heart, they love to create the most diabolically lethal inventions. Interesting note: Chuas do not have gender options. There are, however, both male and female Chuas. It is simply impossible for other races to differentiate between them.
  • The Mechari: Robots. Need we say more? They were created by Eldans, yes, the superior race that left Nexus behind. Extremely cruel and calculating, they are the most active race of the Dominion faction, constantly working towards extending their supremacy.

Exiles Races
  • The Humans: Descendants of lowborn Cassians for the most, they broke free of their control following a civil war that took place over their expected worship of the Luminari. Having lost the war, they had no option other than fleeing to avoid extermination. Due to their circumstances, Nexus is now a crucial asset to ensure their survival.
  • The Granoks: If you liked "The Thing" in the Fantastic 4, this race is for you! Real rock creatures, Granoks fled their home world Gnox after a conflict between themselves and the Dominion empire. Beer lovers at heart, they can, however, be as unmerciful as Drakens in combat, leading to a mutual respect between the two races (although they never miss a chance to slaughter each other).
  • The Aurins: If there is a race that fits the “elf” archetype, it would be the Aurins. Defenders of nature, these can be compared to extremist environmentalists. Forget tree huggers, they Aurins are ready to kill hundreds to save a single tree. And that is exactly what they intend to do to defend the fauna and flora of Nexus from the Dominion.
  • The Mordesh: If the Aurins are elves, the Mordesh would be dark elves. Once an extremely race, they were nearly decimated, and had their appearance greatly altered, following the outbreak of a disease. Nexus is their last hope for finding a cure, if any exists, as they face their upcoming extinction.

WildStar F2P Beginner Guide - Choosing A Class

The classes of WildStar, while having some unique characteristics (mostly thanks to the telegraph system) are nothing out of the ordinary. They follow the usual archetypes, with ranged DPS, melee DPS/tank, stealth and support/healer classes.

Each class, however, has its own resource, power cores and focus for the Medic, while the Esper uses psy points. These resources differ from the traditional mana system in the fact that they are only used by certain skills, while others replenish them. Moreover, coupled with the resource system, each class has a specific skill assigned to it as an integral part of gameplay. Triggered through the R button, this skill can be a damage buff for Spellslinger, or an instant regen for the Medic.

Here is a small presentation of the classes of WildStar to assist you in your choice.

Warrior
Melee class par excellence, the warrior is outstanding in both DPS and tanking. Their heavy armor allow them to absorb a lot of damage, but at the expense of making them less mobile than others. This further hinders them due to the fact that they focus on melee damage, greatly exposing them to the dangers enemy telegrams.

On their forearms, warriors also possess a small cannon that can shoot the enemies, stun them or draw them closer, making it the bane of squishy ranged opponents. This, along with the fact that they have a nice range of powerful melee attacks with effects like spell interrupts, stuns and knockdowns, makes the warrior quite balanced.

Stalker
The Stalker is, as you can guess, a class that depends on its stealth, agility and, lets say it, cheap tricks to defeat their opponents. Even more so in WildStar where they can become invisible whenever they wish to, even during fights.

As a melee class, the armor of Stalkers offers them an average protection from damages, making them a decent tank, although still under-performing compared to the damage absorption of  warriors.

The do, however, have different means to compensate this lack, invisibility being one. They are also able to dodge attacks, reflect damages, and use self-heal and life-stealing skills.

Engineer
In WildStar, the engineer is a class with a high-powered armor and a huge assault rifle, allowing them to dish out a fill DPS course through both medium range/melee skills, or to tank. Ironman, basically.

Moreover, both for tanking and DPS gameplays, the Engineer is accompanied by bots of its creation. Cute creatures with a complex AI that will support players and destroy their enemies.

Esper
If their is a class that fits the traditional mage archetype, it would be the Esper. A telekinetic psychopath version of the mage, however. They inflict powerful lethal visions on their enemies using the circular blade they hold on their backs.

The Esper is an excellent ranged DPS, able to bite a huge chunk out of their opponents' health before they even get close, possessing extremely powerful spell-based combos, and excellent crowd control. The backlash is that their light armor and fixed spells make them vulnerable. A glass cannon in short.

Espers can also support their allies through their healing spells, which oscillate between the AoE and focus skills, all with gorgeous shimmering colors.

Medic
Healer by default, the Medic is accompanied by two resonators that propagate waves able to heal allies and damage enemies. Indeed, despite its name, the medic possesses powerful melee and ranged skills, making it a quite viable class.

Players can choose between a damage or support build, although it is not impossible to be a good DPS Medic while also providing higher than average heals.

Spellsinger
Put simply, the Spellsingers are the space cowboys of WildStar. With powerful spells that make use of their two guns, they are able to shoot their enemies endlessly, heal allies, and even teleport in seconds to take shelter.

Very effective remotely, and highly mobile, the Spellsinger is a very versatile class, and probably one that will require the most skill to be mastered. Its spells with various effects like slowdowns allow it to be the best kiting class the game. The slightest error could, however, spell their death due to how light their armor is.
